hi everybody:yippee: i've been around the board for a grow now, and i'm becoming more and more interested in the geneological differences of strains.

~some background~

i've been growing outside for 7 or 8 years. always bagseed. i'm scared to death of the big brother effect that we call "the government" so i've never ever oredered anything online, nor have i ever given my true name or address. for this reason, i've never had "good" seeds. anything i've grown has turned out decent, but nothing like my first kb experience (nl, ohhhh so amazing:)) or any other after (yukon gold, strawberry, blueberry, and a few i couldn't confirm)

so... i recently obtained seeds from an ex. he is in the know with a grower, and i ended up with a mixed blend of trainwreck and blueberry. with these "high dollar" seeds, i decided to go inside:thumbsup:

i'm nearing the end of my first indoor grow, and getting ready to do some remodeling for an easy access perpetual.

~intermediary note~
anything i say is fictional. if i did do any of this stuff, i wouldn't be putting it here. if i was taking part in illegal activities, it would be strictly for my medical needs, and nothing else. completely personal.

i found another friend who'll hopefully be expanding my strain line, but i don't know what he has in mind. my goal is to obtain a collection of exotics, to rotate in and out. i produce my own seeds, so reproduction is no prob, i just have to work on building an initial collection.

so anyway, i have decided to start a thread on the many different strains, examples, descriptions, tips, effects, favorites, wish lists, new breeds, ......

basically, i want to make a strain enclyclopedia thread that is based on your personal experience, rather than textbook explanations.

i hope everyone enjoys and that we get a lot of participation:)

until we meet again,

love, kp:p

Hey silly goose, you think that I would forget about you? Right now it is the holiday season and I have folks that I am trying to make things special for this time of year so try not to be so hard on me. Since you have got a handle on so many things you don't have as nearly as many questions so I just stop in and go over your threads and say hy, but know that I am still your darling Bear.
So don't be too quick to give my afections away to the next passer by. I would try to get to know you even better, but time and relations don't permit, but I am still as good as a partner as the old World Wide Web will allow.
I will check back in later. I think Stinky could contribute about 150 smoke reports to this thread. She seems to grow out more flavers than Basken Robins.

Bear hugs from your Blue Adieu

~BLUEBERRY~

ok, here's some generalizations i've made about this strain. i performed several experiments throughout the grow, so i'll only go over what was shared amongst all plants.

germed easily, all within 24 hours. broke dirt 24 hours after potting.
all showed deformations between weeks 1 and 3, leaves were curly and abstract. all showed signs of nute burn before they got their first feeding. i think this is a norm for bb, as i've seen several threads of people trying to figure out why their leaves had yellow spots, when everything was balanced and no nutes. respondes well to topping.

they all responded well to their first feeding, showed a passion for n and k.

~description before flower~
plants are extremely lush, with huge fan leaves. blueish tint and purple/red stems. short and bushy.

~description during flower~
all (3) still have blueish hue, nodes are tight with leaves that block the light from the bud. extremely compact. late bloomers, took two weeks to show.
fat white fluffy pistils, tops look like umbrellas. after topping, all lateral branches stretched out, 20 cola's per plant. good producer when topped.

i'll be posting another bb description in a few weeks, as i watch these finish out.

~TRAINWRECK~

germed within 24 hours, 100% popped, broke dirt in a day. started out kinda stringy showing sativa-like traits (thin, long leaves, the desire to grow, grow, grow. did not recover well from topping; they became viney and weak stemmed
responded well to equal parts n p k.

~description before flower~
light green and purple, with a reddish/purple hue. stringy, sativa like, only smaller. more lateral growth than apical.

~description during flower~
trippled size in two weeks, gained strength, and flowered in 3-4 days after 12-12. viney, but amazing site numbers, and looks to be an excellent yeilder. glistening with oil and trichs. dark green leaves, light green stalk, reddish/purple leaf stems. very pungent if touched. branches are unable to sustain weight of buds, and have to be tied and manipulated, stems snap easily though. i've had to play doctor to two of them, as they got so heavy they bent over, kinking the stalk. healed in a day, growth never slowed. this strain has impressed me so far...

i'll be posting another description of tw in a couple of weeks, once these are finished.

..F1 seeds from Holland...germinated 18 out of 20 seeds..directly into the soil

grew so fast under 400HPS Hortilux..I had to play catch-up..the whole grow..

