Ok we are having issuse with a few of the other pics so you are welcome to visit my photo bucket to see then or to trace a single plant back to the begining to see it's life.
First off thanks for stopping in and giving my grow a little bit of your time. If there is ever anything you want to know more about please speak up.
I'm doing this in slots of free time so I'm sorry if thing get a little confuing and takes a while.
Well the plants are now 77 days old and have been in flower for 41 days. I'm growing in sunshine mix 4 under a 400w hps in a room I build which you can see pictures of in my photo bucket. I've used Advanced nutrients 3 part system with carbo load, cal/mg, and big bud through veg and finally decided I didn't know what I was doing and followed their lite flowering instructions on their site, watering with plain water every 4 feeds. I try to keep the water at 6.7 pH and will adjust it when needed, I have had pH problems before.
Right in the begining of flowering I did some LST and tied them down a little I was trying to keep an even canopy but there is just no way with these two differnt strains.
As a result a few of my plants lost their tops or main colas, which were cloned and are now growing in my next generation of veg(see photo bucket).
Another problem I have had is MITES. I hate them. The plants came with mites as clones. Buddy stopped by with a box of clones and we had no set up ready, and I didn't know what mites were, so it took a few days after we set up to figure it out and it got to the point of webbings and dying leaves, not pretty. I picked up some Doktor Doom spray with that crysanthamum oil stuff in it. I spayedand, kept up with it till I thought they were gone but then the fuckers pop up again. So I would spray again, then they go away then come back. So a week ago I tried to freeze them in the bathroom for 15 minutes then sprayed them down with End all which apparently kills eggs. But my ladies are just too bushy, the mite traveled up the middle of the plants like a ladder. So I sprayed again, and the next day, and the next. That was a few days ago, I haven't found any mites since, but what if they're hiding?
Yesterday we had to shut to whole thring down and pull it all apart because a guy was coming to appraise the house. The only safe place we could put the ladies was in the gutted car in our uninsulated garage in the freezing blowing snow for 3 hours. We shoke them off before bringing them in. When H asked to see what mites looked like I searched but couldn't find a single egg. So I have high hopes. I really don't want to be spraying because I'm getting so far into flowering and even though they say it breaks down in a few days I still feel uneasy smoking it, but also don't want to be smoking webbing and mites.
Some one here is hungry so I'll let you all chew on this for a while and I'll continue this a little later and maybe answer some questions if there are any.

OK where was I. Oh yeah mite spray and smoking, which reminds me smoking. I have sampled a few times. The first was when I took clones three weeks into flower, I was trying to trim out scrawny stretched buds and I coulding stand to waste it. It was pretty good, got buzzed, wasn't too harsh. Yesterday we took a bit off the bottom again, trying to bulk up the top buds and because we were a little dry. Anyways I know know what it is like to smoke bud full of nutes. It burns funny, and is hack your lungs out harsh, it had a nice kick that lasted a while but a strange somewhat headaches sensation, anyways when you have none, it does the job.
As for the clones I took then 3 weeks into flower, 2 from each plant. Some I cut the bud off of and others I didn't. A day or two later they were exploding with mites, their weakened state from cloning let them run rampid. So that's one way I found out the ladies were infested. Half of those clones went because of the mite I wasn't going to fuck with the. now all but 2 have rooted in 12 days. But I think I have enough plants for my next crop so these were mostly experiment since I don't want to reveg them.
Hmm what else is there? Oh yeah I've had an interesting Mg deficiency to figure out. The plants were also burnt a few times during veg.
Now that I look at everything I've put these plants through I'm amazed that they are being as nice to me with their buds as they are. They've been quite frosty for a while. The Afghanis hairs are shiveling up and the Northerns are just starting. The Afghanis have short heavy bud, and the Northerns long Fat buds. I'm trying to watch the trichomes but have ran into a slight problem. when H was moving them in and out of his car yesterday he must have garzed the tips because the nice balls are mostly gone on the very surface of the top tiny leaves. This isn't much yeild wise but they were the best to see the tricomes. When I do havest I think I will do a gradual harvest in 2 stages leaving the later harvest a week later to stock up shaded buds. The plants are all getting nice and stinky and looking very yummy. H is getting super impatient and I have nightmears of finding he's chopped a main cola too soon. But I think I have him in check. I'm really hoping to get at least an ounce a plant. When we dry the weed it keeps it's size pretty well but it has to be pretty dry to be able to smoke it but hopefully that's just because the nutes are making it hard to burn.
Well thanks for sticking with me but I've run out of things to say right now, if I think of anything else I'll try to find time to post it, and I'll try later to get the rest of thise pics up.

