I'l start by saying I have some veg experience, well more like an example of how not to grow, lol. But I've never made it to a month without having to ditch it for various reasons, and they were hastily set up with little improvement from there.
This time however the moons have aligned for me and things are going great so I'll lead you through my set up and hopefully soon I can get you all some pics.
I had an old Dryer that I gutted from the past and painted flat white which I used the last few times. For some reason I saved the drum and I'm so glad I did because now that I'm better educated it makes the perfect round veg/clone box so no shadowy corners wasting light.
How I made it(hope you have a good imagination)
I had an air conditioner housing about a foot tall with no top and missing one side(basically a vented empty steel box). Anyways my drum balanced perfectly and stabily on top.
Imagine looking into the dryer your use, that opening at the door is the bottom of my veg box that is sitting on the open top of the airconditioning housing. This hole is where my exhuast is.
We did so renoing around the house and I salvaged the fan from the bathroom and rigged it to work for me. But the opening at the dryer bottom was to big so I grabbd a white christmas tree stand and cut it to sit nicely just inside the dryer door hole. Then I put a screen on top and placed my then clones on the screen.
I then hung my 400 watt MH bulb from the floor rafters(it's in the basement) on a chain to raise and lower it.
We are still adjusting and working out kinks though, hopefully I can figure out a nice way to enclose it so as not to waste so much light and maintain the temp, which is aound 78, our humidity however is at 25% most of the day and only at night raises to 38% when the lights are off but the heater is on (to keep it at about 68, we're working on that), I've put dishes of water in and mist but our ventilation keeps the dry winter air moving through there real good keeping the temp down but sucking the moisture out. I think soon we need a humidifier.
My plants
On the 15th a buddy droped by very unexpectedly with what he told use were 8 northern lights and 2 Afghani just rooted clones. He brought them in a cardboard box and they were only in little rock wool cubes with roots exposed. We had notheing not even soil so we misted them(this will come up later) and put them in the closet under the bulb. It took us 2 days to get sunsinemix and the temp raised to over 90,but we got them out of there without any wilting and only a little browning on the tips of the lower leaves.
So we set up out dryer and stuck them in. I noticed these little yellow spots on some of the leavesthat weren't there before.Being in experienced I thought for some reason that the 2days in the hot closet and misting left droplet of water on the leaves which magnified the heat and burnt them(we were so rushed and they were a little neglected those first few days). Anyways buddy comes over and introduces me to the spidermites sucking on my babys. So I ran out and picked up some doktor doom botanics insecticide. I've been giving it doeses of that and spraying with soap and the mites are non-existent so far. and now I I educated myseklf about mites and plan to take alot more precautions and care for my plants.
I also started advanced nutrients grow, micro, and bloom. I got a catalogue with that and have been following the instructions. I transplanted them last weekend, during which I pitched out 1 northern that was pretty much gone(never rooted well) and found that another northern was actually an afghani. I really should have watered them that morning but wanted to wait till I transplanted them. So they were about 5 inches and in little yogurt cups. I would go downstairs grab a plant bring it up transplant it and bring it back down to get the net plant. When I got plant #3 they were all fine, but when I went back for plant #4 the ones left in yogurt cups were wilting before my eyes from drought! I hauled ass and the next day they recovered nicely and exploded form there. My large afghani's and Northerns are up to 10" bussy, and have fan leaves almost the size of my hand(I'm a chick I have little hands, but I'm still excited). The smaller ones are at about 7-8". They are looking really healthy and dark green and I can get a few clones from a few plants but want to wait a bit.
I have on Afghani that is a little stunted and I don't really want clones from for that reason, but it has 2 good branches. I haven't had any experience with clones so I think soo I'll take one from it and fool around a bit since it probably won't produce well anyways. That way once the ther plants are ready with clones I'll be a little more prepared.
I want to rotate crops but am only allowed 8 plants, Dh and I agreed so I have alot to figure out and hope to keep you updated. GTG

I'm working on finding some way to get photos, but need someone to get a camera off of.
Update on the grow
Yesterday I noticed calyxs(sp) and all but one afghani, my stunted one. I guess names will help more when I have pictures but I call this one Petti, she's my smallest at 6" compared to my largest which are peeking out the top of the drum. Petti was one of my stronger clones that was least effected my the spider mites. Early on she had two branches one about and inche behind the other, I think this is why she is half the size, because she has two main stalks. I really should weed her out but since this is my first grow and her smaller branch is about five inchs and pretty leafy I figured I'll experiment with some cloning right away. That way she might just shoot up after that, and if she doesn't or the clone doesn't work out no big loss.
Jaz is my largest Afghani the one peeking over the top, she's got about 3 good clone sites that need about an inch more before I take them, but I don't want to fuck these ones up because they should be great plants like Jaz so I'm being very patient.
My last Afghani is affectionatly called Mrs. Bin Laden she's the Afghani that was hiding out as a northern, Shes just a little behind Jaz and doing just as great.
Foxy is my smallest northern at about 7 inches and was the only other plant not nailed by mites, which is so weird since the ones that got mites the worst was Jaz and Mrs. Bin Laden, and the two that had the least mites were the two most stunted. I've kept everything the same for all the plants including transplanting and mite treatments. It's after the transplant that the others took off and these ones didn't so maybe my answer is there but if I sit and analyze it all this will be a super long post. Anyways Foxy will be eliminated soon since she's small and has itty bitty brances.
She is female, but me and DH agreed that I can have a max of 8 mature plants at any time, hopefully he'll be a little lax about a few extra clones. I want atleast one clone of each plant so I can know their history and know which ones I want to keep and which strains aren't as productive. So I see some negotiating coming up.
Bella is my huge bushy northern. She's ready to be cloned but I'm not sure about her yet, she's doing great but is a little different. She has the northern leaves, but while the others are a dark healthy almost shiny green, she is about two shades lighter and while the veins in her leaves are uniform there are about half as many other then that she's just as happy looking as the rest of the northerns and doing just a little better, so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
The other northerns are donig just fine, but they are pretty much all the same, so I'm suspecting they my have all come from the same mother and that could be why Bella looks so different.
With my plants growing out of the drum there is alot of work and planning going on downstairs. First off I made one of those DIY odor nutralizers just without the crystals. By the next morning not only could I not smell anything from the basement but the dog shit on the floor upsdtairs in the kitchen and while cleaning it I could barely catch a whiff. so I think it's working great. I could use a few more holes in the bucket to increase airflow. I just ran flexible ducting from the exhaust fan in the bottom. So now the temp is up to 82, but with the decreased airflow the humidity is up to 30% from 25%.
I also did a precautionary spray for mites last night since I don't need them popping up now.
I am also building a cab in the corner of the basement that is 53"x33"x6', and picking up a 400w HPS ballast bulb and reflector for about $200(supporting the new grow shop 4 blocks away). So I'll be ready come flower time if I don't get the dryer finished up soon enough.
Stage two of the dryer is what I should really be working on. I have the outside housing of the dryer I got the drum from, it's what I used before but with a complicate self distructive set up I won't even bother explaining. Now I have simplified it and have built off the drum concept with a few changes. The dryer itself is 2'x2'x2.5'. it has the door which is the same size as the exhaust opening on the drum so it it just a matter of mounting the fan on the wall of the dryer this time. The back is removeable providing me access and I'll just pull the top off so that the light can hang from above. Since this will be a larger veg room I'm not to concerned about light proofing it, the new flower room will be though, that in itself is a work in process. so with the vegging plants in the stage 2 dryer they can grow to 1.5' and I can set up some cfls for the drum just to get clones started.
On top of all this by the end of today or tommorrow I need to mix up a new batch of nutrients, and decidewhether to start increasing my P to prepare for blooming or the keep the same system I have going now which theplants seem to be doing pretty good on, plus I don't really want the shock them now. That reminds me it's time for a flush.
well peace out, hope to have pics soon:jointsmile:

Thank you very much for the offer. I'm in Manitoba actually so it would be a bit long of a trip. I've been pretty busy setting up today though and I think my MIL may let me borrow hers to take pictures of our daughter. I know my set up sounds off the wall doesn't it? We're pretty much broke most of the time just like every one else so I like to use what we have if I can. It may not be perfect but it's better then our once 90 degree closet that my DH had going when we first met. lol we didn't even get 4 grams off 3 plants and it wasn't that great, but we knew next to nothing then, it was years ago.

