Ok having read up i'm starting my first grow, 12 Ice planets in a NFT hydroponics growtent.
First up, here's the setup ;)

Here's a pic of the lot under a UV light, had the HD bulb on for the shot but it was off the rest of the time...

Currently sitting under a 600w HD lightbulb 2.5 feet above. One plant has grown slowly, one is a little too stretched but the rest are about as you would expect, Ice seems to naturally stretch IMO.

Temps. a little high as the fan has broken :( Humidity is only 10-20% is this going to cause me big probs? Should I get a humidifier in there?
Im not sure about nutrients, I have Forumulex should I put a 1/4 mixture into the water for the plants to suck up too?

Well your humidity is extremely low. Get some clear plastic cups od half of a 2 liter and put them over the seedlings to act as humidomes

You should watch out for Alga it will grow on the rockwool cubes from the water and light. You need to have a gentle fan moving the air around your plants to strength up the stocks. Thick stocks allow for more nutrient up take when it's time to feed them nutrients.
I hope you are not feeding then yet?
Nope not feeding them yet, the leaves are growing big, worried they're starting to look a bit droopy?

Wooden Popsicle sticks work to prop them up. As well as coffee stirs work too plastic or wood. It will keep then standing straight until the stocks thicken up.
They're all Femanized seeds btw.

Don't use Wood popsicle sticks. They tend to rot from the dampness. Bamboo works great, plastic as well.
I agree with Z man as you should start air movement w/ a fan.
REALLY try to get yer humidity up, especially durring veg.
I would also like ta see pics of the ice. Also, when yer done, can ya post how good it smokes? And yer weight? I've only seen it on the web and none of my "buds" have tried it before...

I have wanted to get some Ice for awhile...very interested in this thread...
You say your getting the droops...What is your feeding schedule?
Also, you are right not to nute them until you see roots growing strongly out of r'woll cubes. then use no more than a 50% solution the 1st week.
As far as algae; Get some panda plastic at the hydro store and put black side down after cutting slits in plastic to allow you to slide it in around the stems of your plants.
you don't ever want to leave your roots exposed to light.

I've put a black cover over the seedlings to stop any light getting to they're roots. My humidiity is still very high, even with the bowls of water i've placed on the tables and a damp towel hanging in the tent also.
Seems nothing short of getting a humidifier will do the job :/
A few plants are drooping a little, though I might have over-watered them a little. Since the temp and humidity is so high they have been drying out so i've been dipping the bottom of the rockwool block in 5.5 water for them to absorb. Not too much though, most of them are looking great and firm with good colour.
Most of my probs are temp and humidity I believe.
Not feeding them yet, was going to give it another week...?

Don't use Wood popsicle sticks.
Dude there is no way in hell they would rot or cause problems. They are only used for about 2 weeks. Rotting takes several months not day's.
Popsicle sticks are fine for the short term you will need them.
Keep thinks in perspective MrGuy you over reacted. What lead you to think they would be used for the whole grow? Because I did not post a time limit? Common sense goes a long way even in forums.
I'm not going to be able to get my hands on a humidifier for a week or so, I was wondering, if I put the whole NFT system up and running then the running water will raise the humidity and lower the temp a little?
Not with nutrients but just with php water, or would that drown them too much? I have liquid oxygen...

you just stated high humidity over and over...didn't you mean low humidity? high humidity would be hot/damp; Not hot/dry

Yeah I meant low humidity. 10-20% low.
I have a Systemair fan and Carbon Filter I have put on, plus a fan going well in there. The room itself is pretty chilly with a good breeze through an open window. (The tent is usually zipped up though)
Temp under the light is 90degrees, at the top of the tent its 79.

cut-off the carbon filter, and it should not be inside your grow room, but outside. you don't need it until they start to stink up the place during 12/12. It could be removing humidity.
what is systemaire? could it be removing humidity.
With a tent and hydro, It is unusual to see that low of humidity...at least in my experience.
right now i've got the systemair fan sucking the air THROUGH the filter and blowing it out through a long piece of ducting. Should it be sucking the air through the fan and blowing it OUT of the filter? :s

sorry, I mis-directed you above...I said carbon filter should be outside room. Well not necessarily; I was thinking of Ozonator and mis-spoke myself sorry.
As far as your Q about running entire system. I thought you mentioned something about setting up entire system and running water through it to create more humidity.
I said, that was a good idea

If you have roots, you can put them in system. your only concern would be if you fed them too strong a nutrient solution.
If you want to place them in system, running ph'd water and superthrive 1/4tsp per gallon or Liquid karma, follow direction's for seedlings; You will be OK.
Im about to put the young ones in the nft system and turn the pumps on. Should I stick to just 5.5 water or put Formulex to make it upto 12? Or put none in at all?
They're 2 weeks old, most of the plants are looking healthy, that one is looking a bit droopy and there is a runt in the bot left corner i'm going to see what happens with it.

