Hey ive been growing outdoors for a long time now but due to green harvest being alot more strict i had to move everything inside, well i just started germinating another batch, my question is can i veg the plants outside and then flower them under a hps light indoors? also if i have 15 10" pots side by side 3x5 how big of a light do i need? can i get away with a 400w or should i get a 600w or a 1000w?

Go for the 1000 hortilux eye. I use it in a 3 x 4 on 12 plants. You can veg outside but that's alot of work.

Save yourself all the work like LOC says.Do the whole thing indoors. Can you see yourself having to tote all those into a room.If they are sitting there already,Then ya flip tha swith on'em.You will have more time to yourself if you keep them in a controled environment. They are gonna get way way bigger outside than indoors.your room won't be enuff. Not to mention a 400 or even a 1000 would do them justice after being outdoors.

okay well what do you suggest? cause i have a area that is 10'x10' but it also is a storage area how big of a area would i need to veg 15 plants under cfls? would a 3'x3' do it? and could i do it with cfls? right now the plants just started showing thier bottom leaves and i have them under 24/0 cfl but they are in peat pellets and in a 12"x12" pan. Sorry this is all new to me, by now i wouldve transfered them outside.

vegging room should be 1/4-1/3 the size of flower room.
I start under cfl's or tube fluoro's, then veg under either a 400w MH or a 1000w MH, depending on time of year and growsize.

flower room, good info above...1000w eye Hortilux hps

If you have 10x10 room, I would split it up 6'-7'x10' for flower room, and use the other 3'-4'x10' feet like this...I would make a little enclosed propagation box, under workbench type table, I would store and mix nutes on. That way I could keep everything neat and my clones/seedlings away, out of the big lights...due to all the different photoperiods, then design the rest with vegging in mind. I'm getting tired...let me know if this makes sense to you.

haha it makes sense latewood but the only problem is that i need some space for storage so actually i have like a room that is 10'x5'x8' i plan on doing 15 plants and having 15 flowering and 15 vegging so i can keep cycling them so i dont really have a slow season. Even though im growing way less then what i used to outdoors, since i control the light/humidity/temp/etc and cycle my plants i think this will be better for me. But anyways do you think maybe a 5x4' for flowering and a 5x3' for vegging?

latewood
06-13-2006, 08:21 AM
yeah...make yourself comfortable. that is the key. remember that vegging plants take up much less space.

I think I would split it more like...6x4, and 4x3 that works out perfectly 2/3 to 1/3

whadaya think? gotta smoke a bowl...

ya that sounds like a plan, i think im going to make the veg box 4x3x3 and store stuff on top of the box, that should give me more room, also do you know where i can find a good 1000w system? Awhile ago i bought the 400w one of ebay with the hood and everything for only 110.00 but, i sold that and now trying to find a deal on a new system, the 1000w goes for 105 on ebay but doesnt come with a bulb or a hood.

I, personally buy the ballast kits...a ballast box and the hortilux 1000hps...or, they have their own light systems now, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy them...

another option is ebay...seedstarting>growlights is your search...people are always selling raw ballasts and used 1000w lamps...also; I would not shy away from a great deal on 1000w MH either...that is why I have 2

regardless of peoples opinions; There is nothing wrong with a MH for flower...1000watts is 1000watts. the only thing is, the MH has about 30,000 lumens output, than an hps...but keep in mind...that is still alot more than 400w...
and they make great MH bulbs with enhanced red spectrum.

And God forbid, you could afford, The Hortilux Blue 1000w MH bulb...that is the shit...alot say better than the 1000w horti hps...but It costs $200 bucks...:( so, I still don't have one. lw

okay well i think im going to get the ballast, igniter, capacitor, mogul socket off of ebay and going to buy the bulb and hood locally (because i live in hawaii and to ship big things cost a lot)

400 watt was a bit for my taste in our bath tub. It was to hot, so im using
250 watt metal halide

It is so interesting to see how different circumstances cause people to do completely different things, in the same situation.
Back in the day, I used a 400wMH and a 250whps in my shower, and had no heat problem...lol, isn't that wierd?

Ga GrownI totally agree with GaG on this one,

but...If you are mechanically inclined, My step by step DIY pictorial for a 1000w hps is in the growfaqs.

ooo sorry i didnt reply earlier, but outdoors the flowering time depended on the season roughly if i planted it now it would bloom around october. also the molokai frost has a kinda harsh taste but is strong imo. Also the plants grew to about 4 1/2' but this was all outdoors too remind you. Got roughly 2-3oz per plant.

FYI, its a Red Eye Hortilux, as in Red Eye Head shops. You need to start reading LW.

mite be a little late, but on ebay, in I bought a ballast that takes 250, 400, 600 watt HPS/MH. you mite be able to get something similar for 1000 and 400, then youd only need 1 light. just a thought

I have 400 watt red eyes and they are the bomb,if used with a bit of white or blue light, you complete your spectrum! 78.00 bucks for the red eyes.Free after that if ya get my drift! Red Eyes!

hello,

vegging outside and then moving the plants inside for flowering is a great idea and I do not see it as being to much work to move 15 pots... growing a plant outside under full sunlight will produce much closer nodal growth..
indoor growing can not compare...

if you decide to transition from outside to inside you should most definitley get a 1000 watt hps and have proper ventilation so that you can get the light as close as possible while still maintaining a light foot print that covers all your plants... should be about 12-16 inches...

Well the outside to inside thing is a no go, my nieghbor just got busted and he was only growing 4 plants. I just built a box that is 2x3' with 12 6" pots that fit nicely in there, there is 160 watts total of cfl with a lumens of 8400lumens. The temperature is average 90* and 60% humidity, Right now i have 12 plants growing and one just started to show its second node. Also how do you guys water your plants? I usually used a spray bottle, but now i really have no room to spray it good. And one more thing, with this whole indoor thing I can control the flowering right? But I am starting these from a seed so shouldn't they need to mature first? Like maybe 5 weeks vegging and 8 weeks flowering? Anyways I decided to order 2x 400w hps lights I setup my flowering room with a irrigation system so i can water the plants and it will drip outside my grow room, This is in a 6x3' area using 12" pots, height isn't an issue as i have 10' up to go. Anyways if anyone can give me some pointers on how you guys give your nute schedule and so forth that would be awesome, i've been growing outdoors my whole time so this is all brand new to me.

My 2 cents:

Yes you can veg outside and bring them in. You can use any light for veg. You can also veg inside then take them out.

In a space that size I would think 2 600 watters or 1 1000 watt should be good.

Apparently he thinks it was green harvest(swat) when they were doing thier fly bys, but I think he got narced on. Anyways I know im still kinda sketchy on doing this in my home but I dont think it would be too suspicious in the area im growing them in.

You can use any light for veg
sorry dude but i have to disagree slighthly
yeah most lights ya will be able to veg with (but not incandesant bulbs) they only make a plant stretch a lot
cheers all :)

Hey, I read a thread on here awhile ago where a guy knew the part number for a 400w hps system that you could get on home depot, I'm trying to find this cause the guys i was going to order from is currently back stocked and I dont want to chance waiting.

You'll be fine as long as you don't run your mouth about it.
Don't tell anyone.
Or you could get robbed or narced on.
If you think you could get away with it and still tell people .your wrong.

What I meant was: You can use any light for veg. Of course HID is best, but any light will make your plant survive and grow. The important thing is the flowering period. You don't even need ANY light for veg. You can gow straight from clone to flower.