Ok I now know I have a Phosphate deficiency. All the plants I've ever seen had some purple on the stems, I thought it was normal, turns out(as you most likely already know) it's not normal. I'm glad I figured this out now so I didn't have to wait for another feed. I found mite eggs on two of my smaller NL, and I'm already over my limit of 8 and want to start playing with clones soon so I think we will say goodbye tonight:( , because all the other leaves are clear of mites and I don't want to risk reintroducing them.

A light justwent off in my head about why Bella is doing so much better. The leaves on my other plants are turning down very slightly on the tips, but Bella's aren't, But she is a little purple, she must be dealing with the P deficiency better then the othe NL, so much makes sense now I can hardly keep myself from ferting them, but if I do they'll be overwatered and stressed, plus I have to flush so hopefully tommorrow they'll be dry enough. I'm so happy.

Here's a link to some pics, my pics are too big to thumbnail and I don't know how to shrink them. so I'll work through them with you, but backwards because I fucked up.
001(last one) Is my dryer set up with the odor nutralizer attahed to the exhaust fan at the bottom.
002 is a better pic of the tree stand and exhaust fan underneath.
003 is an inside shot of my grow op, right in the middle is the fan and stand, when the plants were smaller I had a screen overtop to sit the plants on but now they are to heavy, so we are moving up to the stage two of the dryer
004 the dark purple is Jaz, and the bright purple is Mrs. Bin Laden
005 Bella is the read one in the middle, and one of my unnamed ones is the orange(see the color difference? Orange is suffering from a little P deficiency) Orange got Fimmed
006 The middle one is foxy and the other two are unnamed(also P deficency for those two), all 3 got FIMmed.
007 is Petti next to her big sis Jaz. I FIMmed both Pettis tops today.
008 is a shot of one of Jazs leaves after flushing and feeding today we had a few blotches on a leaf the are dark green and crispy, also the very tips(less the mm) and most leaves either yellowed or went strait to brown, but it hasn't progressed at all. I dilluted my nutes today but at the same time increased my P to make up for the deficency so that could be it.
009 is one of my last leaves to heal and regenerate after the spider mites almost all other leaves hav healed and many were not quite so bad as that but still pretty patchy, but it's been almost two weeks since.
I flushed today and fed then FIMmed al the plants that weren't going to be cloned(only one from each of the other three) but I'll FIM them after. The clones I'm taking are either really shaded or right at the bottom, so I figured it would be a good chance to experiment a little. Anyways Thanks KP I read your post in my other post and it made me feel a little more prepared.
Let me know what you think guys I'll try to get the pics up here tommorrow and fill you in again. but I'll be kicking around here for a little bit.;)

Hey Chrissy,
That is a cool setup you have. I wondered if that odour neutraliser would work without the crystals because I couldn't find them anywhere, so maybe I'll try it without if I end up needing one.
I think your girls look really good too! Jaz is a very nice plant. I've got some red stems as well but I'm not 100% sure if it's P or something else, but I'll be watching here anyway to see what happens.

I think the crystals are only nessesary if you have high humidity. The odor nutalzer works great with out them. I need to cut a few more holes for better airflow though so I don't hve it hooked up all the time. But if my Bathroom upstairs is stinky(that's where we smoke becauseof the baby) I hook it up and within 15 minutes the whole house smells fresh since the furnace i down stairs. I used extra strength febreeze;)

Someone mentioned that my plants look a little stretched, and I think that they are just a little. I once turned 8 femals into males because I couldn't keep the temp down so I use my temp to judge my height. Temp is at 80.9, humidity is at 30% and the 400w MH is 12' from the highest and 18" from the shortest(Petti). The next shortest 3 are at 15". Think I should lower it?
I'm also curious(hint hint KP) when I might be able to notice if my FIMing worked? How long to they resprout?
And the last question I know depends on whether I fixed the problem or not, but after increasing the P how long will it take for the purple to fade? How/when do I know if I need to increase it more? I don't want t increase it the net feed because I think it is still lacking when really it's just recovering and burn it. I don't even know how bad the deficiency was, I could post some pics of the stems and leaves if that would help.
Thanks in Advance.

OK I lower my light 3" and the temp is up to 82. I also took three clones today from Jaz, Mrs. Bin Laden, and Bella, so we will see how that goes, afterwards I FIMed them too. I tied a few branchs that were totally shaded by larger leaves. Right now the clones are in my Stage 2 dryer. Soon I HAVE to switch the clones with the plants. So I'm going to take the fan out of the bottom of the drum and install it in the circular hole in the front of the stage 2, I'll put the back on the stage 2 and hang the MH from above That should give them a little more room . In the drum I'll mount the flourescent and cover the hole in the bottom with a screen for passive airflow so I can try and increase the humidity. The wall for the flowering room should be going up this week and I should finish that off soon, I still need to figure out how to hang mylar for the 4th wall and still keep it lighproof while not having it airtight. The purple seems to be fading a bit from the main stems but not the leaf stems yets

My clones are wilting:mad: But I was warned that clones don't take well in soil, I'll have to see how they are tommorrow. I think I'll pick up some rockwool either way.

Man am I happy today. Not only did I get my new 400w hps setup and other stuff that I couldn't pick up last night because there were closed for an emergency(I was so bummed), But I also got Stage 2 of the dryer up and running! Now they aren't as crowded and shaded so they should stretch a little less. Check out the new pics
http://s119.photobucket.com/albums/o124/chronicchrissy/?start=all
So now that the plants are out of the drum I also got the cloning chamber up and running too! So now armed with rockwool I get to try cloning again tommorrow properly this time.
Now I just have to finish the flowering room, and with the dryer moved a few feet over I have lots of space to work. I have a plan too...
Brainstorming at this point...
I got 5gl pots today to transplant them into today. I only got 4 for the bigger plants. Then I relized that they would cause a major height difference to deal with, and once they are in bigger pots they will take off again and explode in growth. Which is what I want them to do but then they will quickly out grow the dryer and take over the flower room. So then I was thinking of transplanting right before I placed the plants in the flowering room, hopefully 2 weeks apart, but in the mean time they need room for the roots to grow and expand, so I need to transplant them into a slightly smaller maybe 3 gl container. OK I need to go check to see how many pots I can fit in there....
I have so majkor brainstorming to do about trasplanting(Which I want to keep to a minimal, but still want to control size) and flowering all these plants.
Check it out I'll be back after I:rasta: and think a little.

I think maybe I should use the 3 gl ones, that way I can fit 5 in the veg room to start and put Jaz and Mrs. Bin Laden to flower first right after I see if these clones take. Then in 2-3 weeks I'll throw in the 2 larger Northerns, after hopefully getting a few clones from each. Then I figure 2-3 for weeks should bring the stunted ones, Foxy(NL) and Petti(Afghani) up to par and ready to be thrown in once I pull the Afghanis out. That leaves Bella. This it the plant that I hope and prey will turn out to be my best bud. She was so easy to grow, was healthy, resisted mites, bounced back from drought, and had not deficiencies, and didn't get fried by nutes even just a little. So I planto take as many as 8-9 clones and if she turns out good I'll ditch therest of the clones and just grow her. By then my buddy should be by with a whole new fresh batch to grow.(He comes yearly with babies even though we aren't prepared, but now we are and I havea never ending replenishing supply without fucking with huge mothers. If only real life ran so smoothly.
Oh KP how do you like the new dryer chambers? It all the same dryer wewere going to chuck.

The new setup looks like it'll work pretty well. I like the cloning chamber. The whole dryer idea is just fucking cool!
That's too bad your clones in soil didn't work out. I tried a couple of those with branches I was pruning anyway and maybe I didn't wait long enough but they didn't work out either. Plus I didn't have anything to help them take root, just cut them and planted them. :) The ones we have in rockwool right now seem to be doing alright now that they're not waterlogged.
I don't know how long it takes for the red stems to clear up. Do you see any changes yet?

It's slowly clearing very slowly. My husband looks and doesn't see a difference but he doesn't know them as well as I do. So yeah the purple is fading and the dark/blueish tint on the leaves is slowly fading from the stem out.

