Some pointers when looking for a good Bubbler:

ok this is transplanted from another thread. basically im high and started rambling about bubblers when the topic was something else so here it is.

Why do i need one?

The problem with bongs is that they are too big and fragile to transport, or take to a session. Also, it is hell trying to get a bong bowl to last through an even medium sized circle. To a lot of my friends, a session means packing a few pipe bowls. but honestly, fuck pipes! those feel like shit on your throat. It is only an extra 20-30 dollars from a decent pipe to a good bubbler. they smoke great as a session piece or a personal piece, plus everyone will be thankful somebody has a good piece. so next time somebody asks, what are we smokin out of? Justins pipe again? you can whip out a badass piece and get everyone higher

So which one to get?

don't get a shitty bubbler. trust me, you will know if it's quality or not. if you can look through the carb and look at the bowl. Do you like the shape of the pinch after the bowl? Does the downstem reach all the way to the bottom of the water chamber? (a good thing, it should just be slightly away from the bottom, not close enough to impede the flow of smoke). Suck a few practice hits through it, it should rip pretty good, but that's up to you. make sure you spend a decent ammount of money on it, otherwise you're better off just saving your money. I bought a 40$ dollar bubbler, my first piece, because it was the cheapest bubbler at the place. IT SUCKED!! may as well have been a pipe. Next piece i spent 70$ on a bubbler and got that sherlock. it hits great, and gets me ripped. Next i spent 160$ on that double bubbler, and it gets me way more stoned then the average bong. plus it's portable, although i try to keep it at my house when possible.

I spent $80 on mine about 2 years ago and it is still in pristine condition. I still love it but after owning one there are a few things I will consider before buying another one.

1. mine has the smallest bowl of any of my pieces which is fine for personal use but absolutely gay when smoking with a couple people, it usually won't make one rotation with 3 or more people taking decent hits.

2. even if I use special "glass cleaners", or 99% rubbing alcohol it is a bitch to clean. I like to use large grains of salt or rice as an agitator, along with rubbing alcohol to clean bongs, but the salt and or rice usually will get stuck somewhere in my bubbler. Q-tips and pipe cleaners are difficult to use as well, especially where resin collects the most: in those hard to reach places.

3. When I picked my bubbler out at "the gas pipe" in Austin, Texas I was hesitant to spend much more money then I did. The owner was really pushing this mushroom bubbler that had a diffuser as well, It was the most beautiful pipe I have ever seen, and to this day I have not seen one quite like it. It was $150 and I passed, looking back I wish I would have been more open to investing in the mushroom pipe. Because if I ever find one like it again, I will be out $150+$80, and I would probably give my current bubbler an inferiority complex.

In the picture below is my bubbler, which I call the bamboozler. And another pipe which my roommate stole and then apparently somehow broke.

i can get mine in pristine condition pretty easily, get a pack of bristle pipe cleaners, and some lighter fluid (or gasoline, or paint thinner, or any cleaning solvent) i know most people are afraid to put that in there, and if you don't wash it out right it will suck for sure. so fill it half way with the solvent and shake for a while (covering the mouthpiece, carb, and stick a finger in the bowl. rub at the bowl with the solvent and it will all slide off. twist 3 pipe cleaners together and use them to clean the downstem.

Ever since I got my first bubbler i've never gone back. The only problem is that it can get clogged sometimes so cleaning is an important process of having a bubbler. The hits are so smooth...

Bubblers are cool I guess.. but I never really would have use for one. You can't really conceal it, which is why a bowl is more practical in that sense.. You couldn't have that thing in any pocket without someone noticing a huge buldge in your pants.. and if you don't have to conceal anything why not just get a nice sized bong?

You guys know any other sites besides the usual Edit and grasscity? I'm also looking for a nice bubbler. I saw one I kinda liked on Edit, but I kinda like a more straight shape rather than the 'sherlock' look. Has anyone ever ordered from Edit...do they ship to the States, and how long did it take? Thanks.

Bubblers are pocketsize, if they fit in your pocket they are pocket size.