The trick is to always have pot, then the temptation isn't as bad.
Here are some ad-libbed lyrics to the tune of the last verse. These are a little more appropriate than the real lyrics. :)
I've been sneakin' small nugs at night,
Just tryin' to get a bit high.
If my woman ever finds me then I'm in some shit.
She doesn't like my tokin' small nugs one bit.
But there's nothin' to smoke, so what else can I do?
I don't like being sober any more than you,
So I sneak it,
Yeah-y yeah, I sneak it
Just this time...
Did you happen to snap any photos of the plants w/ Mg def? I think I might have that in one of my NL plants so I'm going to get some epsom salts for their next feeding... but I'd like to be sure it's Mg def. For the Mg go to my photo bucket and look for the purpling pics. If it is a Mg def the discoloration will take place between the veins and as it dies the tips of the leaves curl up. Hope that helps. Great lyrics, hopefully we don't have to "sneak it anymore"

Go for it I don't mind really.
Some one asked my yesterda how the trichomes looked so maybe I forgot to tell you girls. When H was moving the plants in and out of the car he knocked a few of the tops and they brushed the door, bursting my top 12/2 of the buds trichomes, which were the easiest to see with my dinky mag glass, so I'm just a little clueless right now.

So I did some transplanting today. Hopefully I can find the nice timing so my Northerns aren't so much bigger then the afghanis. I decided to have Mrs. Bin Laden instead of Jaz as a mom because her buds are so thick. So I trimmed some roots on Mrs. BL and FIMmed the 2 tallest branches(hopefully FIMming works this time)
Bella seems to be maturing faster than the other northerns, too bad he buds are so small, plus she's had the most struggles. The Afghanis pistils are 50% orange, and lokkinh about 50/50 milky so I think I'll water with just plain water tomorrow to start starving them and maybe by next weekend I can do the first chop of teh mature bud and leave the bottom maybe a week longer.
I'm having trouble seeing the tricomes properly so I think I'll be looking at other signs of maturity. Like 90% swollen calyxs, and 90% orange hairs. I'll keep looking at the trichomes but just incase I'm not seeing things right I have other standards to follow.

OK so I started starving the Afghans giving them only water. I think maybe next week for a harvest but if they have to go longer they'll just starve a little more. I've noticed a Calcium and Magnesium deficientcys in the Northerns, and a few of the bottom leaves are dying on the very bottom under everything on everyone. It only a leaf or two but it's starting. I haven't even noticed any yellowing really and am suprised, maybe my plants are farther off then I figure. Oh well we'll wait and see. I found mites on two of the northerns. These Northerns are way more susptible to deficiencies and pests than the Affs, and some more then others. Bella has the weakest immune system of all regaurding nutes and pest, and has small buds, but she clones so easy and seems to be really far ahead in maturation compared to the other plants. I think Mrs. BL was a good choice for a mother she all around pretty strong against everything and has nice weight on her. If the Affs do finish before the northern then next crop I'll put the northerns in first for a while so they all finish around the same time, plus that gives the Affs a chance to get some height. I'm really working on pruning and controling bush with those Affs for next grow by pinching out new shots that are trying to take over, I want to keep only th 4-5 colas on those going strait up, it's a challenge but I'm up for it.
I've learnt so much this grow already I can only hope to have an even better harvest next time.
Thanks for the visit, please feel free to share the love and let me know you're still there.
Peace