13 out of 18 female...5+ft. tall at harvest....crippling high...

Just checking in Princess. I will be posting up a gescription of the strain I am growing soon. I want to breed first so I will have a good idea of how the seeds develop.

I am naming this strain "Black Diamond' because it is a local hybrid that is not supposed to be distributed:D I can't use its given name or shit WILL go down:eek: Its good to know people though:thumbsup:

Seeds will be available after the New Year and so I look forward to letting y'all know how the Diamond performs.

Hey little lady , Sent a line strait to your yahoo, hope you get it. I like the BB and TW descriptions. I have about 24 seedlings going right now and believe it or not I am hoping for a low female turn out because I just don't have the room to do all of the experiments I want to, mess with a 30 gal bubble bucket, throw up a 4x4 ebb and flow and that's with the dirt pots I still have going so I am a busy Bear.
Also the UGold is still around I believe that Reeferman seeds, bad spell has it in seed form.
Hope to get this mail thinggy sourted out.

hi bear, finally got your initial messages; maybe they take a while to go through or something:confused: what strains are being concocted in your laboratory?

good luck on your new set up, i may be asking for help soon, as i'd like to start learning the hydro methods. i'm completely green to water growing...

Hey Bear and KP...Bear...you are entering my dreams. It is kind of wierd. I almost never remember my dreams. I must be refining my astral projection skills. You were held up in some mountains snowed in for work or something like that. In my dream your wife told me where I could find you. Pretty strange though. You were as cool in my dream as you are here on the board.

Do you have some pics you could post of your set up Bear? I have never seen a pic from you so that may be intentional. Please do I would love to see your secret hide out:thumbsup:

Sorry to hijack KP. You will love the Diamond as I already know your taste and preferences. Don't worry Bear you will be having quite a new year fiesta with all the beans you will be getting.

i do believe the bear of blue will have a wonderful christmas this year:) i hope we all do.

dreams are wierd... last night, whilest under from the recently dried sage, i laid out and slept for a few hours; my brother came in my room to ask me some particulars about the day.

i said, "we've got two more females! going to call it the widdow's diamond..."

wow, widdow's diamond... is that my subconcious making plans for a black widdow, white widdow, and black diamond cross?

have a friend who is going to try to procure some black widdow, and yukon.... i hope he does; he said he'd pass on a couple goldies:D

hope everyone is doing well, i look forward to post holidays bear; maybe we can get to know each other better, compare notes, etc... i always love picking your bear of a blue brain (don't think that came off right, but i meant it lovingly:p) would also love some strain descriptions from the ak laboratories:)

love to all;)

Hey KP my lady and CJ my boy. Well as far as pics, I have to depend on my wife for allot of visual type things like photos because of my sight problem and she is not always motivated to use the camera that she pleaded for, LOL, but I will try in the next few days.
Beans, beans and more beans, how delightful. Dreams, Dreams and more dreams??? I do live like a hermit and don't go out way to much, to busy being Mr. mom and reading dusty old books from the 19th and 18th century and before, and the MJ farming consumes my existence for the most part and that is without being snowed in, luckily most of my work is at home. I am a LMT, but don't practice too much. I guess that you could say that I am indeed hibernating for the winter.
Strains, well I have been messing around with a Afghani land race strain and I just got a Afghani mix from the East coast that I am growing out as I type and I still have some BigbudxSkunk floating around my city that I need to get a cloan back from, I think that I may have a Afghani X Skunk X bigbud highbred in the mix as well. Oh ya I am growing out 1 Purple Lion strain that I picked up from a friend who got it from Ultimate seeds. If it go's well I will get some more clones from him and raise up a mother.
If I get my family out of this home this summer I will just dedicate this cave to my projects and think about really refining some local strains and stack up some mother plants. I may go old school and just put the mothers in 5 gallon buckets with some Shultz potting soil and just have to water and change them out once a year or so. I like my bonsai, but i like the robust vigor of the big moms as well.