It looks like a product for seedlings 10ml per gallon. I think it would be OK
You can try it. you know you are just starting, and you have to learn your own products. If you have doubts, then; Start with 5ml per gallon for a week, unless you know someone that has used this product and knows it works.
after a week, if your plants have good roots growth/look good and strong, go to your veg nutes...What are you going to use?

Bloom does say its for veg and flowering use, its what was recommended i think its all i have.

Ok...Here is the thing/s
1. If you grow from seed/seedling/veg/bloom; You need the grow.
B. :) If you grow MUM, take cuttings/root'em/veg 2 weeks/flower to maturity. You don't need the grow.
Because clones take on the age of their mother and are generally flowered fast and in quantity, they are flowered at a lower height 12-18" maximum...the Nitrogen in the Bloom 5- is enough. Hope this helps. lw

Have moved all plants into NFT system with 5ml per gallon of Formulex, ph'd at 5.5. Also put 15ml of liquid oxygen into the tank. (Total tank=9 gallons)
All working well, have lowered the lights a little bit more and they're all currently looking pritty good and healthy.
Hoping to pickup a humidifier today, so far so good.

Since I've put the NFT system on the plants have shown some good growth, I'm slightly worried that the leaves seem to be developing a yellowish tint, at the tips and edges. I've heard this could be a few different things, I dont think it's overwatering (since its in the nft system i hope not)
Each of my tanks are 9 gallons, I have a CF reading of 6, a ph of 5.5 and have placed a little oxygen in the tank a few days ago.

maybe it was just a little too early for the neuts, 1 day on the plants seem to have gone a lusher green now and have increased in size a good bit.
Humidity has gone up all by itself from 10-20 to average of 35-46, temp. is still high at an average of 32c.

Kahn you do know you are still in the seedling stage? No food or atleast very week food at this cycle. Once you have a few good healthy leaves formed you can start to feed then with a week food say about 400ppm of a good NPK mix.

Pretty basic, fan and carbon filter at the top of the tent, piping going to an extractor vent in the room. There are holes at the bottom of the tent for cables etc.

Basicly there is a constant flow of water (nutes) pumped from a ?? gallon container into a slightly sloped tray, the rockwool cubes are sat on the tray and the water flows across the bottom of the tray constently feeding .Weed seems to love this grow method if you havent tried NFT do so you wont be dissapointed :thumbsup: :stoned:

is this ICE from nirvana or FEMALE seeds? if its from Nirvana that i hope the tent is tall. i am growing ICE from nirvana right now, and i veg them for a month about the same thickness and height as yours, day 56 of flower they are no where near done probably another month, and they have grown 4 feet during that 56 days. i havent smoked any of it yet but hear great things. i also hear great things on the yield as well, some cat pulled 14 zips from two plants doing a scrog with a 400w lam. good luck to you

They're ICE Female seeds, glad to hear from someone else growing this strain it's hard to get any good information and pics from the net.
Sounds like they're getting pretty big, mine are certainly shooting up I hope they dont get too tall. Glad to hear about the yield ;)

just read your thread from the start and ive noticed you have the same set up as me, i really like using nft cos its so easy to use, but ive noticed that on one of my trays in my flower room, where the solution flows onto the tray my roots are starting to turn brown. ive got plenty of oxygen in there as well as liquid oxygen so i no it cant have any thing to do with that. i was just wondering if you have every had this problem with your trays, hope u can help cos i cant think of why my roots are doing this.

