i have 3 ladies, that have been growing for 3 weeks today. i have a setup for 1000 watt hps, but right now they are under a single 24" flouresnt tube. i water when they need it, and have used a small amount of nutes 2 times which they liked.
ive been also lsting for a week.
on all 3 ladies, i seem to have pre flowers. (i will take pics tomorrow). but is this common? this is my basically first grow, but the plants look beautiful, and am going to pop the 1000 watt on tomorrow, for 24 for 3 or 4 days, then switch to 18/6. id like to veg for another 3 weeks, maybe even 4 weeks.

Hey BIG PAPA...
when you say pre-flowers, you mean you can see PISTILS?
Seems a little early...actually a lot early if you are using 18/6 lighting..
i look forward to the pictures...
cheers

Here are some closeups of preflowers. Also, this thread (http://www.yahooka.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54234)has some excellent flowering & pre-flowering examples.

Good pix Volker.
smokin dope, sounds to me like you are talking about the little horn-like things that come out at the nodes. From what I've read, those things can appear on both males and females. What you really want to keep your eyes out for are little balls right next to those little green horns.
Give them some time, then they will show themselves better. Have you thought of cloning to determine sex with a test specimen?
G'luck.

Great pics!! Easy to sex at magnification, u just looking for seperation between the preflower and the stem to know it's a male. Like a ball on the end of another tiny stem. The female preflower is continuous from the stem, no seperation and also has a teardrop shape. Also in my grows, can be sure the best looking plant is a male!

These stipules are often confused by new growers as pistils or female hairs. Both male and female plants have stipules.
I couldn't resist... LOL .. had to pull my KAK out too...