Well it is late in my neck of the woods and I need to catch up on some snoring. KP, glad to have you as a friend and hope that we can keep building. CJ, also hope the same with you. Are you in the North or South? I have a good friend in Humboldt around Garberville along with a little partner in Diego. How are those ebb and flow treys doing? My partner pulls about 2LB off of one 4x4 under a 1K with no CO2, LOL Hope your luck is as good.
Adieu
PS I will give some descriptions tomorrow if all go's well. KP, little goose, --- Be safe and Love yours...

i just realized something. ~lightbulb~

i grew out the bagseed and called it sage, but i can say it's predom sativa. very cerebral, spacey, almost stupefying. not very much body effect, though. great for anxiety/nerves.

got blueberry going. super couchlock.... hmm.....

i pollenated a sage clone with a bb male. stupefy+supercouch? holy crap!

i can't wait to plant a couple of those seeds:D

this is going to be fun:)

Ahhh you have sage...
My favorite smoke of all time. Sweetly herbal, happy, talkative, relaxing, and VERY strong. Nice bag appeal too. I like the pure clear green color of the buds.

This weekend I sampled some of the Afghan that just came down. The seeds were given to me as 'Afghani Dream' by an old hippie friend's son who is a breeder. Smoke report is incomplete as was the cure, but it still was just ridiculous stuff- frostiest buds I've personally ever seen 'in the flesh', almost TOO strong- a friend's boyfriend who fancies himself a serious smoker took one hit and yakked all over himself. Ha ha serves him right for bragging about how he gets G-13 for free from some dude he mucks stables for, lol. I've seen his so-called G13. More like Canadian mids... solid, reasonably strong, but boring really.

Let's see what else... there's something growing in the garden right now that has a SERIOUS sweet orange candy smell... 2 plants show the trait, just inbred bagseeds from my whole grow history...updates on those ladies to follow; they will be getting pollenated with Smashberry to try and lock down the strong fruitiness and see how it all shakes out.

Honestly I can't contribute as many smoke reports as I 'd like for a couple reasons; I started grwoing BEFORE I started smoking as a favor to my BF who suffers from anxiety, so I missed the boat on some stuff. Another reason is that most of what I've grown has been bred down from unknown but solid bagseeds and I have no names to put to the plants. But in the next few months it should all be changing as the new stuff comes ripe.
KP this is going to be a FUN thread!!!

Madam Stinky has arrived. Good to see you here Stinky(I like calling you that) you are the "Queen of Strains" from what I can see on the boards so your input and experience is welcomed for sure!! reading through your log inspired me to pop some herbs and veggies in my room. I'll let you know how it goes

KP - Heeeerrrreeeee I aaaammmmmmm. Thought I would come by as promised and let you get a look at the Black Diamond since she is going to become part of your family:)
I am posting pics of her at day 16 just before she got pruned. Today is day 21 and buds are starting to fill in. Yeah!!
Still no word from the seed man here so I will keep you posted.

Sir Bear - I have also been kicking around the idea of soil for my moms.(less maintainence) I will only be able to have 2 or maybe three in my current closet growth area but that should be enough for now.
I am in Nor Cal, Sacramento. I would love to have friends in Humbolt. It is so beautiful up there in the redwoods. The coastline up north is incredible as well.

All - Is there a how to for pollenating on the board? I would love to see some takes on getting it done. Not that it should be rocket science but I would like to peep its out there.

Peace and much love All -Jay

Pollenating... simple, just slip the open male bud into one of those tiny ziplocs that seeds come in, snip off the stem, invert, shake all the pollen down to the bottom, and go around painting it on your horny bitches with a really soft paintbrush.

hi stinkyattic:) i was wondering when i'd hear from you; i love your log, you've inspired me! i'm going to be creating a collection:thumbsup: i've heard some great things about the middle easterners;) and sage is truely incredible! i've forgotten how much fun a super-intense energetic head high can be:) love the flavour too...

to bear, crispi, and anyone else... my mail is on acid or something...messages aren't being sent, and some not recieved... i'll make a new one tonite.

had a REALY bad prob with spider mites last night. it's like they popped up from nowhere and built NYC right on top of a cola. i hosed the infected and surrounding areas with safer's insecticidal soap. i think that might have been the demise of bb#5... just hope the little bastards don't transfer themselves...as of now, no signs of alien life; all green to go here...

traiwreck is 2-3 weeks from harvest. buds are so leaden that the branches have had to be tied up to support the weight! and the smell is incredible! kinda pineysweet...

bb's are about 2 weeks behind in developement. leaves in the buds block a lot of light, but i don't think i'll be doing any pruning. i'll see what they do on their own.

hi knowm, long time babe. how've you been? please drop by more often;)

Hey little lady, your the only thread I am checking out right now, because I wanted to let you know I haven't vaneshed. I am going to check my Hush in a minute, but as of the last time I had no luck.
I am just so busy. I have 11 in flower, 9 one month olds about to go in, 14 seedlings about 9 days old, 5 new cuts in the bubble cloner and 8 other cuttings in the process of rooting. For me it is a little tireing having so many little ones in different stages of life. I am going to flush out a couple tonight with about 4 gallons of fresh water.
I am going to get you a good DIY DWC link and try to put together some good basic hydroponic links to get your feets wet.