Cant help too much this is my first grow so not much exp. I cant check my tray atm because they're sleeping but i'll have a look tomorrow see if any of mine are.
Light kills the roots, I have only sneaked a peak out of the corners twice to check the nutrient is going in ok is there any chance light could have hit them?
I read a thread about roots dying it said put some liquid oxygen in there and take off the dead root matter, maybe the oxygen is stopping more developing for you but the dead roots are still there maybe infecting surrounding matter.

good job Khan, If you want a real good enzyme for your roots, I use Hygrozyme, and I do notice a difference. lw
Tell me more LW why do I need it what does it do?
Had a read about it, breaks down old root matter making room for new growth but when would I use it? does it make a real difference?

Notice from pictures 2 days ago i managed to level out the plants. The light was too far on one side and they were uneven, putting the light a little to the side for 24 hours worth of light did the job. Now its dead central.
If you look at the first page there is a very very small plant, i said it was retarded but now it's one of the biggest with good looking form, so never give up on those little buggers!
I have a few leaf problems though, there are brown spots (I believe to be fert burn) appearing on 1 or 2 of the leaves (a small %). But my main worry is that the edge of the leaves are curling over... could this be too high humidity in the 12 of dark?

Hey Khan, for your first time this is not bad.
Ice is a very reliable strain for a start, and it has such a nice smoke.
Cheers mate, and dont forget to stay ontop of that pruning ;).
p.s. you could probably have a very badass monthly cycle of plants if you wanted to clone and use as mother in different room.

Hey, Khan,
Who is the breeder of the ICE?
It looks like it's going to get crowded in there very soon. Are you going to do a SCROG? If not, I'd suggest next time to only grow 1 or 2 plants. Sometimes having many plants in a small space will actually hurt your total yield, compared to only growing a couple of plants in the same size space.
In any event, your plants look great! Keep up the good work. You are going to be amazed by the wonders of growing your own weed.

whats up Khan, i am growing ice 2000 in soil now. out of all my different plants ( aurora indica, k2, nebula) ice 2000 is growing the best.

Damn looks like I got a male, it's the only one that's got cahoonas so I'm pretty sure it's a male. It's got balls where as the others have the white hairs starting.
Since it's an NFT system should I rip it out of there? The roots must be all entagled in there?
Or should I remove the balls from the plant? I read that somewhere too....

:(Just take a big pair of snips and chomp it off right above top of system...no harm will come if you leaves the roots entangled in with the other females for the rest of your grow.
I had the same thing happen back in the day...
when I had pre-sexed plants in same unit.

Snipped it just above the bottom of the stem and took it out. It was in very early stages just very small balls appeared overnight so no damage done hopefully.
More room now for surrounding plants at least, plenty of new budding branches tookup the space in no-time.
Carefully checked everyone of the others, all the rest are female at least.

Yep definately male, it was totally different from the others with those balls there. The rest of the plants have white hairs sprouting from every branch now :D
It did say that Ice is 90% stable female, I suppose with 12 plants I was due 1 male plant. :(
Still, more room for the others.

khan hope you dont mind me sharing my ice 2000 grow with you on your thread. just tied it down lastnight. 14 shoots are getting direct light now. hope its a female cause it will be some major bud sites.
Not at all bro, your stems are looking booming, better than mine were at that age. Good looking leaves too.
Ice seems to produce ALOT of budding branches, strong ones too. I wish I had a good digital picture i'll get hold of one this week if I can.
Just done alot of pruning again yesterday, the buds are starting to form well now there are SOOOO many of them, the smell is unbelievable!!
In 2 days time I'm due to put in the PK 13-14 and canna's Boost Accelerator, i've been offered the use of a 1000w HPS too do you think that would be a good time to put the light in?
My plants are getting really tall, they're getting a little bit of burn where the plants are condensating. I've put the light up but it wont go much further up the tent......
Day 63. Flower Day 22.
Well they're as tall as they're going to get. Good thick stems and lots of flowers forming.
I've been tiying the leaves down and pruning where necessary to make sure enough light gets into the middle. Will be putting the 1k HPS this week sometime.
I dont have a good enough camera to get good pictures in at the moment, pics to follow soon.

this is your first grow? Amazing man.
Im gonna start a NFT System off in a couple of months with just two to four plants and your thread is great man, its good too see constant pics throughout the grow cycle.
Couple of questions
Have u noticed the amount of electricity rise?
Did u start of i rockwool or other medium?

