To summarize it for anyone on dialup:

It looks like they are in the middle of a game of soccer and there is a little bit of dust being blown around and then it erupts into a full blown tornado! They have some shots of it in the sky and you can see the dust and objects being twirled about in the sky. Everyone freaks out and runs like I've never seen before.

How does this happen and is it possible in the US?

that definitely looks real... we call them dust devils
when me and pops were rollin through the desert... i have seen it happen...
that was in the middle of our road... made us lose traction for a second but nothing more...