OK alot is going on lately. I'm trying super hard to get this flower room togather. I have the frame up, and the plastic(Visqueen I think it's called) cut. My ballast is connected to the bulb and that is hooking up to the reflector once we find screws the right size(there's just so many to sort through). I need to figure out exacly where to hang my light before I put up the plastic, then I need to figure out where to place the air intake tubes and cut the plactic for that and the fan before I put the plastic up. Then last would be the duct taping of the seams and building of the lightproof curtain. I cant believe this only cost me 15$. So by the end of tommorrow hopefully I should have a new 50"x50"x76" flowering room. I need to flush and transplant so I figured once I get the hps hung even if the room isn't done I can put the 2 extra plants in there, on their same 18/6 cycle, and while I'm working in there I can move them back to the stage 2 with the other plants. My Afghanis are over a foot(Haven't had time to measure, just basic maitinance till I get this all done) and they are only in 6" pots :(
I took clones yesterday again though. This time I got some rockwool and a proper tray(cut vents in the top). They are at 80 degrees, 90% humidity, and haven't gone limp yet!
Picture will be coming soon of the building of the room, my new clones, and an update on the plants before and after transplant, So keep coming by.
Oh the purpling, It faded a little on the ones affected but where you can really see it is the new growth, There is still a little but I don't want to stress them with so much going on, so I'll work back up after the flush with them in new pots.
Peace

Looking good! I still can't get over the dryer thing, and think it's a wonderful idea! When I move to the new apt, Ima start looking for a tossed washer or dryer to salvage the tub and emulate your setup. Trés cool on the AC thing. I'm imagining that the AC is modded with a tray of activated charcoal as a scrubber? Or simply fan?

I'm imagining that the AC is modded with a tray of activated charcoal as a scrubber? Or simply fan?
?????
The AC Is just a stand to hold the drum up, since with the fan/funnel it couldn't sit right on the ground in the first stage. Now as a cloning chamber I just point the little heater on the floor into the a/c and it traps the heat to run it up through the hole in the drum where the fan was, thus heating my clone tray. Oh Yay! All my clones are still alive(Happy Dance), last time they died with in a day.
To me the Afghanis look a little stretched but that could be the strain. Then the Northerns (except for Casey) look stunted and short, but they are healthy and after a few fuck ups happy. I'm starting to really like Casey though, I'm almost temped to ditch the rest of the clones after the mothers flower and just have a room of Caseys but then again I have no Idea what she'll smoke like. So I think I'll take a handfull of clones and pick the best one to turn into a mother. Sorry I ran away brainstorming.

Well quick up date...
Jaz, Mrs.Bin Laden, and Bella are up to 18", petti isn't far behind. The Northerns are lst'ed and busing out great.I haven't been able to get them into the flower room yet because there is a sight heat problem that should be fixed by another fan in the room but it has been a very heckic week and family comes first. But I will go shopping today and pick up a few things. Then clone again tommorrow and into the flower room this weekend.

OK so I fed them all today, re lst'ed, and took a clone from each plant. The two northern clones from last friday are rooted and the Afghanis shouldn't be far behind. So now there are 13 in there now.
My flower room is finished. I got a new tower fan last night and have the room going through a dry run right now, and it is sitting at 81 degrees 12" above where the plants will be. It is completely lightproof except for the fan but since the dryer is on the other side of the basement itr's pitch black in there so long as I remember to turn off the overhead lights. I climbed in there with duct tape to seal off leaks and when I dropped the door behind me I got lost in the dark, lol.
So tommorrow the 4 afghanis go in the room, and a week or two later I want to throw the northerns in there(I want some major bud from those babies because they make killer weed(it's what we currently buy off buddy who gave us the plants.
Hopefully by then The clones are rooted and then I can go back to stage one dryer and start experimenting with bonsi(sp?) mother plants.
I'm so excited.:yippee:

Thanks for the visit Canuck, eh.
Already done. I did a dry run of the flower room yesterday and altered a few things. They temp is around 84, a little high but I'm going to fix up a vinigar baking soda drip, or if I can afford the extra cash I'll get a yeast culture going but appaprently that stinks. So it will make up for the temps and hopefully increase my yeild a little. I couldn't wait to get my ladies in there, after I transplanted them Jaz and Mrs. Bin Laden didn't even fit in the room, so I took the back off and put them as close to the light as possible, they perked right up now that they are in their new room.
so now I get to shut dwn the MH bulb and wait for more of my clones to take, then it is back to the stage 1 veg dryer drum till we out grow that. I figure that if these clones grow too quick before I get this harvest out, I'll throw as many of them in the spaces in that grow room and flip the MH bulb over to 12/12 in the dryer and have 2 flower chambers going. Then as I move plants out of the flower room I'll move them out of the dryer into the free space. I'll just stick my mothers under the flouro for a bit and pick a few more up. But I'm getting a little ahead of myself.
Right now I'm re lst'ing every day on my plants because they are tolerating it and I'm opening up light to the little branchs growing off the branches(not sure what to call those) and the plants are working on filling out. I love working on my northerns because I can twist the main stem more but that's just because I'm using fishing line and don't want to hurt them. But today I am all caught up so I think today is a major tie down day as the plants adjust I'll tighen it up a little to try and get those northerns a little shorter and better spread out.
LOL I'm smoking one of my babies mommas, buddy stopped by last night with some northern lights. I asked him and it turns out I've never had Afghani, at least not from him. So I'm very curious to find out what they smoke like. I think After harvest and curing I'll figure out how many of each I want to gro. Even if I pick one or the other I'll keep an extra bonsei mom so there are two of the ones I'm currently not growing, just in case.
But after a wake-n-bake and with a squirmy baby in my arms it's breakfast time. I pop in all the time if you wanna visit.

My first Afghani clone has a root starting thats 3 out of 5 in 7 days. I finished tieing all my plants The afghanis are still a bit taller. I was able to lower the light and the temp is 80-81. Now I'm clening up the basement and working on getting everything ready for the new clones.

I forgot to tell you guys abut what happened after FIMming all my plants a few weeks ago. Well I sat back and waited patiently to see if I would get two colas or 3+. So I waited and waited and waited and all I got is a few fan leaves with a bad hair cut. There is even one where because I cut patially through and it was folded the blades themselves are cut but the veins to the blades are intact allowing the tip of the blade to thrive. It looks like bugs got at it. Anyways I pulled one stalk to hard while LSTing and kinked a main stalk. LOL but I'm off to:bonghit: see you soon I hope.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit...
Well I hurt Casey today and have added a new clone as a result. I was tieing the top of her main stem a little more with a new tie. I didn't notice that one of her other ties was cutting ever so lightly. Well if that cut wouldn't have been there I would have been great but I put a little tension on the line and "zip" down falls her top 3 inches. I gasped and ran for the rock wool cubes. I primed it, sliced off a few extra laves, gel, and into the cube. I hope I acted quick enough. Casey should be fine, she has a nice branch right ther so I hope it takes over the main stock. Actually with her shape right now it might be a good thing. I'm just worried about the shock since they just started flower cycle officially today.
On a better note I'm getting the canopy pretty level. Just 2 more plants to pull into line then it's just maintiance from there. I Tie the Afghanis becasue they are so high, and because I can get little brances growing off the brances I pull horizontally. The northerns I tie because the leaves are so broad that they block out te branchs beneath them, but once you shead some light on those branchs they bush out nicely.
I wish I still had the camera, but it may be a few weeks before I get it back, by then there should be lots of changes.
I also threw some baking soda and vinegar drip in there and I'm trying out plain old active yeast and sugar water to see what happens. I only plan on having the baking soda and vinegar go at certain times for an hour or so, and just leaving the yeast in there all the time and capping it at night if it works out. But we'll see.
I also picked up molasses yeasterday(can you tell it was grocery day?), so I'll be adding that in my next feed of just water. Then after that I think I'll pick up some bigbud or something. I think I might have a little lock out happening because of pH issues so I'm am going back to the basics because I'm tired of flushing everytime I water because I'm paranoid. There is no burn and they aren't stunted but I think they could be growing a little faster so now I get to experiment and have fun.
With the stage 2 dryer being open I didn't have such a controled enviroment and I was just learning the basics as I went. I figure I should master on thing before moving on to the next upgrade that way it is easier to identify the problems and make the adjustments. Now that I have a few things under my belt I get to get my feet a little wet with getting a little more advanced. I don't just want to grow alot of weed, I want to grow weed well and make the most of every plant.
It's amazing how much my high school chemistry and physics help me with this, Makes me glad I graduated a stoned honor roll student, lol.
But anyways I have things to check and monitor, oh yeah another afghani clone sprouted a root that's 4 for 5! Thanks for popping in I'm here all the time.