Still living with a cheap mag glass. The Afghanis(short bushy ones) over half the hairs are dead and the calyxs are pretty swollen. I don't know if they'll be ready for next week but 1 more week after that and they are at 7 weeks. Buddys says they should be ready soon, but he's going by some one elses grow and how do I know that he is harvesting at the right time even if they are clones of those plants. So it's wait and see, but the starving has started, if they end up going 3 weeks without nutes at the end then I know there are no nutes left over the effect the final product. I would like to leave them as long as possible so they can get as big as possible.
Another discovery I have made about my grow is that I'm having heat problems. I was reading the elongated bud thread and the very tips of my plants have started to grow like that. And it makes sense since a week ago I really lowered my lights, so now I moved them up a bit and hopefully there is enough time for them to recover. I'm being a=ttacked9u9g8foyi,./kl/.k

Chrissy.
I've got a thread posted trying to get some advice from a couple guys who used to post a lot when I first joined. However it seems you've got a good hold on techniques so I think you're as good a person to ask as any.
I've got a closet grow planned, but I am unsure on how to go about doing it. It will be in a walkin closet, but the closet is not entirely dedicated to it. Stealth is a big issue as it is in an apt and, the lady is concerned as am I, lol.
I dont know if getting a cabinet for inside closet would be the best as it seems like it would be the most stealthy. But I really like the panda plastic and 2x4s because not only is it a remarkably less initial set-up cost, but it looks that it can be competly broken down in about half an hour if need be.
What do you think, Im tryin to get some ideas but thus far no one seems to want to put their input.
P.S. Have you seen posts by Jamstigator lately?

HAven't ever come across that guy vibrations, sorry. On a better note I see your closet in my head and an idea, but I need more details, deminsions, whether you can used existing walls, or whether you want to build a full cab within the closet. How many plants are you planning on, the light system, cooling, side lighting? Fill me in and I'll work on helping you through the build. draw me pics.

Alright, I am not 100% sure on the closets' dimesions as it is in the works. However most apt walk-in closets are around the same size. I plan on going soil, purely organic. Using CFLs and maybe some flouro tubes for some extra lighting during the vegatative state. For the flowering I was planning on a 250w HPS, but that may all depend on if I can afford it when the time comes. Otherwise an array of CFLs.
I have been doing my research and know that CFLs arent the best choice, but there can be some good grows acheived with it. If using a cab I was going to order some light-proof louvre vents that are commonly used in dark rooms. These would serve as intake vents with an inline fan at the top of the cab extracting to a carbon filter.
Im imagining a cab between 6-7' being sectioned off into two chambers. The lower half being the flower chamber measuring at least 4' the other 2-3' would be the veg chamber, this is another reason why CFLs will be used, due to the ability to get close to the lights without any problems.
Your panda box seems like it would work in the closet using up one part of the wall, and would be much cheaper than having to by a cabinet. However it was ever seen the plastic box may raise suspicion. This is my biggest dillema.
If using the Panda box I would like to keep it small being 3' wide, and 2' deep. This is a personal grow, being able to have a box full of clean, tasty bud for a spliff seems like heaven, as you already know.
Thanks for the willingness to help, you can post in my thread that I had mention previously, or just using yours its entirely up to you. I am subscribed to this one anyways.
Stay Fresh.

