Well im getting 3 free 400 watt hps lights because they were stolen and my friend can't hold any hot items in his house anymore...
So i was wondering, why do people use weak lights during veg, then stronger lights during flowering?..
Is that a must?.. Can i just use a HPS for the whole grow?...
Thanks..

mh for veg, hps for flower.mh emits a different spectrum of light that causes the plant to grow short and bushy which is what u want for veg and hps will flower quicker and u will get a lot better yield it also causes plants to stretch creating more room for bud growth

oh and u can use a hps for the whole grow but ur plants may stretch slightly in the vegging process im not sure if thats all right so if any one can clarify thatd be great
Well, i cant belive im saying this, but dopeman420 is right.
You can use them if you have nothing else for the whole grow.
People normally use CFL's/Mh's during veg because they have a bluer spectrum which is for vegative growth, HPS has a red spectrum for flowering.
And CFL's can do just a good a job as any MH, so they are not weak lighting.

But how come the jump in wattage, like from 400W MH to a 600 or 1000W Hps?

if i buy it then it's not stolen, it's not my problem it rests on the shoulders of the person who stole it. I mean you get a hotdog and soda from a stand in a park, how do YOU knwo that the soda case was not stolen??? Just a thought

Buying stolen goods and KNOWING its stolen... like you do now... is just as bad as stealing it yourself...
Yeah, but if its there take it ;)

i agree slightly the worst that could happen is if ya get cault you would face charges of handling stolen goods
but then again if ya room is stealthy ya havent got out to worry about
cheers all :)

Just my two cents?
Non-growers reading this... anti-marijuana people reading this... now have more "ammo" for their fight.
"Growers steal stuff."

As far as risk...wouldn't confiscation of stolen HPS bulbs by any means prompt authorities to question whether they're linked to a grow operation, most likely illegal? Sounds like enough for probable cause and a warrant if you ask me.
And no, despite my handle, I'm not a narc.
As far as HPS for entire grow, mine grew taller with HPS, but bushier with a MH conversion bulb, both at about the same rate. HPS, slightly faster results.

yeah but i mean if you have extras laying around the house then yeah you can say someone stole those, why else have extras laying around but if you're using then say you paid cash for them and you would be using them not many people keep reciepts
my 2 cents

You ripped off a fellow grower and you are asking us to help you?
Please correct me if I am wrong but you said they were stolen lights, so where did you steal them?
A fellow grower maybe?

He stole the lights outside of a building because they were putting new ones in for your invalid info, get facts before you try to argue..
When did i once say "I" stole them?..
reading is a great skill when you know how to use it.. -.-

You did not say you did not steal them either you only said he could not hid stoled items any longer. That tells me you guys are rip off crooks and not to be trusted.
You have no honor and bad karma will follow you and those lights. :(