I had good results with yeast & sugar. Use about 1-2 cups of sugar for 2 litres (1/2 gallon) of water and a heaping tsp of yeast. Well, that seemed to work best for me anyway.
legalizedahurb posted a cool idea in my thread, but I never got a tube to try it out. I have been slacking on the CO2 recently.
People prune their girls up to 2 weeks into flower so I'm sure Casey'll recover just fine. If it were weeks into flower then I might worry about it a little more. The same thing turned one of TheGreenFog's girls hermie. :(

You're only a few days behind me. I just picked up some big bud, sensi mg/cal mix, and carboload, So I'll do my first flower water as just pH water and start a whole new recipe. I'm glad you got your baby back. Today I was thinking of what I would do if I ever had to ditch my babies quick. I finally decided that 1 I woiuld try and find some one here to take them 2 Creat a thread giving them to anyone here if they could pick up promtly 3 Ditch the evidence. If they have to go they have to go quick. But why focus on the what ifs.
I've noticed the differnce with the CO2, my plants look much happier with a healthy shine. I am noticing some lime green leaves popping out and sticking around, so I'm hoping my Ph water will clear out any possibly nute lockout, I really don't want to flush again but maybe I should, What do you think? I could flush but I wouldn't want to feed after because every time I do my ph drops the next time, I'm assuming due to build up.
Any Ideas guys? I'm using 1/3 stregth advanced nutrients three part nutes after flushing.

i seriously doubt you have a buildup prob at this point, and lime green leaves could just mean accelerated new growth. are they growing faster, more boomy now?
my blueberrys will throw up yellowish looking new shoots (the self topper, anyway) and in a day or two, they turn a deep dark lush green/blue.
keep it simple, sometimes you can give them too much care...

I asked MIL today about the camera and I should have it by this weekend. I'm a little worried my 400w hps might not be able to cover all 7 plants. I have the temp under control so I want to get the light as low as possible but the batwing shade and low height seem to shade the side plants a little more. I'm thinking of bending the shade out a little more or removing it all togather but then the wasted light above... I don't know. I think I'll go out and pick up 3-4 2'-3' flourescents next payday and mount them on the walls. I took three of the rooted clones and carefully removed them from the rockwool today and threw them in pots and gave them a very light feed, the new leaves were growing yellow.
Thanks for the visit your qusetions and comments are always carefully considered and thought over. But I have a crying babe cutting her third tooth in a week and a half, don't know when I'll be back, soon I hope.

I think I screwed myself a little by listening to my husband and buddy. They said I should throw all the plants into flower at once, so silly me did. I wanted to start with 2 plants and add two more each 2 weeks to keep it pretty constant and to give each plant what it needs and let the little ones catch up.
!!!OK the plants have only been in flower light 3-4 days what could happen if I pulled the 3 northerns and put them back under the MH 18/6. Could they hermi on me, they are definate females in preflower for a few weeks. I don't want to waste the potential yeild by having too many under the light. Plus I would real like more time to tie the northerns and get a few more branches pulled out from under a chance to catch up, plus the are short and I don't see them becoming a height issue anytime soon. I would take anyones opinions right now or ideas to bounce inside my head.

I hear you kp. I waited a little to seriously tie them down and try to even them out, but they keep getting bushier(I know a good thing) and I'm worried they'll shade eachother, that and those Afghanis are leaving the northerns in the dust for height. I'll have to get you pics soon to show you how much I've trained them so far. I am planing on getting some flourescents to mount along the walls(tube not compact) with my next paycheck(and last since I quit). So hopefully I can mount them in there as stressless as possible. Don't worry I won't change them, just a lapse in rational thinking.

I didn't even notice Pepper Cat there till you pointed her out. The cats like to curl up under the drum because that is where the heater is aimed . Oh and all the plants are tied down and the under branches pulled out to reach more light. If they weren't tied theyed be over 2 feet by now.
Well I went to water today and noticed that the bottom few leaves on Jaz and Mrs. Bin Laden were a little speckeled with whay I thought was perlite. Turns out the mites are back, but only on those two. So I washed the whole flower room down with bleach and water and put everyone back but the two infected plants. I put those two in the stage two dryer with the MH bulb. But before that I wanted to spray the underside and try to knock as many of those fuckers off till I can spray with Dr. doom at lights out tonight. So while I'm spraying I knock a line and it was Casey all over again, the top of Jaz falls right off. I'm mad it happened but maybe this unfortunate event will end up helping me control their height a little better. The only problem now is that the Clone chamber is right next to the stage 2 dryer and they are on different light cycles, so I have 4.5 hours to figure out how to light proof one, probably the clone chamber since that is the only sorce of light and easier to contain without ventilation problems.
Oh and the boot camp thing. I was sent off to military training camps 2 years in a row when I was 13 and 14, so we have a little more to talk about now. One thing thought is that you have no chance for dreads once your in boot camp so if your hair is that important you have to figure out something to do with it. JUST DON"T QUIT SCHOOL! get it done and over with as quick as possible as well as you can, there is no point wasting time retaking courses. I have running around to do but I'll be back soon.

The only thing with yarn is I find it hard to untie to adjust. I have this rubber string in mind with a little stretch to it so that it's easy to untie, won't cut, and gives a little. but that has to wait for my last payday. As for my light problem I think I'll spray them tonight then wrap in saran wrap(very lightly) and let them sleep in the flower room in there own corner then move them back under the MH bulb tommorrow. Most of the affected leaves were the damaged one from before or bottom sucker branches so the really sad weak ones were pinched and the bottom of the plants will be sprayed since it's only the bottom 4", I'm lucky I caught it this soon.
kp it seem like this could be an evenly matched battle between the two of us, I look forward to the challenge.:p

do you move your plants positions daily??
doing this alone helps keep them all the same height and LST'ing the rest will give you a nice even canopy.

Chronic Chrissy
01-26-2007, 03:04 AM
I turn them daily and rotate them according to height. The shortest go right under the light where it is most intense, and the taller ones go to the sides to give the short ones a chance to catch up, as the height proportions change I flip the plants around. Jaz and Mrs. BL are lsted everday just a little more. the others are level so I'm just maintaining height with them at this point.

I'VE HAD IT! OMG I should have learnt the first time but of course I figure I can make it work. So I took off Bella's top the same way I took off Casey's and Jaz's tops! So I've cut all iffy lines and now useless lines. I kept the tops of Jaz and Mrs. BL tied gentally but will not me tightning them. I figure I'll just tie what I absolutly have to and raise the lower plants to the light. On another note my second batch of clones is starting to root. The only thing is that the only clones that are taking are the northerns, the one Afghan that started taking stopped at little root nubs and is very slow going. So now my goal is to get a few afghanis rooted and I refuse to lose those tops! especially because 2 are Afghanis. Anyways I sprayed for mites last night threw them in white garbage bags and put them back in the flower room to sleep, so I can keep the same light cycle. Then this morning went to move them back and it occured to me that the needed to breath and I could have killed them but the bag was plenty big and they were fine.
QUESTION OF THE DAY
When do you let the clones go if they haven't rooted yet? To some strains take longerto root than others? And if the clone takes well will clones taken from it root well too? And what's the shortest top of a plant that can root, since thestem is so think(keep in mind Casey, Jaz And Bella)?
eta I'll move to yarn when I get some soon

Hey guys, thanks for pooping in. I know you're there even if you don't want to speak up.
Good news today, The 2 Afghanis from my first batch of clones have roots! So all of my first clones rooted! And Caseys top is showing a little nub!
So that means with my cloning method Northerns take 1 week to get roots and Afghanis take 2 weeks. So that should give my Northerns a little head start before the Afghanis take off in height.. Now I gotta wait one more week for the rest of my clones to take. In thats time Mrs. BL and Jaz should be out of the stage 2 dryer and I can switch them all over to the MH bulb. Then I want to pick the best clone of each plant and make mothers till I harvest this round. Then one or two mothers of each strain.
I figure next time I only want 5 plants in the flower room but we'll see since I'm estimating how much space these plants will take up. But then that means that I have to chop some clones but that gives me a chance to pick the best clones.
I hope you're all having a lovely day, It's cold here but the sun is shining right on my spot So I'm soaking up the rays and good karma to share with all of you.

Hey Canuck! Haven't seen you here is a while. I'm actually kinda happy the tops broke, now that the guilt has worn off. In two cases(Jaz and Bella) it helped with the height difference, amd with all of them the tops broke while the mainste was horizontal to encourage the branches to catch up so now It seems like I will have 4-5 main colas. Plus if the tops all root they will make wicked bonsai moms. So maybe this was just fates way of setting me up for the next few crops.

