Here are a few of my pix from Amsterdam, one of which is my avatar.

[attachment=o78768]

This is my purchase at the noon, very nice white widow spliff and a cup of tea for under 5 euro

[attachment=o78769]
this is the silver haze, my temporary glass and my new grinder from The Grasshopper. Expensive but good stuff. I'll be sticking to smaller coffeeshops when i go back next time though. The grasshopper is just too touristy.

[attachment=o78770]
yes ... this is just on the street .... hehehe ... pretty

[attachment=o78771]
and finally ... me .... i am amsterdam :) at 10 in the morning ... haha.

just thought I'd share some of my pix .... i loved amsterdam and can't wait to go back.

yeah, i love the grinder, it was 5 euro and a bit shoddy on the construction but i've never seen one like it in the states, especially for that price where prohibition prices brings all things herb related tend to be on the high end of the spectrum.

dude how much did your trip cost all together about?

well ... here's the part where everyone will hate me .... i've been studying in england for 5 weeks and I hopped over ... twice .... the plane tickets were about $300 from here .... roundtrip .... hostel the first time was 125 euro for the weekend the hotel the second time that I split with two other people was about $120 (3 star hotel with really comfy ass beds, it was nice) ... and then say $75 a day for running around money and I was there a total of 6 days over two weekends .... it was expensive, yes .. but well worth it ... looking at rates for my next trip (spring break with my girl I hope) it's going to cost us about $3000 for airfare and lodging for the week but that's the price for both of us so $1500 a piece ... and again that's staying in a nice hotel in the center of town .. .you can go cheaper by getting a hostel ... i didn't go very cheap either time i went ... a word of advice would be to plan way in advance. Hostels fill up fast, cheap airfare is usually obtainable a couple weeks (or months out) .. oh ... and for a cheap hotel lastminute.com. and if you're flying from anywhere in europe or the uk easyjet.com is what i used.

i hope that makes sense .... i'm a bit scatter brained at the moment.

so to sum up:

from London Gatwick my first weekend cost me about: $800
from London Gatwick my second weekend cost me about: $700

from the states it's going to cost me and my girl about: $3000 (travel and room only)

getting to get high legally off really good shit and walk around and experience amsterdam: Priceless.

Howdy Txmazda,

That's really cool man ! :D

Btw,I wouldn't recomend stayin at a hostel,after seeing the movie "Hostel"..I tell you what ! lol I think that everyone should watch that movie,if they plan on staying in a hostel,anywhere in Europe:thumbsup:

Especially if they're relatively naive,American tourists !

Have a good one !

Saying you shouldn't stay in a hostel because of a horror movie is like saying you shouldn't go swimming in the ocean because you just saw jaws or you should become a drug lord because you just saw scarface. A movie is just a movie, and if you know how to take care of your self you should be fine ....

but the hostel I stayed in wasn't bad, more of a 2 star hotel but I paid extra to get my own room .... but yeah ... i didn't see hostel because I was coming to study in the UK and travel to the EU .... but i've heard about it. I'm ready to go back to the states though, I miss Taco Bell ... and Arizona Green Tea .... and getting high with my girlfriend ..... ..... sorry .... i needed to share ....

Howdy Txmazda,

Lol..yeah..I know yer right..but..I still think that you ought to see it,because it is highly likely,that naive tourists can be taken advantage of and because a couple of the characters,acted like rude,spoiled brats from America..I believe that Americans should be on their best behaviour,when out of the country,that they should be like ambassadors and make America proud of em,instead of ashamed.

I hope that you do return home soon,safe and sound..take care out there !

Have a good one ! :stoned:

I've never lived in Amsterdam, and actually prefer The Hague - but in general, NL is a pretty cool place to live. Just do not be fooled into believing everyone is oh-so tolerant - there are the same biases all over the world.

I am not certain how visa etc works, and if it was even possible for an American to open a CS. Just be aware that weed is not legal in NL either, and opening a CS means you will be dealing with organized crime. As for a restaurant - if you or anyone else is ever in The Hague, check out "Scallywags" (tea room) in the center (Het Lint). Richard is British and started with the best tea room ever - and expanded with a restaurant and bistro. So it is possible! It's one of the places where I just immediately feel happy.

from what i understand the guys that opened Grey Area are american ... but that's just what i heard, so it could be wrong. I haven't truely thought about my plans yet, i'm still young and in college so i have time to get a business plan together ..... it probably would start as a restraunt though and hten expand from there. And i thought that I had heard somewhere that weed might not be legal in all of the netherlands but in Holland it is ... but i haven't seen the exact laws so i am in no way an expert. I had a good time though and that's all that matters i guess.

I'll deffinately have to go check out Scallywags the next time i'm in the NL though.

Nope, still not true. Holland does not really exist - you have the provinces South and North Holland, though. And the laws are the same all around. Each city has zoning restrictions for coffee shops, which is why especially cities close to the border to Germany have tried to move the coffee shops outside of the actual city - too many tourists just coming into the country to buy drugs. Amsterdam is more lenient about the zoning, I believe.

okay, well thanks for the information, just goes to show that there's more research to be done before I go dive into my great amsterdam dream ....
