New Congress prepares to challenge Bush
In Washington, the new Class of 2007 will be sworn in at the Capitol, and for the first time in more than a decade the Democrats will be in control of both houses of Congress.
It is a major shift in power on Capitol Hill that could now challenge the authority of the White House.
As the 110th Congress prepared to take the oath of office, President George W Bush made an appeal for congressional unity.
"We've all been entrusted with public office at a momentous time in our nation's history and together we have important things to do," President Bush said from the Rose Garden on Wednesday morning.
"It is time to set aside politics and focus on the future," he added.
DEMOCRATIC PRIORITIES
Minimum wage/ Does this include wages for illegals or are we just going to shoot more citizens out of the job market?
Stem cell research/ BEST OF LUCK! I really hope they can get this one done!!
Energy/ Should be interesting the position they take on this one
Student loans/ MAYBE when they quit giving $32 million for football coaches they will give students relief
9/11 Commission recommendations/ Will there be a change? Should prove interesting
Ethics of Congress/ LMAO!!! Ethics in Congress? That's like finding a virgin working in a whorehouse....

There are alot of good issues on the plate but I'm really hoping that they go after the stem cell research. I think at this point that he house and senate could actually bypass a presidential veto. We'll see........

Actually, if history repeats itself, the dynamic is set for progress when the power is balanced like it is now. We haven't done jack in the last forty years beyond cell phones and the internet. If we want to survive, we need to shake our asses into the future just as fast as we can get there. Stem cell research is the future.

Ok you have to admit those are some damn good ideas....
Lets tell it like it is!!!
In their first 100 hours of control on Capitol Hill, the chief Democratic goal appeared to be to make good on Ms Pelosi's pledge that this will be "the most honest, ethical, and open Congress in history".
A new raft of ethics proposals - a conscious attempt to do away with the climate of corruption that surrounded their Republican rivals during November's elections - stood out among the six bills that will be tabled over the coming days.
The rules, which go beyond earlier Democratic proposals, forbid outright the use of corporate jets by politicians and impose further restrictions on gifts and travel paid for companies and other outside interests.
The proposal also suggests considering the establishment of an independent panel to monitor the behaviour of Congress, a move previously resisted by both parties.
Many of the proposals, particularly those aimed at gifts and travel expenses, appear aimed at correcting abuses performed by Jack Abramoff, the former Republican lobbyist sentenced to five years and ten months imprisonment for bribery and fraud last year, and Tom DeLay, the former Republican House Majority Leader.
Damn straight Git r done!
