I work at a dollar store, and we have to listen to the shittiest music ever created all day long. Even after the store is closed and we're mopping up, we have to listen to it. It blows.

It's called "muzak". Basically, it's every song that is so bland, so devoid of all meaning, so not in-your-face, and so boring that nobody is going to object to it. There is no swearing, because some people are offended by that. There are no references to sex or drugs because there are people who, in their delusion, think that if we don't talk about them they will go away. There is no rock and roll because there still might be some old farts out there who think it's the devil's music. And most importantly, there are no messages to any of the songs that anybody could ever possibly disagree with. All the songs seem to center around the messages of "love is good" and "not loving is bad". This is a perfect recipe for the shittiest, blandest, least original "music" on the face of the planet.

And it's tolerated because people don't complain about it. They hear it so often that they just phase it out and don't even think about it. But when it's pounded into your head all fuckin day and you have to listen to the same shitty songs over and over it gets really fuckin annoying. Next time you hear this crap in a store, complain about it and demand that they put up some good music by people who have the balls to speak their mind and create original music. Then maybe we can put an end to muzak once and for all.

EDIT: Oops! Sorry, I put this in the wrong forum. Could a mod please move it to the Lounge or something?

Actually I remember hearing a Kiss song converted to MUSAK in an elevator once...lol

but seriously minimum wage isn't worth having your psyche bathed in that crap all day. Try to find a gig at a strip club or record store somewhere....or at least get them to switch to a jazz feed. There are devil messages in Musak ya know. Their trying to damn your soul with ennui!

I know, I'm looking for a better job, but at the moment my options are listening to that crap all day long or starving on the streets. And it's still a tough decision.