Well I've been moving Jaz and Mrs. BL back and forth at night, covering them with white garbage bags so that they keep the same light cycle and keep them in a lightproof area at night so I don't screw them up. Their doing ok. I checked today and removed a few old infested leaves under at the bottom where it's very hard to spray without soaking the plant. When I could I would just take a blade or two. I think they aren't as happy as they could be being covered every night, but I do not want to infect the other plants. So tonight is the second treatment, I think after that I won't cover them but I will move the other plants away so they are in no way touching, then tomorrow they will go back into the stage two dryer till their third and final treatment. At that time I think I will spray the whole flower room and mist all the plants just a a precaution, because I would rather deal with the mites now since they are early in flower.
Once they are out of there the stage two is being scrubbed and cleaned with bleach water, than sprayed with Doktor Doom. By then hopefully all my clones will have roots(there's only 5 left) then I can change back to the stage 1 dryer(the drum wiith fan) and slowly remove the humidity dome and hopefully start vegging.
Then I get to play with bonsia moms, and figure out how many plants I want for the flower chamber. I'm finding that with only 5 in the flower chamber the whole floor is shaded. I plan on picking up 4 2'flouros next weekend to mount vertically in the corners for side lighting about 1.5' off the ground for side lighting. Then I'll see how all the plants fit in there and decide how many to bloom at once.
As for bloom progress they are growing a little quicker, but there is no sign of bud yet, as to be expected. Since I put the yeast CO2 in the room I have noticed that the new leaves have a nice shine, and the older leaves are gaining a little luster. I moved the vinegar drip to the stage 2 with Jaz and Mrs. BL but Pepper Cat has some strange fasination with it and knocks it over all the time. Fucking cat knocked over my jug of clone water today all over my table soaked my papers and record and everything then! then knocked a pot of dirt into the puddle!
I know I should keep the animals away for various reasons but that's where the litter box is and with the dogs snacking on kitty litter(eeewwww!) there is nowhere else to put it.
Now That I'm done rambling I have one last thing to say. There is some confusion right now regaurding whether or not I have the strains of my plants are mixed up, I know one is Afghani and the Other Northern but some people have made comments saying I have them backwards so please if you know whch way is right please stop by my poll http://boards.cannabis.com/indoor-growing/100549-help-afghani-northern-lights.html
Thanks for the visit I alway appreciate your time and interest and I hope I haven't bored you yet. I'm always here so feel free to speak up or ask questions even if it's not about my thread I love to help and teach what I know.

Thanks for popping in. Lol back when we didn't have tv and I wasn't working I would get stoned while my roommate(now husband) was at work. I was originally trying to see if I could fix the damn thing because we were broke and had no washer. So I would wash our clothes in the bath tub then throw them in the dryer, without the dryer a load of laundry took like 3 days. Anyways, I started taking it apart and forgot I had to put it back togather, lol. It sat wasting space for 3 years and I wouldn't let him throw it out because I was convinced I could make it work. And sure enough I did make it work after many sad attepts. After being broke for all my life even having money now I hate to throw anything out, we fight about keeping junk all the time. Guess who usually wins.;)

I feed today for the first time with my 3 part nute system, carbo load, big bud, and cal/mg. I'm curiouse to see how much they'll take off now. As it is my little buds are growing(yeah), and with 7 plants it's quite crowed in there, next time I think I'll only put 5 in there. But I gtg. Peace.

Hey thanks for stopping by. What I call my Afghans(everyone says I have my Afghans and Northerns labeled backwards, but buddy is 1000%sure I have it right and he's the one who ot them for me) they smell like fresh moist plants, like when I worked in a greenhouse with my mom. The northerns smell faintly like pine. My Daughter is 6 months old and a little peanut. We have some weight issues right now, but they aren't serious. Congradulations on your little one, they really do change your life and way of thinking.
Oh and paul I've been thinking about yarn but with all the lines cut the plants are pretty close with eachother. Oh and I tried the magnifying glass with what my camera says is high sensitivity setting and still a blur, so I'll have to wait till the buds get bigger.

Updates
OK so I have 5 clones left to root that have a few days to a week be right on schedual. I figured that I would throw all the clones under the MH bulb. So I pulled the stage 2 dryer out of the corner, left the light hanging where it was, and moved the stage 1 dryer drum riht underneath. Everything was scrubbed down with bleach water, swept, and washed during the transition. I have the MH bulb about 24" above the dome, and the emp is at 81.5. I'm hoping this will boost the unrooted clones a little. If it does then as soon as they are in soil I'll start cracking the dome an inch a day. If they still take a little longer I have a cake dome and tray(thanks to MIL dropping of groceries, it was good cake) that's the perfect size to put both domes in the drum.

HOW I BUILT MY FLOWER ROOM
I forget who it was but I promised to post how I built my flower room with the(I love this) Panda Plasitc. So here we go...
1. The size. I chose the size of my grow room due to the space I had. I sacrificed ground space for a few inches of height due to plumbing above. If you look at my pictures You'll see the my room gets wider closer to the ground. I made the room as big as I could at the top then pulled the front out to slope it.
2 the frame. The frame started as a basic 2x4 rectangle. For the first side wall, for the width I used the measurement of the top of the room at the ceiling, and the hieght I went right up to the rafters. I stood up the frame and determined how far I wanted to pull out the front of the room to increase floor space. I used another 2x4 and cut and nailed it to the first at the angle I wanted.
I was fortunate enough to be able to use eisting back and right wall. If you don't have this then build another frame like the first for the second side. Then if I were you I would nail or screw another two 2x4's for the back. One across the bottom and one across the top of the back. Then for the front do the same thing, one across the topconnecting the two side frames and one across the bottom.
I was fortunate enough to be able to secure the frame to existing shelves rafters, and structures, you may have to find ways to stabilize your frame so it isn't so wobbly if it is free standing.
You should end up with a box with a slope. The slope in the front helps later when it comes to light proofing the door.
3. Ventilation. I used a $20 bathroom exhaust fan. To mount it i determined how high in the room I wanted it. Then in the existing first rectangular frame I added a 2x4 in the middle to hang the fan from.
4. Mounting the light. Right in the middle of the room on the ceiling I have a rafter. This is where I inserted a screw before I mounted the plastic so I knew where to place the hook.
5. At this point I started with the plastic. I cut sheets to fit the back, and side walls, as well as the ceiling and floor. I duct taped the floor down with the edge under the frame to help hold it down. I then used a staple gun to secure the top part of the room, pushing the srew where the light mounts through. Then I stapled up the sides, all from the inside.
The front is a little trickier because I needed a lightproof door. So I made three panels that overlapped by 2-3". One the front there are 3 panels now, 2 on either side, and one that falls over top as the door. I secured the two front side panels tight from the outside of the frame this time.
If you look at my pics there is a strip of duct tape on the edges(vertically) on these two side front peices. Before you staple this part put the ducttape on as strait as you can and fold it over the other side the pull and staple as tight as you can at the top and bottom.
Over top of that so that the door overlaps equally, staple that middle panel to the frme only at the top.
To open and close the door. I used a peice of rope and fed it through in between the two peices of plastic at the very top in the middle of the door. Then make a loop big enough so that you can roll up the door and slip the rope around under it. When the door is not rolled up you will only see one half of the rope going to one side close to the top.
So the rope from the outside, is fed through, inbetween the plastic for the door and ceiling, then it comes down, under the rolled up door, and back up to the original entry point. Make sure the loop is long enough to losely be put to the side when the door is down.
6. odds and ends. That screw that we put in the top to mark where to mount the light. Take one of those hooks with a screw on the end and screw it in.
Then cut your hole in the plastic where the fan is with a razor. If you cut it just a little smaller it will stay snug around the fan, but don't put it around the fan yet. I used this hole to put the light through into the room.
To hang the light I used a pulley system so it could be adjustable. For this rope works smoother and better. The rope will hang over the hook in the top, then it goes strait to the hole you fed the door holder ropey thingy through. put it through that same hole. Outside the room you need a thick staple, or and eye of some sort to feed the rope through, then it goesto what ever you tie it to to keep the light from falling. I used the sink drainage pipe because it was right there. You should be able to attch the light on the floor and pull on the rope to raise it up then tie the rop when it is where you want it.
7. Duct tape crazy. I stared from the ceiling and ductaped the seams. Then moved down the corners of the room, then around the fan, then I duct taped the seams alond the floor. When I did the floor I I did all the way around except for 10" on one side so it was open at the very bottom. This allows me to sweep dirt out and to squegee water out. Now take a flashlight, close the door behind you and crawl in, with your roll of duct tape. Now tape up and light leaks you can see, if that' hole to sweep dirt out isn't that important or leaks to much tape it up. It should be close to pitch black in there by the time you are done.
8. Air intake. Now here is where I was stumped till my Husband reminded me that light doesn't bend. So I took 4" fleible shiny dryer ducting. I cut 3-3.5" diameter holes in the sides and front(only the side panels not the door), then screwed the ducting(about 10-12" long) into the hole. Then I bent them downwards and secured them to the plastic with duct tape. Now you get to turn on the exhaust fan. If the door sucks in you need more intake holes, if it doesn't your fine.
9. turn on the light. Do a dry run for a day or two to figure out temp and airflow issues. I found I needed to add a small tower fan to circulate the air and recently added flouros in the corners.
10. Take your time. Measure, check, measure, check, over and over. Then think of every step right to the end(or at least up to the big wall that always blocks you up at some point). then measure and cherck again, then finally cut. You will probably have to change a few things or alter them, but what ever works for you.
I hope this helped someone out, if there are any questions or clearifications needed, please ask. I apologize but the camera is leaving me today again for a little bit.
Thank you so much for pooping in and happy growing.

