View Full Version : THC Degredation of Flowering Plants.

Question for anyone who knows..

Is the browning of stigmas (hairs, pistils, ect) and THC loss late in the flowering period due to the actual AGE and EXPOSURE of the THC to the surrounding environment, or is it due to the plant's life coming to an end?

(simple-ese: will the resin glands stay on my plants without losing potency as long as my plant is alive? or will they just degrade and brown and fall off until I flower again?)

The reason I ask is I had 3 plants in flowering, chopped one and decided to put the other two back into the vegetative state.

The reason being for this is both of the plants have lost a lot of foliage due to an underwatering issue awhile back, as well as have a few PH problems I'm addressing right now. (close call, the main stem was beginning to purple)

I plan on growing these out while starting a few little ones to join them and then just flowering the lot of them.

Thanks!

The way I understand it, the drying up and shriviling of everything is a natural part of the plant. I've read if the flower (bud) looks pale, it's healthy.

You mentioned your plants lost a lot of foilage.... If it's near to say the half way point of flowering... Depending on strain, light, temp, age, etc. it may be normal for it to loose many of it's leaves. If the flowers are forming into nice buds, keep growing them. Look for about 70% of the bud to change in color. Use a scope to veiw the progresson of change in color in the trichomes. If you can't get hold of a way to see the trichomes, you'll have to use do it by eye... At least get a good magnifying glass and look them over every day if possible.

No, plants normally develop dark red pistils near the end of the flowering stage..the only way to be for sure is get a magnifying glass and look at the trichomes, if most are amber then I think this means that the THC has past their peak point...which means the THC has been degraded.

You need a Mgnifying lens with a light at the end. So you can look at the thrichomes up close. When it starts to turn amber thats when it is getting old. And starting to break down. This doesn't happen till harvest time.
Red hairs threw out flowering is normal. Not a whole lot. But some.

I have a 30x, checking the trichomes definitely will not be an issue. As far as keeping them in flower, I've already switched the schedule and one plant is looking like HELL. Looking at her yesterday (she's a bit odd, wrong light schedule as a seedling so she's smaller than the other) it looks like she's rootbound and she also needs some oxygen to her roots.

I need to transplant her today and see what I can do, take a look at her root system, ect. She's been in the same pot for going on 3 months now so anyway..

The buds that I have on the plants now in veg stage shouldn't deteriorate, that's good to hear!

Exactly what I wanted.

From the things that I have read:

Harvest clear - You get a clear, more able to think and function stone.
Harvest cloudy - You get a normal stone.
Harvest amber - You get a narcotic, couch lock stone.

The best think to do is to have a batch harvested clear, for tring to work or something while you are high, and a batch amber for when you really just want to watch TV, or maybe as a sleep aid. Or harvest some of your grow earlier than the rest. Experiment to see what you like.

Opie, bro. I love your sig. :D

I've got some crazy bud/veg growth going on right now on my healthier plant, it looks interesting to say the least.