KP, the papayas are only just flowering now so I'll let you know how they turn out; as I said, I was growing a bagseed line up until only this summer so all the 'good' strains are either vegging or flowering with the exception of the Afghani Dream, which is rejuving right now for clones.

Well I hate to say but I finally broke down and bug-bombed this morning. My flying pest problem was really starting to piss me off because there's only so much you can do with the neem in flower, ya know?

So I went to home depot and found a fogger that contains only pyrethrins and no activators. The activators can be nasty. This one is a Raid product with only permethrin in it... I'll let you know how it works out, but I harvested anything that looked even close to ready because now anything in there is STAYING there for at least the next week while that shit breaks down.

GADS I'm so glad I haven't had mites yet.

CaliJay

Your Problem can't be as bad as the one in Gnome's "See More Buds" Vids
That is absolutely out of control!!!! Women..They distract you from the important things huh Gnome? heheheh

KP.... DO NOT... kill the spider mites!!! You will need to locate each of them and carefully transplant them to an outdoor location otherwise you will hurt your karma!

Just funnin' Pyrethrens are on the way luv. Kill Those MFers!!!:D

The bombs work and so do the no pest strips, but many folks are dead set against them, but if you hang them up for about a week, just 1 that is, and take down for 3 to 5 days and then hang again you may solve the prob. They carry them at Wally World.
Once you get rid of them you should wash all of your plants off because it is pretty narly smoking bugs, the snap crackle and pop.
Hugs, adieu

Oh yah, you will need to sanatise your dog every few days and keep it out of the room IMO, or it will just become a safe harbor for the buggers, I know it is a hard row to hoe, but the pooch might have to bite the bullet on this one and get used to lounging somewhere else.

I think that a boiling cauldron of 10%bleach, 10% bat wings, 25%horny toads and 55% camel spit should do the trick. Dip pooch twice daily until pooch has eaten all of the Horney toads then dry thoroughly and find him a female pooch, most prefer the Lassie type. LOL

bear, so funny, my dog is weird about other dogs with the exception of greyhounds and ... SHELTIES!!! She LOVES them. It's really odd.

The fogger works okay... I fogged the veg room once, the flower room once, now I'm waiting a week for all the remaining eggs to hatch and I'm going to do both of them again.

One thing with chemical pesticides is that you can inadvertently end up with a population of pests that has evolved to be resistant, so if you use them at all, make sure that EVERYTHING is DEAD DEAD DEAD. So the next couple weeks I'm doing nothing but killing bugs. boo.

I'd contribute to this thread, but my grow is not complete yet :)

I am growing NLX, and so far I'd say it's a sativa/indica cross, with stronger indica traits. So far it's been short and bushy with nice fat fan leaves, very short internode spacing (1cm), and good branch growth (1/2cm). And they're only on their third set of fan leaves.

Keep in mind the last time I grew was maybe 25 yrs ago.

This strain so far looks like a good indoor choice, and I expect some bushy bushes and a real explosion once I put them under HPS (currently only flouro's)

Hey Mister E! Haven't seen you posting before welcome. One question for you. Why are you guessing at the sativa/indica blend when you know the genetics? Can't you just look up the actual crosses specifics somewhere?

Hi, I'm sure I could look it up somewhere, but I figured I'd chime in with my impressions based on the look and the way it's growing. Whats a good place to look up some background info? They were freebies.

Freebies huh? You said NLX and I thought you were saying Northern Lights Cross. I figured you knew what the cross was. If not you can't know but if you do know you can search the seedbanks for descriptions and they usually have the blend in there.

Yes they were seedbank freebies, and I presumed NLX = Northern Lights Cross. I'll take a look when I have some time form todays madness. What is it, a full moon?