Buds are growing, slowly. but it has only been 2 weeks. I moved the clones under the 400w mh bulb and switched the clones yet to root under the cake dome, and the rooted clones have to dome cracked. Well the unrooted clones aren't to happy, but they are still holding on. I shaded them to cut back the intensity. The light is as high as it can go. As a result the whole basement is lit up which I forgot about regaurding the flower room. The flower room is pretty much light proof but the low light in the basement was an added security with only the flouro going. But the light from that MH bulb is bouncy, especially with white floors. The light was shooting up the 90 degree intake tubes. So I noticed this last night and was fortunate enough to have two blankets right there and old pipes from a shower in the basement we had removed, so I threw them over top, careful to rerun wires and move the ballast. Then this morning I go down and find the blankets o the floor. Not to judge or jump to conclusions(fucking Cats) but I have an idea. So I rehung the blankets a little more securely, and ent to inspect my big babies. Casey and FOxy have very minor mites that are kept under pretty good control by plucking underleaves that are yellowing anyways. I moved a pot and behind it was a puddle of water(?), I noticed it the day after watering but it dried up by the next day so I wasn't concerned, but it's back. So I checked for leaks and found none, went to clean it up and it's CAT PISS! So kinks are being worked out and I think I'll be headed to the nearest asian resteraunt with some skinned cats to donate. No I love my kitties just need to figure out a few things.
Anyways thanks for visiting and feel free to speak up anytime. Since I started the Womans war thread it seems everyone is gathering there, but hey all's well.

I go down stairs everyday to say good morning to my ladies and rotate them around the room, and everyday the itty bitty buds are a little bit bigger. Then I go check on them to see if they've gotten any bigger. But I never notice a difference. So I check more often. No difference. By the evening I'm content just to sit and watch my plants and try to catch them growing behind my back. But I never do. Then I get up the next morning and they've grown again. I love it. It's so much more fun to grow your own. The anticipation and impatience alone is worth it.
Anyways now that I've ahad my moment of the day. I haven't seen any mites in the last few days, but my eyes are open. I figure I'll try to do that for a few more days, if the under leaves are really bad I'll remove them, a few scattered I'll spray the underside of the leaves with water(not much cause I don't want mold problems), then I'll spray Doktor Doom, one last time to kill the suckers left.
My plants are 53 days old, and 17 days into bud. They are taking more water more often, We went from 3L every 6 days to 4L every 5. Yesterday I watered full feed with Big Bud(since you only use it 3 weeks and it cost so much and I have so much extra) The carbo load, Cal/Mg, and the three part nute system. I'm just using their lite feed though. No need to burn them twice during my first grow. I'll tweek it more once I get a ppm meter.
I wish I could show you girls pics but my camera is gone. Maybe I'll try a few with my cell phone.
Ok I just checked on my plants and I HAVE A PROBLEM.
One one of the 4 taller plants, 2 fan leaves are affected. It starts at the tips and is inbetween the veins. It turns splotchy dark puplish green then contorts as it curls up and dries dark green, not much different than the original green.
This has been written in chunks throughout the morning. Any ideas on what this is please help.

After all the crap I've gone through with these things, I am now afraid of bugs.

I'm so happy. Jaz's top finally has a little root nub! now I need to wait for Bella. I've decided that the purpling stopped, so maybe they were a little short on Phousphorus and sulfer but the were just fed so that should fix it. The ph is fine so if it happens close to the next feed I'll increase my nutes.
A few of my rooted clones leaves have contorted as they grew since I put them under the MH bulb, and have a little yellowing so I think maybe they had used up all their nutes growing roots. My nute system suggests a 250ppm solution once they develope roots and I've stared that with no ill signs. I also pulled the humidity dome off after cracking it a few days. They seem to be doing fine, they're slowly growing.
With all the clones I plan to top them once I have 4 nice branch sites. Then I'll have 4 mainstems growing out and up like a cup. I'll snip the branches out of the inside of the cup and try to LST the outside branches. That way I have the chance to convert a vegging clone to a mom if I really like this harvest.
Thanks everyone for stopping by, I watch my veiw number climb so I know you're lookin out for me.

What I did when my plants were 4 weeks I started to pull the top horizotal by shaping the plant like an S. then I pulled all the large branches out to the side almost horizontal so the secondary branches took off. Once they reached the edge of the pot and started growing up I cut the lines. I only topped by accident with my ties. But once the tops came off the top 3-4 branches(the mainstalk is horizontal remember to allow equal light) They took off. So I have 3-5 main colas now and lots of side colas. Very bushy plants, almost too bushy, I'm running out of floor space now, but don't regret it. I would spend hours tying each day, but I was also trying to slowly bend a tree trunk like stem so I had to do it gradual, otherwise I would have kinks, braches pulled down too much can split from the main stalk, and fine ties(like fishing line) can slice through. Even tiny nicks with that line would cause it to cleanly snap when pressure was pul on it. Next time I'll use yarn for sure. Kp said she would put a screw in the outside of the rim and just wrap it around. Sounds like alot less work.

I used that real soft nylon rope for tying boats to a dock. Got it at Wal-Mart, goddess bless 'em. I FIMmed 3 of my 4 plants, and now they're all lsted in one way or another. Two of them have all 4 mains tied, and two of them are just bent at the one main stalk. One of those is untouched by FIM or topping, it's just LSTed. The other one was FIMmed, but the two branches don't want to let me tie them separately, so I just tied them down together.
I swear, my next grow I'll be more organized.;)

OK I am having a problem with some of my clones. On some I had yellowing, leaves and branches growing scrunched and a few brown crispy spots. Some hade only one sign, some had a few and others are totally fine. I have many variables such as adding very lite nutes as recommended by the product, moving them under the 400MH, and losing a timer so not having nighttime heat stability that they were used too. With so many variables I didn't know what was going on. So I set it up like a lab experiment and charted all my information and made some connections and identified clusters. I noticed that my early clones were more affected and the occurances became less as I cloned more. I did some research and found that when left in rockwool cubes then planted strait into soil there were a few unconsistant variables. So I would periodically gently pull them out and check for nubs. The two clones that are the worst were the first to grow roots, but in the etra day it took to get everything ready they grew into the cube. So I pulled the cubes apart carefully around the roots then planted them. So I have come to the concusion that most of my clone problem is the result of stress to the roots system. The yellowing on some is consistent with nute def from directing energy towards rooting. And the two that have slight burns are probaly the result of the root systems of a few not being quite ready when I started with the recommended very light nutes. I don't think the nutes caused the contorting because most of the plants new growth appears to be growing properly, and the ones that have contorted new growth are a little newer. So all I can really do is wait and see if my theory holds true. Luckily I have enough healthy clones to keep my strains alive, and a few clones just now rooting to watch and observe.
But hey this is my first grow and I'd rather play now so I know for later. As time goes on I'll have more oppertunities to experiment once I have my bonsai moms going that I'll have to take clippings I don't need off anyways.
Any theories, thoughs, questions or suggestions, feel free to shoot, cause I'm here to learn.
Thanks as always for popping in for the visit.:D

I'm reading your thread, I swear I'm paying attention but I still have a question: What medium are you growing in? I keep looking, and I know you're using Advanced Nutes, but are you using soil, hydro, or aero? I must be missing something.:p

i'm using sunshine mix 4, it's peatmoss, perlite and vermite(sp?). Anyways it's like soil but since it is pH balanced and has no nutrition in it it is called a soiless mix.

