I'm still waiting on the verdict of "global warming". I was just reading the other day where they've found evidence that the north pole was once a tropical paradise. We may be facing another global climate shift whether we stop driving SUVs or not. Until they make up thier mind, I'm not too worried about it.

Global warming in my opinion is a myth. The earth has natural cycles just like cannabis. I watched a great show on the discovery channel once all about this. My numbers may be off a few years but that's ok. About 800-900 years ago the world was very prosperous. The average temperature worldwide was 7 degrees farenheit higher than it is today. Agriculture was thriving worldwide. Over the recorded history leading up to this point the average temp was rising till it reached this point. Just like now. Then around 1200-1300 A.D. we had what was known as the "dark ages". During this time the average temp worldwide plummeted to 11 degrees farenheit below what we have today. Almost a 20 degree drop!!!!!! There's even reports of the canals in Holland and Italy freezing solid!!!!! This was very bad time for humans, wildlife, and plants. Humans had to find new crops that could handle the harsh climate. And ever since then we've been slowly building back up. It's the same thing with tropical storms. People were all freaking out last year when there was so many hurricanes. If you look at recorded history again you'll find that in the Atlantic there's a pattern. About every 40 years or so there's a big increase in tropical storms then it dies down or returns to "normal" for another 40 years or so. It is my belief that this is simply how things work on this planet. I'll look up the name of that show and post a torrent if I can find it.
So all in all I really don't think we have anything to worry about we're not gonna have an ice age or climate shift any time soon. I'll end this with aconversation between Chet and Darrel on south park fromk the goobacks episode(They took our job).
Chet: Maybe we could cause more global warming and melt the polar ice caps and usher in a new ice age or something.
Darrel: How the hell is global warming gonna cause a new ice age?
Chet: Well, you know, the global warming could bring on like a climate shift or something.
Darrel: Chet you are a fucking retard you know that? Even if global warming was real, and all proven scientific data shows it isn't. It'd take millions of years for a climate shift to occur. You think an ice age can just happen all the sudden like?
Chet: Well I was just trying to be helpfull...
Darrel: Well help yourself to a fucking science book cause you're talking like a fucking retard. Now people come on think damnit we have to stop them they took our job!

Regardless if it is being caused by pollution, it's still essential that we stop putting poisons into our air.

Actually, if you paid any attention in science class, most recent studies say that global warming is real. now, weather it is a part of the earths natural cycle and weather it is a problem I dont know, but don't be a fucking retard.

Last year we had a record number of hurricanes. This year we had the warmest winter on record. Today half of my great state of New York is under water (turn on the news and see). Now that enough is proof that global warming is a real threat.

Please buddy, pay attention and turn on the news. West chester county and the city of Utica is under water. Scenectady city is flooding. Binghamton is flooding. Central new york is under water due to flooding from the Mohawk. Route 81 and route 88 are closed due to flooding, and I-90, which runs from buffalo to New york City, is closed due to the flooding. Thousands of people are evacuating their homes right now due to the flooding (We have family on their way to our house here in albany who had to leave their home). How much more do I have to say? Like i said, turn on the news.
Edit: Its not just new york, the entire fuckin north east is suffering flooding.

There are NO SCIENTIFIC, CONCRETE, PROVEN, FACTS that show the earth is gonna get so hot we won't be able to survive. As a matter of fact, there is more evidence showing that the Earth moves in cycles and this is part of it. Don't fall for that hysterical Liberal B.S.

I really love the fact that while your trying denying global warming, my basement is flooding from the worst non-hurricane rain storm in New york recorded history. If i had choose between some nutcase conservative brain-fried stoner who thinks woman who are forced to have abortions should be punished INSTEAD of the people forcing them to have, or the thousands of the smartest and most educated scientists in the world, i would go with the scientists.

LOL! GOD FORBID POOR NEW YORK had alot of hard rain!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It must be a conservative conspiracy or Rove's doing that brought this tragedy upon you.
You should also find out what a person believes and thinks before you run your mouth. I thought you funny liberals were all so tolerant and accepting??:o LOL.

There is indeed evidence that climactic events run in cycles, but there's also plenty of evidence that our plant is heating up as a result of greenhouse gases. The folks at NOAA and scientists who study core ice samples are just two of the many groups who can provide thousands of concrete, provable facts that back this up.
The fact that you try and make this a partisan matter is an indication of either your foolishness or lack of touch with reality. Folks on every side of the political aisle ought to be concerned about the future of our planet--even those like you who seem to be aligned with the insanity party.

I guess what makes this a partisan issue is the alignment of capitalism and religious detachment from the earth. It doesn't matter that the fabled God in Genesis said "be good stewards". As long as the earth is valued merely as a stage for interacting with a supreme being, then there's no accountability to what native americans, for example, preserved for centuries.
I'll take liberal over neo conservative entitlements...