Why not just camoflouge the box with a curtain that could breath. Plus think, what are the chances of someone snooping through your closet. The other theought I had for you is that you could use hinges to connect your walls or your box, that way you can pull the pins and take it down fast or maybe pull out the middle section to make either room larger as needed. I'm sorry I don't know much about cfls, but I do know it won't get too hot but still don't neglect air movement even if you don't have a temp issue.
The other suggestion I have is tho at lease use panda plastic for the floor and let it go 6 inches up the wal so if there are and spills it's contained and sealed and easier to keep clean.
Good_Vibrations
03-10-2007, 07:59 PM
Yah, you've got a point about the chances of someone looking into my closet, I guess it was mainly if the maitenance people need to go in there, plus I plan on changing the door knob so it can lock.
I am somewhat comfused about the plan for the hinges or pins for the box. Lets say I choose to go the way of the panda film, maybe we can work together to make a gnarly section.
Is your panda box sectioned off into a veg and flower chamber? I think that is something that I would like to do, but do you think it would require having two carbon filters?
Respect.

The panda room is my flower room I have a clone chamber and veg chamber in an old dryer. With thw hinges you would have to build the walls independently. So each wall would have to be built out of a frame of 2x4s then covered with Panda. Then you join the walls with the hinges, so if you ever have to move just pull the pins the walls can be taken apart and in your next place just put it back togather. As for the part to separate the sections think of a door with hinges on both sides acting as a horizontal surface, if you place the hinges in the right direction when you pull the pin that holds the hinge togather out you can remove the divider and replace it easy.

Looking good Farmer, how long is your strain of Afghani supposed to take?
Well I've been busy and still am so I'll see how much I can tell you.
I began my harvest of the Afghanis. I took the tops off 2 after 12 hours of dark, and the other after 36 hours of dark. I clipped the first bud and was holding it but not expecting it to weigh what it did and it toppled over out of my hand, lol, a little dog fur that's all. I have them hanging in a carboard box with some air moving through, I took off the fan leaves but left the rest for later.
My northerns are having def problems still. First it was Mg, and now I thought it was Ca but it could be Boron, the good news is they are all treated with the same product. So I increased my Cal/Mg. I figure they have 2-3 weeks more.
The Afghanis remaining buds are quite immature so I think I could need another 2 weeks for them to finish, so I fed them today to give them a boost and will continue R/O water after that.
I shut the clones down since I have no need nor room for them. I found mite on two plants in the dryer but they are separate and very isolated so hopefully they came in with them and they aren't swelling. I threw them out I'm running out of room anyways. The vegging plants are very happy and are taking off right now. I keep trying to load pics but they aren't working.
I sprayed for mites again today and cleaned the room top to bottom. Still no nopest strips, didn't come in with grow shops order.
I'm Double posting this in my log and the Womans war.

Mites suck! try and find no pest strips, or pick up some neem oil, or end all. In the mean time if you don't have a humidity problem use some soapy water in a squirt bottle and blast those fuckers off, the next day use R/O water to rinse off the soap. Good luck!