Not really much rise in electricity. I hear the light is the same as a computer system anyway. I've tried to keep all other lights off now when i used to just leave them on everywhere so its prob. made me more economical :)
I planted the seeds in small rockwool tabs which I then put straight into the larger rockwool cubes when the roots started coming through.
Just make sure you take your time and plan everything out, starting low and increasing is good moto when it comes to nutrients etc.

killer khan you got it going on bro, keep up thee good work. if your plants are getting to close to the light , just bend her. i remember when i was growing the big bud, i couldnt raise the light anymore and it was 6ft. so i just bent her to get more time. but over time she just grew past the lights lol. had to add 125w cfl in there as well.

Where did u get your tent? and what size is it?
I notice you have your carbon filter on the inside. I've seen others have it on the outside, which is right?
Have you had any problems with the lovely smell escaping and letting neighbours know of your grow?? I only ask this as im in the top flat of three flats and im planning on using the loft which i only have access to.
Could you give me a list of nutrients you used and maybe a chart or explanation showing nutrient quantities against time and dosage?
Are any of your flowers showing bud yet? and how much longer until harvest?

I picked the tent up in a local hydroponics shop, it's about 4ft x 4ft. I think im right having the filter inside the tent, certainly been no smells outside it ;)
I used Canna products mostly, there are certain ones for vegative, flowering etc. The only other products i've used are liquid oxygen and PK 13-14.
Make sure you get good digital PH and CF testers, take things slowly.

Yeah thats a nice looking ICE grow you have going there. Fantastic plant health. Bit too much of a jungle for my liking though.
Your grow was on my mind the other day. I had to wait till my plant was big enough to take a cutting. As soon as I took it, I could switch to 12/12. I was picturing it being 2 weeks older, catering for most of the stretch. Thats when I realised I had 'done a Khan'.
A week and a half on and it has gone beserk! Might have to move it to a bigger grow area. Wouldn't be a problem if I had proper lighting like you have. I have to cater for the weak penetration of CFLs.

hey khan. ive been following your grow as it is similar to the one i am going to start very soon here. im doing 6 plants hydro with a 17 gal res and 6 superskunk feminized babys.
i see no one answered your question about yield, and i think you are going to be very surprised, in my opinion your going to get alot more then 1zip per plant, im thinking like 3. oh by the way im going with a 1000 watt hps.
anyways, lookin good, how much was that tent by the way? i have been researching them a little, as i think its what i wanna do. also, how much was the carbon scrubber and how is the tent holding up those lights? well, did the tent come with any support for the lights?

I hope your right about the yield ;) Im thinking 1-2 but i'll be very happy with 3...
The tent was about Ā£200 I believe, the carbon filters are pretty pricey, about the same as the tent. Well worth the money mind.
The setup come with 2 elasticated pully's, which are working fine except my plants have grown to within 5" of the light.. Wish I could put it a little higher.
All in all i'm happy with the way its worked out in the tent though, seems the white walls are reflecting a good bit of energy into the centre of the grow and the temp. has been consistent in there.
Sorry about the lapse in photos all, got the camera just need the cable now lol.
Plants are looking great, the flowers are getting big and are already coated in crystals, as well as the leaves.
Would you use superthrive this late in a grow? Been using some on my clones I though it might do the ladies some good too.

killer khan whats up ? using superthrive now , wouldnt do any good now, shit your on day 22 of 12/12 and it seems as though you have everything under controll. i would use it from day 1 up until , you see flowers starting, a little after until you have temps and etc. good. after that stress shouldnt be a problem. shit i didnt have to tell you that your KILLER KHAN :thumbsup:

Hydro is fun and gives you something to do but just sit and watch soil. I have 12 plants in flower, 6 in each container. A small sea of green. I will post some pic's in a thread tonight. One out of 6 was a runt and I smoked it yesterday, damn I only have a week left on the other 5 and hope for close to a pound. The runt kicked ass. Khan please find your cable. LOC NAR, what size containers are you using? By that I mean how many gallons
Also Khan, what's the wattage on your light? Is it a 1000 watt system?

Hey man. I'm using 10 gallon tubs but put 6 gallons to run on. Alternate 2 of them 6 plants each. Small sog. Man on this grow it's full of roots.
Mine's just 600w.

you need a 30x microscope to see if the thc is ready or not, is the only way you start to flush. on my big bud hydro grow , i didnt have a microscope and just went off the facts on the big bud and started to flush on the latest day of flowering ( 56-62 days of flowering) i went with 62. and that bitch came out excellent. but try and get a 30x micro if you can. just water only 7 days before day 62.