Well 3 weeks into flower and my room is FULL. All 7 plants are closing in on eacother. I am very temped to trim some of the whispy under branchs off with very little buds. That way I can pull some of the bulk out and concentrate energy towards the top buds. Then I can stick those branches in as clones And play with reverting them back to veg and seeing if they will clone. Then I can still have one of every strain and might be able to replace some of my messed up clones.
The other issue I'm having is those bushy northerns of mine. The fan leaves are so big and they are so compact that there are little buds in the shadows. I can't pull them out of the way to expose the buds because the I just cover up another bud. So I was thinking maybe pull a few blades out of the leaves.
Either way they will be choking eachother out soon, and it should help with my bulk.
As for my purpling problem it has slowly spread a little but only now that the pots are drying out, so I could keep my nutes the same and make it worse, or increase my nutes and make it worse.
I think I have to change around my setup a little. While the rooted clones are doing fine in the stage one dryer drum, the fresh clones keep drying out way too fast. I also think that the cold night temps are slowing things down. So I figure I want the clones in the stage one drum under the flouro with the heater at night. So that means I'll have to move the rooted clones into the stage 2 dryer with the 400MH bulb.
But that causes another problem because I am down a timer because I need it for one of my flouros in the flower room, and I also wanted to move the heater to the flowqer room since the temp goes from 80 during the day down to 62 at night. Oh so much to do so little nap time.
Urg I want to be downstairs working on my garden but K is up and her naps are cutting back. The time will come very soon when she will have to get used to the idea that I can't always be in her sight. I quit my job to be home with her but we are seriously hurting for cash so this hooby has o not only pay for itself but I need to have enough to help a buddy out so we can help ourselves out.

I'm right there with ya. I'm concerned that I've just picked up an expensive hobby. I'm seriously considering, since I've come this far, expanding a bit, and raising enough to make Christmas money every year. The thought of selling though makes me paranoid.

Well with swtching around a few cords and by shutting off the flouros before lights out manually(even a little early is fine, the plug them back in when we get up in the morning) I can support my set up. as for the selling part I hhave 2 ld buddys who have faced to cops for me in the past and have kept their mouths shut at their own expense. These are the only two people I will deal with here. I have one more friend in a small dry city an hour away. And he is the one exception I am prepared to make. I may talk H into picking up a 1000w hps after this crop. Then I'll build one more large room out of Panda plastic for flowering, and that's it I refuse to have any bigger set up than that except for some side lighting and basic improvements. I really just want to get us out of debt, we're only about $10,000 behind but after three years of working at it as we pay one thing off another pops up out of H's past. I would like to get to the point were we can be caught up on basic bills, make minimum payments on the rest, and have $200 in the account. Our first annaversary is tommorrow and I don't even have anything for supper, never mind be able to make a nice dinner for when H get home...
crying babe, be back.

Hey for the undergrowth... 3 weeks in and you still have a chance to make those crap budsites into clones.
Trimming lame low shoots is not a bad idea for a couple reasons; they often die anyway due to lack of light, the buds are dumb, and the plant can focus energy on the 'real' buds!

Sorry to double post, I always forget something.
Chrissy, how did you solve your temp issue?
Chronic Chrissy
02-10-2007, 10:35 PM
OK gotta type fast because I have a plugged up miserable baby finally taking a nap, a bra in the dryer(the one that works), and I still need to get all dolled up for H tonight since we now have a little cash.
Changes. I took a leaf to my growshop last night and we sat down and worked through all his books. Since the brown is between the veins and there is a tiny bit of yellowing around it, starting at the tip and working in on the older leaves we came to the conclusion that I have a Mg def. Which blind sighted me since I'm using Cal/Mg. But the temp on the floor of the flower room is 67 and the top temp is 85, during the night they both drop to about 63. The low soil temp could be what is locking out the Mg. So I torn up the floor of my room and put left over carpet underlay under the panda plastic so they aren't right on the cold concrete. I also had to do some rearranging to set up stage 1 and 2 dryer along with the flower room, and found a way to set my whole flower room on the timer. That means the ehaust fan isn't pulling the warm air out after lights out, I also got to repostion my tower fan having more cord to work with. The temp now is 82 at the top and 69-70 at the bottom.
I have both the stage one and two dryers going side by side, and put the unhappy unrooted clones back under the flouro, they are much happier now, and the heater is set up too so they get to stay nice and warm. The rooted clones are doing fine. I topped them today at 4-5 branches from the bottom. Hopefully with a little bending I can have all the branches growing at the same rate. Then I want to minimize secondary branches a much as possible till they are flowing to keep them from getting bushy but still having 4-5 main cola's. This should allow the plant to concentrate on actual bud instead of undersuckers, and let me put more plants in the flower room with out them choking eachother out like they are now.
I have the rockwool cubes primed and warming up for tommorrow I plan to take 2-3 clones off of each flowering plant. At the same time I'm going to pinch any tiny under buds, or buds that are hopelessly shaded. Sop this should be and adventure in itself having to wait for them to revert back to veg then root. But now knowing how long they normally take to root I know when to start looking for signs.
I will have to water tommorrow and was using a little less Cal/Mg then suggested so hopefully with the little increase and the temp stabilization I can stop this def, otherwise I'll have to start folier feeding. The net water after that I plan on using plain pH water and carboload to let the plants catch up on any nutes left behind.
Dryer stopped, time to beautify. I should be popping in during down time, but only for the next hour, then I pick up H and hopefully drop K off, and it is time to make up for a sober wedding. Maybe if I have enough drinks I'll see how that dress of mine fits, and maybe this time H won't be too druck to sweep me off my feet into the bedroom.
Cheers to applesauce and all my fellow Canna friends.

Well last night was a blast, till we got home. K had such bad tummy troubles she didn't sleep all night, poor babe. But she's better now.
Having put my clones back under the flour set up they have all rooted, but I still haven't taken the flowering clones. That is happening tommorrow. I also have to water tommorrow so I'll increase my Cal/Mg.
My Grandma dropped off a cedar hope chest and I was thinking of using it to dry my harvest in, because it should dry it pretty quick. Does drying quick in a dark cool place affect the product does anyone know?
Anyways I'll be updating tommorrow.

Oh no. Just a silly mommy who doesn't listen to wise older Mommas. We've been having a few weight issues so whe've been introducing solids(wanted to exclusively breast feed the firest year) and she's loving it. I was warned about peas by my aunt, so I figured I would mix them with some sweet potatos. Well she loved them but only til they got so far in her. So friday she bit me 4 times while breastfeeding, and the 5th she bit and pulled while laughing. I flicked her bottom lip before I knew what I had done, not hard, she looked at me cried then went on playing 2 seconds later. Well after that she didn't breastfeed all night or yesterday and didn't eat much solid either. I thought she was on a nursing strike because I flicked her. Tyhen her 3 daily poops didn't come and I knew it was the peas. The one poop she did have yesterday was thick and black, usually they eplode nice a gooy all over the diaper. So she hd to work the rest of it out. We went out to the bar where Harliquine was playing for 2 1/2 hours and came home rather happy and ready for bed. Well her had a gurgly stomach and was farting away all night. We sat her up, scrunced her legs as much as possible and pumped her legs up into her belly. She would fall asleep then I would drift off and she would slide out of postion and wake up. Mean while with her not nursing my boobs were eploding so it hurt so bad to have anything touch them. I wanted to pmp before going to bed but H was to drunk to give K(I hurt then at 1:30am) to so I figured I would wait till she fell asleep which never came. So 4:30 I needed to get it out, so H got K and I pumped 6 oz in 10 minutes. She still didn't go to sleep after that though. Around 10:30 am she finally had another thick black poop and since then is nursing and eating again. They should put a warning lable on peas, I have half a mind to sue.
Oh and we love teething tablets here, they work great for so many things and calm her down but they can only do so much. We like to stay as natural as possible and practise some attachment parenting, babywearing, and partial cosleeping.
But anyways I got my happy baby back, only had 2 naps today but that should mean we'll have a great sleep tonight and we get tio sleep in a bit.