It's actually good that people like Amsterdam are against global warming. It just shows how moronic and dumb the people who don't believe in global warming are. And Evil Karl Rove conspiracies? Wtf are you talking about man? By the way, i'm a moderate Libertarian, NOT a liberal Amsterdam (which is just another great example of the stupidity of far-right conservatives on how they brand everyone who does not share their views as liberal). Can't wait for the upcoming elections, it's gonna be great to get these assholes out of office and put in some real leadership (mabe Hilary Clinton?).
Also, Lay off the fox news Amsterdam

Who is far right? I am pro-choice and I support gay marriage??
I remember very clearly all the folks saying they couldn't wait for the election in '04 cause W was out. C an you recall the exact # OF VOTES w GOT? I think it was more than any other candidate in History.
Please run Hillary!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please, Please, Please. You must be kidding.:p
So all a person has to do is believe in Global Warming? Like the Easter Bunny? All I was saying was that there was NO SCIENTIFIC Proof!!! There are a million theories out there bot no facts. But I am sure you have it all figured out and everyone else dosent have a clue right? Intellectuals,,, I think not.lol:D

Of course the earth goes through natural climate change but we are accelerating these changes.
Climate change is with us. A decade ago, it was conjecture. Now the future is unfolding before our eyes. Canada's Inuit see it in disappearing Arctic ice and permafrost. The shantytown dwellers of Latin America and Southern Asia see it in lethal storms and floods. Europeans see it in disappearing glaciers, forest fires and fatal heat waves.
Scientists see it in tree rings, ancient coral and bubbles trapped in ice cores. These reveal that the world has not been as warm as it is now for a millennium or more. The three warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998; 19 of the warmest 20 since 1980. And Earth has probably never warmed as fast as in the past 30 years - a period when natural influences on global temperatures, such as solar cycles and volcanoes should have cooled us down.
“Recent warming coincides with rapid growth of human-made greenhouse gases'' - NASA
*Greenhouse gas emissions by the US reached their highest annual total on record in 2004.
:rasta:
*New international climate data show that 2005 is on track to be the hottest year on record, continuing a 25-year trend of rising global temperatures.
Recent scientific evidence shows that the greenhouse effect is being increased by release of certain gases to the atmosphere that cause the Earth's temperature to rise. This is called "global warming." Carbon dioxide (CO2) accounts for about 85 percent of greenhouse gases released in the U.S. CO2 emissions are largely due to the combustion of fossil fuels in electric power generation. Methane (CH4) emissions, which result from agricultural activities, landfills, and other sources, are the second largest contributor to greenhouse gases in the U.S.
Industrial applications such as foam production, refrigeration, dry cleaning, chemical manufacturing, and semiconductor manufacturing produce other greenhouse gas emissions such as hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Smelting of aluminum produces another greenhouse gas called perfluorinated compounds (PFCs). Emissions of NOx and VOC from automobile exhaust and industrial processes contribute to the formation of ground-level ozone or smog, also a greenhouse gas.
Health and Environmental Effects:
Greenhouse gas emissions could cause a 1.8 to 6.3° Fahrenheit rise in temperature during the next century, if atmospheric levels are not reduced. Although this change may appear small, it could produce extreme weather events, such as droughts and floods; threaten coastal resources and wetlands by raising sea level; and increase the risk of certain diseases by producing new breeding sites for pests and pathogens. Agricultural regions and woodlands are also susceptible to changes in climate that could result in increased insect populations and plant disease. This degradation of natural ecosystems could lead to reduced biological diversity.

considering the evidence at hand, i think even debating this is kind of silly. just look at these hurricanes, which will get much worse.
In terms of overall hurricane activity (number and intensity of storms), the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season was clearly the most active season on record...

My feeling is that humans will destroy themselves long before the earth is destroyed by environmental effects. No matter how it all ends, we deserve our fate.
We're afraid of everyone
Afraid of the sun
Isolation
The sun will never disappear
But the world may not have many years

The earth will never be destroyed by environmental effects. Only our ability to live on it without undue hardship will be affected.
Obviously, the earth's climate does cycle between hot and cold, so we're on that cycle already, somewhere. But even though that is true, that doesn't mean that the billions of pounds of crap we spew into our atmosphere do not affect the cycle, and perhaps dramatically so. If we're cooling things down (or slowing the speed with which we move into and through the hotter part of the 'natural' cycle), that's not so bad. If we're heating things up, however, which seems pretty probable to me, that will be seriously bad news, especially for those living on or near coastal areas which might end up underwater in a decade or ten, after those areas endure some pounding from hurricanes and tsunamis for a while before they are submerged. I certainly wouldn't be looking for real estate investment opportunities in Greenland.
This may just be nature's own human population self-regulating thing. Enough humans spewing garbage into the air makes the planet less hospitable for humans. People start dying. Eventually, enough people die that there just aren't enough people left around to do that kind of damage anymore, and things restabilize, and then we can start over breeding and polluting. If we don't solve the problem by regulating ourselves, nature takes over and starts regulating how many humans are able to survive at all. Tada, problem solved, one way or the other.

i agree, but my new philosophy is that if it gradually gets hotter we'll adapted through time. i dont have anything for the polar ice caps but i hope that will get figured out