Kahn I think the problem you were having with your camera is you were focusing on the background, if you look at the pictures the flowers in the foreground are blurry while the leaves in the background are crisp. Great grow though, it really inspired me.
Using a magnif. glass and my camera phone I got some half decent shots... :)

I originally posted that Ice was crap IMO, but your pics look different than the Ice I had.
Have started flushing them now, i'd say 50% red hairs atm mostly cloudy trichs. Will keep the flush going for 2 weeks, hopefully will end up with some good harvest pics :D

Correct me if I am wrong dude, but if you want to lower the "humidity", shouldnt you be using a "de-humidifier" and removing the water and wet towels and shit.
Seems to me that leaving water and wet towels is going to cause the humidity (amount of moisture in the air) to go UP!!?

When I read about Ice it said it had a smell like Diesel, didnt think they meant it but it really does!!! Strong sweet taste, not cured enough yet but a very K.O smoke.

I've grown Ice from 'Female seeds. After a month veg and a bit of timer trouble, they're now over 6ft. with a month to go. :rasta:
Four have one main head, two have about a dozen different heads. They're becoming very white, but gaining weight slowly. I thought they were more indica but the leaves look like sativa.
Nice grow, yeah they sure do get tall. Well worth the wait too!

Well my ice plants had to be culled about two weeks early due to a landlord visit.
I've microwaved a little and was disappointed by the lack of smell when ground.
However the result is great. It's a very clear headed high and the munchies are much reduced. It really is one of the best smokes I've had.
I would guess the dry weight yealy from four plants will be about 10oz. But the plants were six feet tall.
Time to move on now, so a new grow room will have to be constructed. Sounds like fun to me....:D
Ouch yeah I steamed a little in the micro myself (just a little bud) and it was nasty. It dries out nice tho and gets a really strong smell of diesel.
Good luck on the next grow ;) i'm moving myself soon too

hey KHAN I am back! our 5 ice 2000 plants turned into 3 under 400W light. We are wondering what your opinion is on when to flower these bad boys? At what height approx? Again, only 3 plants under 400W HPS. We were thinking at about a ft and then tie them sideways? Thanks man, I was thinking about doing my own ice 2000 chronicled grow but we are already almost to flowering stage.
They grow real big real fast, I wished I had flowerd mine earlier. Difficult to say @ what height to flower at but any more than 2 foot and your going to find yourself in a forest ;)
Ice is a longer flowerer than most other strains, I harvested 2 weeks later than I planned and really I could have left it another week or 2 more.
I doubt you'll ever see a pretier bud than a big purple and blue Ice buds, good luck and enjoy.

thanks man. Since the 400W light is very close they have turned into crazy little bushes! We will keep that in mind then and try to flower a little longer than we normally would for best results. Real heavy head high huh? Also is the diesel so bad that people are going to know its potent dank or does it really smell just like gas and we should just not worry about it?
Believe it or not it actually smells like Diesel. It's a very dank dark smell.
As for the potency put it this way, my friends call it the sidewalker because it makes you do exactly that, walk sideways. I swear to god lol.

khan were your buds rock hard? i just choped at end of week 9! and the buds are curing now just that they are like fluffy i guess is the word im lookin for, i used 1k hps aswell with gh nutes with perfect readings through every day....iono maybe thell will be better next time around..
but your fuckin right about the smell....pure dark diesel smell, crack a jar the whole house stinks kinda shit

Mellogold Fluffy buds are often the results of 'Boosters' used at the end of your grow to increase yield..
I think we had about 18oz each, prob. closer to 40oz in total I think.

Great grow Khan. I know this thread is over two years old, but whatever I'll share my grow anyway. Were yours from nirvana seeds? If not, im curious of where you got them. I love the way the buds just cover the stems, here they are 36 days in

I think I got them from doctor chronic. Your plants are looking sweet, I havn't seen the Ice200 seeds around since i'd like to be able to do it again. It's alot like NYD but higher THC.
It had a wierd thing where everyone who smoked it couldn't walk straight afterwards, they called it sidewinder lol
