View Full Version : Lowryder UK Greenhouse Grow

I am about 1 month into a Lowryder grow from seed.
I purchased from Seedsman.com with excellent delivery (2 days) and great packaging. The Lowryders came in the Highbred.net packaging which is like a strong plastic which won't collapse or be crushed.
I actually had a good email/chat with the guy who runs the seedbank and he's a stand-up guy and nice chap to boot.
This was around the middle of June so this batch have had a month now. I have 2 girls for sure.
I was so impressed with the genetics that I ordered some more - this time going for a Lowryder/Santa Maria cross. These are currently in small pots and I have 7 or so doing fine. They are only 2 weeks old though.
Now this is why seedsman is so cool....
With my order I got some free Durban Skunk seeds - they are old stock so they sent me about 150.
No I'm not kidding.
Pics to follow

OK some pics of packaging and some close ups of the boys and girls showing how different they are - this will be of interest to some I guess as it was a new for me - this being my first grow.

Personally I think they are pretty big for Lowryders.
The two girls (shown together in 2nd pic) are about 12 and 14 inches tall. However we have had great weather - loads of sun for the fast few weeks so maybe they have just grown quick.
Do they looked stretched to you guys and girls in growland?
If they are stretching then I'm not sure what I can do about it as they are relying on the Sun - I can't bring it any closer :)
Anyway I wanted to post the close ups of the boys and girls because I had trouble finding a good picture myself. When they show though its obvious - even though this was my first grow I could tell after about 20 days.
Right now they are getting some early morning sun outside - back in the greenhouse later.

For anyone interested they are potted with B+Q standard compost (£2.99 cheap!) with Bar Cave Bat Guano mixed in. I picked up 2 kilos on ebay for £10.
I only give them filtered water - that's it.
No other ferts as I'm trying this one Organic

Some more piccies! I noticed the first pit of Pollen today :rasta:
First pic is of the Boys "Balls" easy to tell its a male.
The second pic shows the Pollen that has dropped
Is it too early to begin pollenating the girls? Last pic shows the girls

mate u know that they are males right, look on the midle pic, thats pollen!! you need to kill the males if you want for your girls to produce lots of resin. those are pollen balls, the are on a raized catalax. chop them now. i know its a hard thing to do but it has to be done man

I think he knows that, maybe he wants to get some seeds...
by the way guys, i'd like to get seeds from my little trees too... but only partially. is it possible to pollinate girls manually, ie some parts of the plant or fully one plant from the whole greenhouse (4-5 trees).
and doing this trick simply let one girl develop seeds meanwhile others in the same greenhous will grow only thier big buds?
or it is just my dream?

Ummm... he said in a post a couple above yours that he wants to pollinate the females. He wants the seeds. (as we all do heh). I'll be pollinating my own Lowryders this season as well. Probably every single female Lowryder is going to get done.
One thing that I'll be doing is getting a nice, soft bristle pain brush (new) and hand pollinate. I don't always trust mother nature to do what I need to have done. And without a decent breeze, I probably won't get as many seeds from the crop.
Good luck with your grow, it looks wonderful! So far I've planted 3 Lowryder seeds that all germinated, and last night did three more. I have them in an organic soil that is fairly coarse. As soon as I have some decent pics I'll start a jounal, until then they just look like little babies, not much to see :P

Thanks everyone :)
Yes I fully intend to pollenate them but I'm going to try something...
After nicking Sabrinaleena's paintbrush idea (thank you! that's brilliant) I'm going to try and manually pollenate just some of the plants buds.
At the moment I can see plenty of sites to pollenate. Counting individual clusters I have at least 8-12 areas on each female.
What I'm planning on is manually pollenating the lower ones and leaving the top main cola alone. That way (hopefully) I will get some seeded bud (as planned) and some sensi for testing purposes.
What I'm not 100% sure of is how "early" I can pollenate? If the white hairs are clearly sticking out (which they are - up to 1cm long) then I assume I can just transfer pollen on to them? I didn't know if they needed more time etc.
Once I have done this I was planning on bagging any remaining pollen (for storage just in case) and then chopping the males. I have another male on the way (10 days behind) so I could get more pollen later if needed.
I will try and get a pic soon so you can see the girls close up and see what I mean. They are barely a month old I can't believe how much they have grown in such a short time!!