Ok So I'm looking at the Afghani stumps left in the flower room and they are picking up nicely, but they are still a little immature even though they are bulking out. So I think maybe one more week, giving the bottom 2 extra weeks. As for the yeild so far Foxy gave me 12g from the tops, Jenny gave me 17g and Casey gave me 19g. This is just the tops mind you the rest will be added later but the total so far is 48g. I would post pics but they aren't to great,
the Northerns you'll see alot more. They are getting chubby. If you look back you'll see the pics of the "elongated" skinny tips of the bud, well I cut those off because where it grew skinny it stayed skinny so the top is growing stunted like a little pompom at the top. I just chopped the little nubs off. Turns out they weren't caused by the heat, they were caused by the Boron Deficiency. Anyways since treated the Northens are getting chunky, I know I'm getting more than a once off of each plant.
H is pressing me to chop them all down but I'm holding out. I think the Northerns need 2-3 weeks more til I chop the tops off, I might do the whole plant at once with those since they are lanky and light penetrates pretty well. And the afghanis need at least one more week. So I'm looking at 3-4 more weeks till the flower room is free. If I didn't have mites to irradicate I could move other plants in once the Afghanis are out and use the space and light.
So this presents me with a problems because my vegging plants are ready now. Also I notice that the Afghanis buds are stretched because the lights have to be so high for the Northerns. So now I will grow one strain at a time. So I know what I want in a plant to go in so I can keep bush control this time, and my plants won't make it with out getting out of control before I move them to the flower room, not to metion 2 of my plants are deciding to be jackasses and started growing 1 bladed leaves, and leaves that look like crippled bat wings. So my solution. Clone a whole new batch from 2 Northerns and try to speed the cloning process by taking better care of these plants and transplanting them up every chance I get and topping asap. I took much bigger clones this time since I had 11 Tops that were available to be cloned which I took.
So the plan was to get rid of the vegging plants and only use the clones. But now I screwed myself because Topped the Northerns are under control and easy to control hopefully. Well the untouched Aghanis are gettin a nice leg up that could equal the feild. So if I let the Northers bush out a little and get bigger pots for all the plants. So I put 5 big plants in the flower room that could be managable, and in the meantime these nice clones get 2 months to be grown to perfection.
Now I'm thinking to much. I need to use this free time to take care of my plants instead of over analyzing them.
If I get the chance I'll find you some pics.
Thanks for stopping in for a visit, Happy smoking
Oh shit I forgot to tell you about the final product, pretty potent, very relaxing, better than normal shit for this area, but I think I could have waited another week. That's it I'm done...
Peace

Wow Chrissy! That must be a great feeling to be growing better smoke than you could get normally!
I overthink things too. And some things I don't think through enough. You're doing great though, off to a much better start than I am. You've actually got a yield that's worth talking about. Keep it up!

Congrats on your first buds harvested! There's nothing wrong with thinking things through or writing it all down here. It's gotten you pretty far and it sounds like you have everything figure out pretty well!
I'm going to do one strain for a while too. Just have one mother and do an 8-12 plant SOG. Once I have more space and know what I'm doing then I'll try some other things and maybe have more than one strain going.
Try and get some damn pics up soon though woman! :D

Won't let me post pics. Oh did I tell you I have it all figured out now?
I chop the rest of the Afghanis this sunday like I planned. I get no pest strips
for the flower room, then move the plants I have now into the free space while the northerns finish up. Gotta Go, I'll finish this later...

Wow busy busy busy.
The Afghanis brought in 145gram between the 3 of them
Casey 52g
Jenny 49g
And Foxy 44g
The northerns tops are drying while the bottom get an extra week. Our largest bud came to 62g of wet bud, Can't wait to see when it drys.
Got a no pest strip finally and the next round of plants is in the flower room while another 11 clones are working on roots.
No time for taking pics so I have none to post.
This thread is getting hard to find time for. I will be back to fill you in on the Northerns but I think after that this thread will be done. If I start a new thread I'll move it to the grow log forum so keep your eyes open because after June Chrissy is cut off from the web and flying solo.
Thank you for spending some time in my grow room, and feel free to stop in and ask how things are going even if this thread seems dead I'll be watching.

To me it looks like it has to be a problem with the sharp angle of the stem on the one branch , somehow cutting of the branches water supply. The wieght of the bud might have finally cut off its water supply. The rest of the plant looks very healthy so I think that has to be the problem. If you havent cut the branch off yet you might want to try and support it up a little to the main plant with some yarn,so its not bending at such a sharp angle. Also spray that branch with some h20 so it can get a little water.Give it a day or so and those leaves should perk right back up. (spray both tops and underside of leaves on that branch)

it looks like that branch's base was attacked by fungus. i could be wrong (and probably am...) i'd chop it...but that's me for you :p

Another thing I thought of there might be a dry "pocket" in your soil where water is not getting to the roots that supply that branch with water. You might want to try using a peice of wire hanger and poking a few holes around your soil to make sure water is able to reach all areas of the soil. Then give the plant a good watering.