Well, I've noticed there are a few seeds sold/labeled such as:
Northern Light x Big Bud
Northern Light x Shiva
Northern Light x Haze

But the ones I got were simple labeled "NLX". So some sort of accidental cross pollination could be possible, then tossed in as freebies.

I can tell you that a few of the seeds look immature, and the ones I germed was 1 nice and mature, 1 semi whiteish/immature.

They are showing what could be described as new strain vigor, then again this is also my first hydro grow. From what I see though, if all goes well I'll certainly clone them and maybe if I get a male I'll generate some seed. It looks quite nice and I am absolutely not picky.

I have had problems with the hush as well, oh well, where there's a will there is a way. GK I don't know if you read on another post that I found you posting on, but my wife saw the clip to your vid and about had a hot flash, now she wants me to go full blown. You created a monster with only about 60 seconds of footage.
KP, that tub should be fine, as a matter of fact you have to figure that 5 gallons per plant root ball is good, the only thing you really have to worry about is the top side with the branches crowding in each other in only one tub. Another thing, with the large tubs like that they will suck up alot of nutes, but then on the other hand you will have les tub changes do to PH and so on.
Well, I am getting crowded in my garden and am hoping that about half of the 9 from seed will be male. I have 12 others from seed that I am hopeing the same for. I had my wife take some picks of some stuff tonight, now I have to see if I can get her to post it.
Well nice to have everyone stopping in on here will check back tomorrow.

i think it's 48g... about 2 1/2ft x 3 1/2ft. i'm thinking of something like a bubble cloner, only for sog... vegging for a week, so they stay smaller.

well, got 11 more days! tw is getting FAT! every branch is tied.

bb's are behind... might leave them for an extra week or two.

KP, that is some of my stock, I put him out on a breeding contract a few years back, but have a 5 month old dauter from him now.
With the tub, you want to use it as a bubble cloner and then transfer to soil? It will work just fine if that is what your thinking. One thing, what are you going to try to use as the medium? Right now I just have mine sitting in the hydro rocks with the stem poking into the water, I may use rappid rooters next time and cut them in half.
Later little goose.

no, i was thinking bubble cloner (clone them in the spots that they'll end up being in) turned into a dwc. it's basically the same principle, right?

Just as a note, I've found that the NLX seeds I'm growing are Alien NLX, which they describe as a sativa dominant that is best flowered young else you'll have a forest on your hands.

~Haze x Skunk~

Seeds sank in water overnight. Germination took maybe 2 days in paper towel. Broke through dirt the very next day after potting in Foxfarm. Some of the leaves had a slight distortion to them. Leaves were quite large just for 1 week old. Plant seems to not mind high temps. Temps in closet would reach up to 95 degrees farenheit in the summer. This plant takes lots of water with no problem, and responded very well to full strength GH nutes after just 1 week of growth. No signs of burn at all. Responed well to LST.

~description before flowering~
Deep green leaves, very long and thin leaf blades, definatley sativa dominant. Fan leaves had up to 13 fingers. Medium height... sorta mix between bushy and stringy.

~decription during flowering~
Plant at least tripled in size, stems turned red/purple color. Late bloomer, took a week or two to show flowers. Buds are long, light and fluffy. The number of bud sites are insane, the buds are almost the entire length of the branches (if that makes any sense) definatley a good yeilder and the LST helped alot too.

Sorry if this description was bad, this is my first grow/report. :o

I've been growing Bubblegum for the last few years. It grows easily indoors and outdoors. Growing outdoors it will mature when the daylight dictates. Whether I start indoors in April and move them outdoors in May or plant directly outdoors on July first they will mature around the end of October (45ยบ latitude). They will bear up to frost very well and show purple leaves and flowers.
[attachment=o104938]

Indoors they can be grown to harvest in 12-16 weeks, depending on veging time.
They respond very well to cropping and ground training by bending (breaking) the stems over, keeping the plants within 12" of the ground. I do this to hide the plants and it has been working out well. I have had plants stolen from the same general location, so I'm pretty sure the site has been scoped out by bandits.
It is a strong, mostly indica buzz. Personally, it does have some anxiety if I smoke a lot. It tastes pretty mild and smells fruity sweet/fresh green but not at all like "hay". It has lots of resin/trychomes and fat leaves.
Average yield for a plant in a 6 gallon container is three ounces of dry-cured bud.
[attachment=o104937]
The outdoor plants have lower yield per plant due to the training.
