i have seen some how to carbon filter threads but the average cost after the fan is $150+.i am getting ready to build another 10$ carbon filter and was wondering if you would like a how to?it is good for a small cab grow or a drying room.i currently have one in my veg with 18 plants...cant smell a thing unless i put my nose to the plant(then it is quite potent)

materials
fan 4.99 or 5.99 i don't remember:stoned:
fish tank carbon 5.00(ish)
2 liter bottle
24 once beer can
tape(i recomend electrical tape but did this one with automotive hose tape)
scissors

now poke a bunch of holes in the bottle and can.and cut the top off of both.and cut the bottom also off of the bottle...not the can!!
you will need to save the top and bottom to the bottle so don't cut it up real bad.

cut slits in the bottle so you can get it around the fan.
add tape

now cut slits into the top of the can and fold them out.
place top of bottle on can top and mark out where the top of the can hits the bottle.(you may want to cut a little above the top since it is easier to trim more than it is to add to where you cut off to much.
slide can through bottle top so that the flaps of the can are on the outside.
add tape
then slide it down into the bottle(this may take a little effort to do without bending up the can so take your time with it

add the carbon
now you need something to put around the top of the carbon.i used a swiffer cloth
now put the bottom of the bottle back on.i put it on upside down because it gives you more options on how far down you put it.you want it to touch the can
add tape

completed filter
i have the fan pushing rather than pulling through it but either way works fine.

i have used a fiter a little smaller than this in a cabinet with 4 plants in it with great success

took around a half an hour

I really like this and I tried to give you props for it... I guess I have to give someone else props first because I gave you rep too recently... but you deserve it! That's a neat filter.

I gave c of green rep...is this a new feature of the website, I didn't notice until a day or two ago...also has anyone noticed how long it takes to show? I looked around but couldn't find? S

yeah i have been thinking about making one out of a box fan.it'll take about 30 packs of carbon....but can you imagine the size room one could clean with that and should only cost 50$ or so

i wish i could change the title to this thread..the ? just doesn't quite cover it.

and i forgot to say that you may want to put a nylon(pantyhose)around it if you have the fan pushing.....i just didn't have one so i didn't think about it

explain the part about putting the bottom the 2 liter bottle back on a little better for me? I need to use this idea for my own cab. I'm absolutely thrilled to build my own. Your idea is MAGNIFICENT! (bows at feet)

jsut put the bottom of the bottle in the opening of the filter.but put it in upside down so thatit will rest on the carbon and the cut part should match somewhat with the cut part of the rest of the bottle.

update......this doesn't seem to work to well in a large room even with only a few plants in it,due to the fact that it can't move alot of air.it can't even kill the vegging smell in my room where i have 28 plants.but worked great in my cabinet and closet where i was flowering and drying 4 plants.Of course it is possible that i need to change the carbon...it is about 6 or 7 months old.when i do that i will let you know if things improve.
