hey guys... i went out today picked up my soil n bits n bobs for my next grow.. well im going to germinate 10-12seeds.. i have a 250wathps n a 400hps.. i was going to use them both in flower.. but my question is.. is my 250watt capable of vegging 10-12 plants?? i would rather use that then the 400 coz less heat for the babys.. but just want to make sure thats enough light to veg them till 12-14inches .. thanks all:thumbsup:
pps.. i know i could have just got a few floros for veg less heat but i had a certain amount for this grow and ive spent it.. so gota go with what i have...
ppppppppps.. im so excited its grow time again hehehehehe:D

I would use the 250 for the first couple of weeks. Maybe you can switch to 400 when you start feeding them around 3 weeks. The 250 will allow you to keep the light closer at the beginning so they don't stretch and they put more side growth with the light closer.

Mr. Berry,
The 250 will be fine.. But you will get tighter nodal growth (which means thicker denser buds) if you use the 400 watt bulb at THE SAME DISTANCE...
LIGHT PROXIMITY to foliage is key to BUD size!!!

but wouldnt it be better to use the 250 for say 2weeks.. then switch to 400?? i plan on switchin to 12/12 after say 1 month veg 12-14inches.. my reason for questioning your answer is becoz when i vegged my northenlightsxbigbud i used my 250hps as it was all i had.. 1 month veg and they was 12-6inches... great... then i grew bubblelicious n white rhino vegged with 400 they grew so slow at first.. i had to veg for 6 weeks.. but i know you know what your talking about.. its just i dont want to use the 400 have to have it say 16inches above the plants n they streach to much.. hmmmmm.. i think my prob is i worry to much lol as im fairly new to growing..3 grows i worryed loads bout em all verious times.. but they all came out fine.. with the exception that i never got 10oz a plant but hey thats just wishfull thinking haha.. well i started to germ my seeds today.. same way i did last 3 times.. and yes im worryin allready lol... even tho they allways germ for me haha.. damn i must say my recently harvested rhinos smell so good.. i crack open the jar hmm heven.. anyways im gonna shut up now... o except i may do a bit of a grow journal as i havent done 1 yet.. anyways thanks for your input Garden Knowm

Hey berry..
when you say they grew slow.. Were they(the lights) producing the same amount of nodes but were just shorter (vertically?)..
A 250 watt bulb may produce TALLER plants than a 400 watt bulb in the same amount of time.. because the plants under the 250 watt bulb will be stretching,,, but the 400 watt bulb should produce equal and more nodes..
NODES are what is important.. not height..
:)
keep us posted..
cheers