OMG peas are the worst!!! And then mixed with sweet potatoes LOL!
That link up there was for Hyland's colic remedy. I know, I didn't know they made anything besides teething tablets until I had my kids.
I'm glad she's all sorted out.:)
Oh, and don't worry about the lip flicking thing. It's not child abuse to stop the little vampires from biting your nipples off. It's like a mama lion cuffing her cubs, part of the necessary learning process.;)

OK I ahd a big day and not much time so I'm double posting this in my log.
To start off I needed to water so i increased my Cal/Mg and hopefully that fixes my Mdef. I've tried to increase the root temp but that would require money I just don't have.
After that I took 2 clones from each flower plant. I wanted to try something out so for a few I cut all the buds but the top off, and left the other fully intact, i want to see what happens. I took branches from the very bottom or totally shaded and streching.
So that left me with a little cup of tiny buds. not the best and not the most frosty but enough so that after a few trips to the micro I was able to sample it and get a little buzz.
So after tht I cleaned the room top to bottom with bleach like I always do. then that cat went in there and pissed. Fuck I forgot to clean the cat litter like I promised. Oh well there is always tommorrow kitties.
So next i had to plant my three final clones to root including 2 of the three tops I broke off. then not thinking stuck them right under the MH bulb instead of letting them adapt to the soil under the flouro for a day. So needless to say they wilted before I relized it. But now they are back where they belong.
My plants are looking so pretty I can't wait to share. K needs to go to sleep soon and we have a ton of movies on tonight so if K co operates(which she isn't doing now) I'll be back. If not good night.

Aww not the cat pee! Yuck! I have a cat who is 13 and completely blind. He hates our other cat, who is a young intact male, about 3 years old. So I let the oldtimer in the house the other day, since it's so cold out. He usually prefers to be outside, so I had to trick him into coming inside. Anyway, that old bastard sprayed in my frigging KITCHEN! I could have killed him. He can stay his old ass outside and freeze.

It's not running rampid or anything, but there was more purpling before this watering which stoppedonce they were fed, but i'm already exceeding the recommended ammount of Cal/Mg, so I need to watch as the pots dry out again. MITES! URG! i have mites on the clones I just took so that means I have mites on the flowering plants. The lights for my colones didn't turn on this morning, one is dried wilted and dead, then the other 3 clones that just rooted one is wilted and the other is passed help. So here's what I'm doing...
I'm going to the kitchen to grab a shot of vodka
I turning of this fucking useless computer
I'm cutting the little buds off all my new clones and pitching all the ones with mites then drying them to smoke a pinner
I'm pulling every flower plant out of the room for a full inspection
Infested leaves will be distroyed
No pest strips will go in
Lights will be lowered
But first above all else Chrissy is going to put down the baby find a pillow and SCREAM.

After 10 months of no period PMS sure comes back and bites you in the ass to make up for it. So here's what I've figured out. My clones did have mites and I chopped 5 of them because I don't need to screw with mites and the rooted clones have no mites so if I stop it this cycle they will be gone for good. One vegging clone dried out and wilted but is picking up, it's ne of the deformed ons so it's really no big deal. The 2 newly rooted clones are still very sad but I'll keep faith. I pulled all the flowering plants out, inspected, found no mites what so ever and sprayed anyways. I'd rather do it now then later in bud. I also lowered my side lighting and made a few improvements while it was empty. I searched the city high and low for no pest strips but all I found were those sticky paper things, and no one had any idea what I was talking about. And the computer junk, well photobucket has worked this far and when i down time I'll figure it out.
So really I just had a little meltdown over alot of nothing.

So all three of the wilted plants came back from the oher side. They are recovered and out from under the dome , but still under the flouro. I just came to the realization that those rooted clones are my next batch, and the only way I'll get as nice of plants is to take care of them.
I hung the co2 ketchup botles from the ceiling today. I had them under the fan before but this seems a little better to me. I figure my next grow I want my bushy strain to have only 4 main colas, the tall ones I wan 5, so I'm starting to train my little ones now. I'm still not sure how many I want to put in that flower room next time. I think if I control how bushy the busy ones get I'm perfect with 7 plants still.

Hey, if you're going to be growing to make some scratch, you might want to invest in a CO2 system. Either a tank, or one of those microbial buckets...let me find you a link

Biggest producer so far is Jaz or Mrs.BL, some of those colas are 10-12" down the stalk. But my northersa are FAT under all those leaves, it's hard to get a pic of it though. I'm hoping to get atleast an oz a plant.
Oh bree, I went to download Acrobe reader and the photoshop showed up, so I played with that a little. Actually I've had the thing for a week or so now, just couldn't figure it out.
Anyways here's a northern Fat bud pic. They only go about 6-8" down the stalk, but they are bushy fucks, with 2-3 main colas, and 4-7 seccondary colas.

OK So the last time I watered I used R/O water since the last 4 were feedings. Big no no for my ladies. Now the Mg def is back not bad, but enough to weaken the plants enough for the mites to start creeping out again. Sneaky bastards are creeping up the middle and staying away from the outer leaves so they'll be a bitch to spray. The good news is that everything else except the flower room is mite free. So I just have to make it through this harvest and clean up well. I really want to get rid off the bastards but would be happy enough to hold them at bay till I chop, in about 4-5 weeks. I just don't want a mould from all the misting, and no one knows what no pest strips are around here, they think I'm talking about sticky paper. Atleast I'm over half way there.

New Question
we have a guy who is going to make an appointment to appraise the house that means going through the whole house. Oh and it's minus 30C here, and my house stinks like bud. So not only do I have to hide the plants without screwing them up, I have to hide the room, and the dryers, both stage 1 and 2 and find a place to put all of them, and take care of the smell. Do you think that the man would believe that I have a somewhat deodorized room for the cat litter, to keep the dogs from having kitty litter snacks, and keep the house from stinking? Maybe I can put the plants in the attic? The garage isn't insulated. I don't know what to do we need this appraisal done asap to efinance or mortgage and the plants keep getting stinkier. Maybe I'll start a thread asking everyone...

OK so I left all the plants in the bathroom with the window open for 15 minutes each with the temp at 26F. After that I rattled the hell out of my plant, brought them downstairs to spray them. As I was going downstairs with Jaz I dropped her tripping over the dog! She went all the way down from the very top, bouncing on her ass as she went. I'm so lucky, not a branch broken. Now everyone is back in the room safe and sound.
Then I went to check on the vegging plants. Wow what a difference transplanting made, they're taking off pretty good now, and the branches are starting to level out. The three late ones that I held off on transplanting are growing out of the bottom of the pots. So I'll transplant soon and see if they catch up to the other plants quick enough, then I can replace one or 2 not so healthy plants.
Now the exciting part. I took those cutting while the plants were in flower 12 days ago. Out of the 9 that made it though the mites 5 have roots popping out everywhere, and 2 more are just getting roots! The amazing thing is that the northerns that were taking a week longer to clone normally from veg are rooting at the same time. I also have at least one clone from every plant but one.
I have lots of pics for you guys but it takes a bit of time, so they're coming.

An absolute must for the indoor grower! For many years the Northern Lights® dominated the various Harvest Festivals. Through selective breeding we have succeeded in producing one of the most powerful plants in the world. On top of that, we have developed a pure Indica strain highly adapted for indoor growing: compact, powerful with a good yield and exceptional resin production. A most lucrative plant for the indoor grower.
Flowering: 45-50 days.
Height: 100-125 cm.

If you look at Nirvana's NL they say it's an 8-9 week strain, so it can vary from one NL to the next. I would listen to what buddy told you since he has grown it before. Not all NL strains have the same genetics... my BC Bud Depot NL seeds are supposed to flower in 6-7 weeks (we'll see on that one!).

Strong, lasts a fair time, I can smoke and do stuff, it makes the high more enjoyable, but if I hit the couch with a bag of chips it takes a little to get motivated. It's honestly some of the best stuff we get around here and is considered high quality. It's fun to grow and lst, it's been responding to cloning pretty easy lately. It's also very hardy and easy to keep happy. I'm pretty impressed by the yeild I see so far. I'd say go for it all the way.

The girls are starting to swell up. I lowered the light alot to bath each when they get their turn below the light. Tomorrow is the day. So the plants are going in the garage for a few hours, hopefully it helps with the mites. Then we are deodorizing and piling junk in and around the flower room and putting the dogs in the basement. So wish me luck.

The plants hav been in the garage for an hour now and still look fine, The guy called and said he's running late and should be here in an hour so we'll see... worse comes to worse we harvest early.
