Who told you that?? Anyways... If you want a plant to be about 3 or 4 foot tall before you harvest then plant it in about july. It'll have a month or 2 to grow then it will flower and grow it be 3-4ft. If you top it only take the very newest set of leaves. You only want it to stop growing up and more out.

THE 30% RULE:
Never modify a plant in any way that causes more than 30% of the plant to be either healing from cuttings or severe training, at one time. Move the plant in stages and take only cuttings that allow two thirds of the plant to remain UNTOUCHED until the third you modified is healthy and growing normal again.
Thats how you prevent hermies or total sex change.

I'm really unfamiliar with topping. When you say "cutting" do you actually cutting of the top nodes or just slicing down the middle? If slicing it, how deep should I go?
Thanks!

No offense bro, but if you don't really know what you're talking about, then don't give misleading info.

BTW, I topped this girl, but as you can see, the plant didn't react well to the cut and didn't split into 2 tops, like it should, but it did give more energy to the side branches.
Tie down the branches, top your plants. That's your best bet on good yeild and keeping things short. Also, try and get an Indica dom. strain as they grow short and thick, unlike Sativas that grow tall.
