Hi all ...
was wondering when is the earliest i can start lst? My tallest plant is only like 2" and starting to grow its 2nd blade leaves so its quite lanky - is it too early to start low stress training?

grtz.

Hi s12fever,

Maybe I'm a little slow but what kind of training are you talking about? So your plant is lanky? Doesn't sound like a lot of light being used.

Hi Loco,
you're absolutly right... at the moment I only have an 80w flo tube (4ft) in my growspace. I have another one that needs assembling (said to myself i'll get aroudn to putting it together 2nite!) and a 4-light ceiling/wall light on a single base coming in the mail which i should get tomorrow for sure - and have already bought the 4 20w CFL bulbs for that...

3 of my plants look like they're doing fine, starting to thicken out a bit... 2 others are smallish and have small burns on a small amount of their first leaves (I think it was from feeding them too early...have taken out the food since i noticed it) and the other looks just about dead... leaves drooping and look quite crusty...not too sure what that might be, my brother says it might be from overwatering, so i've skipped it for a few days...

LST is tieing your plants down gentley horitontally to the soil, apparently produces faster growth in the leaves?

grtz.

whenever you want m8.
a technique that i was trying to get the hang of until i got busted was to make a screen attached to the box, not very high at all & just keep bending down the plant so it's lower than the screen. scrog but the screen is really really low.

sounds nice man.
i would say that you can start LSTing as soon as your plant starts getting higher than you want it to... mine is just sprouting its fourth node at about 3/12" and i wont let it get any higher than 6"..
in order to keep it down (and promote leaf growth), im just going to place my pot in a stationary place, and bend the plant to one direction by the top, and tie it down to screen. Then, as the plant grows, you keep it growing horizontally by letting grow sideways in one direction. Just keep tying it to the screen.
peace

the point of LST is to keep the fan leaves from blocking light to the secondary growth, thus increasing yield, (mainly during flower). also to save space. I would prob. recommend to LST once you see the fan leaves are obstructing light to the secondary growth. It also helps the secondaries grow faster, so you can cut ur clones sooner.

Ok,Now we are getting some where. For how old your plants are im not saying you did somthing wrong but somthing just isnt working.I think you should move that fluorescent about 1/2 inch away from the plants .And to me i would not LST untill i had alternating nodes.

Not trying to hijack your thread but here is a picture of my plants at about 15 days old the first plant i started a little LST at day 11 and the one towards the wall i didnt do nothing .If you have any qustions ill be happy to answer. Also im using those 4 ft shop lights just like you but i got 3 .

If it was me yes,Also i would fill the pots up with more soil and cover most of the stem up so it wont be so lanky .Also what kind of soil are you useing (good soil will make a diffrence like night and day.)

Yes get more light in there ,Also the first 2 -3 inchs of each tube does not put off any useable light

wow, definately dont have to LST that early. I;m surprised how small your plants are for their age... more light is absolutely necessary if you want to get anywhere.