OK the Pics
Pic 1 & 2 are examples of the sites I am pollenating
the 3rd and 4th pics are the areas I'm planning on leaving "sensi" e.g the Top part of the plant.
I figured if I pollenated the top then gravity might help nature along and I don't want that happening.
I am also pollenating with BOTH males as I think this might affect the genetics and keep the lowryder traits. Not 100% sure about this though.
Maybe I'm just pissing in the gene pool :p
Once I'm happy the job is done I will hack down the males - they are only just (from yesterday) beginning to drop pollen though.
Looking at the size of them (20 inches FFS!) I'm guessing the Sativa genetics are showing through :rasta:

I'm using bat Guano for ferts and I'm wondering if the plants need any extra nutes while flowering - e.g. Do they use up particular elements quickly N, P, K or Mg for example during flowering?
I should be able to source natural organic products for most situations - but annoyingly the highbred.net forum is down which was all about the lowryder so any advice would be welcome.
Maybe I'm just paranoid...

Very nice - thanks guys!
Its good to see the final harvested product in your pics.
I'm hoping for some 200 seeds or so but I would be happy with 100 as this is my first grow and I want to avoid buying seeds again next year (or over winter if I go indoor) and have plenty for some guerilla action...
and thanks Ithg - I will make sure I have some P on standby :)

I didn't top them no, but I might have to do something to them if they get bigger, might even try and train them sideways.

UK based, OK not cheap but as far as I can see - so far - excellent genetics.
The males (just chopped) were 24 and 28 inches (60-72 cm) they were getting out of hand.
Collected all the pollen sacks (drying now) so I can selectively pollenate my girls.
Hopefully I'll have some seeds from these big girls in 6 weeks or so tops!

All seeds germinated btw and I now have 3 females - 2 are kick ass big and one is still really small so I guess I got "lucky".
Problem is they are so freaking big that Stealth almost went out of the window...
My nosy neighbour was cutting his trees (and my fecking trees too!) and it was just lucky that 5 mins before I had cleared my girls and just chopped the males. He would have seen them for sure.
If they get *much* bigger then I might have to take them indoors!

OK here is an update.
The "Big Girl" is now over 24 inches (2 feet) I measured her earlier with my severe "ghetto" metal tape measure
The 3 pics are of the same Girl - One to show the whole thing then 2 close ups of the Top Cola and one lower node.

I think I must have got 2 that show really strong Sativa genetics and that's why they are so big and Lanky.
Will post a pic of the more developed Cola - hang on.....

OK these shots are from the smaller female, she actually seems to have more compact buds.
I think they have stretched a little in the Greenhouse but the sun we have been having has been great.
I still think it is good genetics as I have a 3rd female that is still only 8 inches tall and very thin. Planted only 1 week behind the others.
So I'm guessing its genetic and not my Uber-Gr0w-Skillz

OK I hit them with Neem Oil last night and this morning some of the leaves are burned. The lowryders will be fine I think (superficial damage) but the Santa Marias have taken a real beating.
Some of them have lost 50% of their leaves which are just wilted and yellow.
I'm a bit pissed off to be fair :(

Looking good man, make sure you keep those males away from those females 'cause you wouldn't want any accidental pollination :)
Males were "executed" at the weekend - may they Rest in Peace(s)

Haven't done any trimming yet other than removing some damaged leaves. I gave all my plants a dose of Neem oil and it burned the crap out of them  The Lowryders are pretty big though and could stand it - they lost maybe 5% of their leaf matter and I lost one small bud on a side branch. I count myself "lucky"
The girls have got some time to go yet (hell, they might be ready in 60 days as advertised!) probably a month - I just hope they don't get much bigger - for stealth!.
Males and Trim from males is useless though? Right?

OK now for some close up shots - I think I have a good mix of seeded buds (lower down) and Sensi (higher up)
As you can see there are lots of bud sites - not 1 main Cola - as I expected.

Thanx guys :) They are starting to smell now, a bit like bubblegum (no shit!) with a sort of sickly sweetness.
Also the buds are sticky to touch so..... harvest time soon...

OK Small problem. One of my girls has some mould, we had a few cooler days when it was wet
I cut off the offending bud (only small) but I'm wondering if I should be brutal and cut off the whole top bud.
In the pic you can see the mould area (real life this is 4mm or so) and above this is the top of the plant.
Should I chop off the top to be safe (2 weeks + from harvest) or leave it and hope the sun and dry weather kills the mould?
Or hose it with some anti-fungal agent? Anyone know an organic one

About the same, they were a month old when I could smell something - a bit spicy but it was more the leaves. The flowers smell like bubblegum :)

Low - anything from a few grams (not kidding) up to a record 98 grams - but I'm not sure the 98g was wet or after curing.
I was expecting maybe a 1/4 Oz from each one - didn't think they would get so big though ;)
