Well as you can guess this is Hank Jr.'s son. He isn't your
average country singer he has toured with Down (Phil from
Panteras side project band) and his style well its going
back to the older country rhythm with a bit of speed,
weed and LSD mixed in.
When I saw him live the last thing I expected to hear
from the guy with the Misfits T-shirt on and covered
in tattoos was country music....LOL
I hate new country but this is something differnt.
As you can see he does not fit the mold of your
average country singer. He is carring on the legacy
of what good country music is supose to be not that
god-damn pop shit you hear on the radio.

He toured with Superjoint Ritual, not Down. His guitar work with SR was pretty good, but I really can't say anything else about his work.

My bad LOL got my Phils so called side projects mixed up.
I really didnt ever get into Down or SJR but I think he played
bass for SJR not guitar. Phil was just selling a cheap imitation
of pantera with both of those projects.
Anyways check out his Straight to Hell album good shit.

to say down is a cheap imitation of pantera is the dumbest thing i've ever heard. 2 completely different(and awesome) bands.

Opinions are like ass holes buddy.
I am a Pantera fan but those projects were bull shit in my
opinion. He road on the pantera name to market both of
those projects and guess what he was not even a founding
member of pantera. You think that you would have even
herd of Down or SJR if it wasnt Phil from pantera singing?
that wasnt an opinion numb nuts it was just wrong.
you said it like down was just phils band and he wrote all the songs which was wrong. they are two different bands, down was recording material as far back as 1990, had an album release between pantera releases that sounded nothing like pantera.
sjr was just dog shit metal but it sounded nothing like pantera. 3 played bass.
damageplan was what i call trying to recreate pantera and failing.
and hank 3 is very good, i will agree here.

"Numb nuts" LOL nice and very mature of you.
You are right we will have to disagree. Damageplan was actually
created by the founding members of pantera Vinny and Dime bag
so the style was theirs to do with as they please as for Damage
plan sounding like pantera I believe both of Phils shitty side projects
(which ruined pantera by the way) sounded a lot more like the style
of Pantera than Damage plan does. And as far as the Down shit coming
out between panteras releases it is because Phil shit on the band that
made him what he was to go do that bull shit Down garbage.
i called you numb nuts because you are stating your opinion like it was fact. had you not been talking out of your ass or if you appeared to have the slightest idea of what you are talking about no name would have been needed, in fact if i had it my way you would have just said it right the first time.so i apologize but the best way to prevent it from happening again is to get a clue first before you start talking you have one. now you see.
and yes calling people numb nuts is immature and ill probably never stop:p :smokin:
this isnt a contest and yes from here we will agree to disagree but if you think down sounds anything like pantera that means you havent heard one song by down. not one. or you havent heard pantera.
and phil made pantera what it was not the other way around. look at what pantera was before phil, look at it was after phil. look at damageplan have you heard better musicians playing worse music in your life. id say no and if you knew a goddamn thing about music you would see why down is infinitely more original and unique than damageplan.
those side projects didnt ruin pantera. you really have no idea what you are talking about i am through with you

Stating it like it was fact if you read my post "opinion" is a keyword!
I am a Pantera fan but those projects were bull shit in my
opinion.
And yes I have herd Down I bought that shitty first release and it
has collected about 10 years worth of dust. You just want to throw
a bitch fit because I disagree with you. I have not once made an insulting
comment towards you but you have to act like a five year old on a play
ground. And if you knew anything about the band you would know
that Phils so called bands held up the release of new pantera albums
and tour dates. Good luck to you in the future with the attitude you have
there or maybe you still a kid and have some growing up to do.
you are just stubborn and use things like saying grow up to make me look bad then turn around and make the same type of remarks except try to sound mature. your problem is the same as a lot of people on here, you think it is ok to go around being ignorant and acting like you know when you dont and just presenting lies as truth is ok as long as you are nice about it. then you can get all high and mighty and toss around words like immature grow up or whatever has nothing to do with the main point. if you think down sounds like pantera in any way then i cant see you really appreciating either band. if you want to deprive yourself of down just so you can be a stubborn prick that is fine with me but trust me whenever you decide to end this pointless charade youll thank me:thumbsup:

Love peace and afro grease to ya.........but I still don't like Down.
And they don't sound like pantera thats why they were a mere
imitation (in my opinion) I saw it as him using panteras name to
sell it thats it. But hey man you like them and I have no
problem with that, its only music. The way this turned out you
think we was arguing over politics.....LOL
And how did my Hank III thread turn into a pantera debate:D
suhl we agree on a lot of things dude
and yabatab, we are in a big disagreement and I won't resort to name calling but to say that NOLA(my avatar) or any down material is a piece of shit is blasephemy. so down became a band soley because Phil was in pantera at the time? i'll give a little history lesson on down: Phil wrote lyrics and material for down as far back as 92'. the only reason these ideas came to fruition is because one day, during a break in pantera's, eyehategod's, and crowbar's touring schedule they all got together(because they were all friends as early back as high school) to jam soley for the purpose to hang out, make music, and enjoy each other's company. as it goes they wrote an entire demo over a weekend. they realized they had stumbled upon something very special and unique so they decided to record an album dedicated to new orleans (NOLA) and their love of black sabbath. after playing only 13 shows, word of mouth spread that this so called side project was something to check out and guess what: it sold HALF A MILLION COPIES worldwide. that to me is incredible considering they got no airplay and played only 13 shows. in other words: these guys didn't try to make down an awesome band, they did it without even trying. bands today can't do this with all the label support and air time in the world. why you ask? because they don't have .02% of heart that Phil, Jimmy, Kirk, Rex, and Pepper have. oh and to say that Down was the reason pantera split up is just wrong dude, pantera broke up because 1. tension between phil and dime and vinnie were growing because of phil's heroin addiction. 2. that motherfucker nathal gale murdered dimebag(insert flood outro here :sadcrying ). and 3 superjoint ritual was more important to phil than a pantera record. and btw down is so special to me I got "lifer" tattooed above my right ankle. :smokin:

The passion for music is strong and it is shitty when
someone comes along and calls a band you like crap.
Im just not a down fan and to debate what broke
pantera up is pointless really but in my opinion
Phils other bands he had going on did put a strain
on the structure of Pantera.
The argument that broke out over me calling down
and SJR pantera imitations was not what I intended.
I am sure there is bands I like that you wouldn't like
and I would have done the same thing and tried to
defend them.
All I can say is I am sorry for degrading some thing
you like.
