read that and to a search for topping and LST (low stress training)

Who told you that?? Anyways... If you want a plant to be about 3 or 4 foot tall before you harvest then plant it in about july. It'll have a month or 2 to grow then it will flower and grow it be 3-4ft. If you top it only take the very newest set of leaves. You only want it to stop growing up and more out.

THE 30% RULE:

Never modify a plant in any way that causes more than 30% of the plant to be either healing from cuttings or severe training, at one time. Move the plant in stages and take only cuttings that allow two thirds of the plant to remain UNTOUCHED until the third you modified is healthy and growing normal again.

Thats how you prevent hermies or total sex change.

I'm really unfamiliar with topping. When you say "cutting" do you actually cutting of the top nodes or just slicing down the middle? If slicing it, how deep should I go?

Thanks!

No offense bro, but if you don't really know what you're talking about, then don't give misleading info. :)

I topped this (pic) at 4 weeks of life, from seed, when it was no more than .5ft in height. Turned out to be one, small, potent female.

BTW, I topped this girl, but as you can see, the plant didn't react well to the cut and didn't split into 2 tops, like it should, but it did give more energy to the side branches.

Tie down the branches, top your plants. That's your best bet on good yeild and keeping things short. Also, try and get an Indica dom. strain as they grow short and thick, unlike Sativas that grow tall.

Topping is very easy to do, but should be done with razor sharp snips for an accurate cut.

You want to cut off the emerging growth shoots. You want to cut off about 80% of the emerging growth shoots, leaving the 20% in tact. Just snip the top of the plant.

What that does is it gives more energy to the side branches, and instead of one main cola, it should split off into 2 more colas. Doubling your yeild right there. Hope this helps. :)

A picture of exactly where you cutt the plant would be really helpful. I know its just below the node on the top shute but i would really like to see a pic.

I agree, could you use these pics of my plant to denote where exactly I should cut it at?

When you top a plant can you use that as a clone?

You can use the top and make a clone,I've done it before, also I always top my plants,I just recently harvested a plant that had almost 40 to 50 tops,no shit.I top my seedlings first, after the second set of leaves develope, and I have a trick to where the main stalk still remains. So instead of the usual two split tops,I have three.I then top those three, which makes six,and so on.The plant turns in to a little bush, and grows outward instead of growing tall.my plant was only 2 and a half foot tall with that many tops.but, she was wide as hell.I have a new plant that I'm applying this tecnique to.I really need to get a digital camera so I can post the pics.Another thing is the stem gets really thick, and the plant is more hardy.A hurricane couldn't even budge them.I always top my plants.I can't remeber the last untopped plant I grew.Topping is the way to go.It really does increase yeild. So,everbody top those girls, not once but multiple times, and watch what happens.PEACE

It's not like that bro. I used your advice to top it that same day. I just posted this for deridder. I guess I could've just linked him to my other post but I didn't even think about doing that.

Sorry you think I didn't like your advice but in fact you were the only one that actually helped me figure it out.
