I gave my brother my white lighter last night and as soon as he saw it he says they're bad luck. Anyone ever here of this? I'm not superstitious or anything, just curious.:pimp:

White lighters bad luck? More than likely anyone dumb enough to believe that is just the kind of person that, due to their own stupidity, happens to have ??bad things? happen to them.

you're an idiot. To eat crow is when you say something that is blatently wrong and then suffer the humiliation.

In fact, as of my post, you are currently eating crow. See how that works?

sorry, I have a low tolerance for illiteracy.

edit: Oh yeah, white lighters. I think that's because when people get lighters with graphic wrappers they tend to be dying at about the same time as the wrapper is gone. Leaving behind a dead white lighter.

Nope, I've never heard about white lighters being bad luck.

white lighters = bad luck. its what ive always heard, and ive witnessed some weird things. like the night my friend swallowed 15 hits of acid when they got pulled over, he had a white lighter and all day i was telling him it was bad luck. when me and my friend went to pick him up, he threw it out the window.

polimerize, your the moron here.

Bad luck associated with crows in general, and eating one, is something that has been around far longer than some silly coloqualism of "eating crow".

In fact, where do you think that expression CAME FROM?

Second, iliteracy is the inability to read or white, and clearly everyone here is capable of that. Perhaps you need to buy yourself a dictionary.

Yeah, to recap, you an asshole, and not very bright. :)

So let me get this straight...After four billion years of life on earth, humans have evolved, and after hundreds of thousands of years of development some humans invent the lighter and start manufacturing them en masse. When they paint the lighters with a paint that reflects white light particles, some mysterious force heretofore unknown is magically activated, which somehow influences events in the physical world in such a way that the possessor of that particular lighter is rendered unhappy. Does that make any frickin' sense?

You'd win yourself a Nobel Prize if you could prove something like that was going on.

Do you claim to know more about the universe than anyone else here? If so then tell me why that is! I'm not saying that you are wrong, in fact you are probably right, but reality is tangable and there is something called luck or chance that is caused by choices that we make. Every single thing affects something else even if its in a tiny way. if even one atom were added to out universe it would displace every other atom thereby affecting everything even if its just a tiny bit. But how do we know there isnt some pattern or flow or shape to this luck, it would be possible to calculate luck if it were in an extremely small environment, or you might be able to calculate the odds of what will happen and depending on if reality is random or not you would be able to determine the future, or at least get the probability of what will happen next in a sequence of events.

there is a law that states for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. now this applies to physics, so that would mean that it would apply to physical objects and stuff you can touch, see, feel etc. but what about energy, if it also applies to electricity then even thinking would have some opposite affect on something else, which leads me to wonder about the distiction between mind and matter. is it definate?

If i had enough money and time I would LOVE to do scientific research especially in the field of quantum dynamics or electromagnetic field dynamics, but im far to lazy and poor to go to school for it.

anyways, once again i forgot what my main point was gonna be (damn you marijuana!!!!!! hehe :stoned: :stoned: )

There is no such thing as "luck". There is randomness, and there are the laws of physics. Everything operates predictably according to the laws of physics, except where quantum events cause randomness to seep in, such as with nuclear radiation; we can't predict exactly when a particular molecule will decay, but we know it has a certain chance of decaying over a certain time period. Anyways, this randomness has absolutely no knowledge of good and bad, which are central concepts in the idea of luck. "Good" and "bad" are subjective terms, and I don't see how a "bad luck energy field" around some unlucky object could possibly read your mind to see what you think is good and what is bad.

I guess I almost have to respond. All answers from answers.com if you want to verify. First off, the topic was never whether crows are unlucky or not, but rather "eating crows". As for the expression and where it comes from:
eat crow

Also, eat dirt or humble pie. Be forced to admit a humiliating mistake, as in When the reporter got the facts all wrong, his editor made him eat crow. The first term's origin has been lost, although a story relates that it involved a War of 1812 encounter in which a British officer made an American soldier eat part of a crow he had shot in British territory. Whether or not it is true, the fact remains that crow meat tastes terrible.
As for illiteracy, well, like many words in English it's definition is not confined to a single meaning, but rather it has several uses. Thus in the following definition we can see that you're clearly right with regards to its first and most primary usage, but you've clearly failed to consider other meanings.
il·lit·er·a·cy

1. The condition of being unable to read and write.
2. An error, as in writing or speech, made by or thought to be characteristic of one who is illiterate.
3. The condition or quality of being ignorant or unknowledgeable in a particular subject or field: cultural illiteracy; scientific illiteracy.
So in a little recap of my own. Bright? I'm like a fucking supernova drowning out the light of a thousand suns. Hope you enjoy the taste of crow, you illiterate bastard!

Yes this is true but the human body creates such a low electrical current that it is almost unrecordable, although all animals in the known universe do emit this electricity. Your theory is interesting but i believe energy is a differnet force which woudl react differnetly than the others stated. Also im interested in what affects you think en
ergy or electricity would have.

Also, correct me if im wrong but doesnt quantum mechanics have something to do with time being layed out in steps? or something like that. Like proving that ripples dont go on forever. How everything has a half way point. How if you throw a ball at a wall then at some point it will be halfway from where u threw it and the wall. Like below
|-------------| the 2 lines show you(thre thrower of the ball) and teh wall.

whne you throw the ball it will eventually be halfway between you and the wall and will then eventually be hlafway from halfway and then half of that.

An easier way to explain it is that its 1/2 to the wall then 3/4 to the wall then 7/8 of the way.
like so
----------------
--------
----
--
-

The theory states that eventually there will vbe such a small distance between the ball and the wall that there is no halfway, this happens when the ball hits the wall. This is similar to ripples in the water. They get smaller and smaller but eventually they do stop there is no halfway no half size of ripple.

Wow im sorta blazed so if thast confusing or wrong dont blame lol. But that stuff is very interesting definetly... ; )

i was outside smoking a cigg, lit it with a white lighter i found on the sidewalk like right before work and shit. my whole arm lit up and shit, i forgot i spilled gas on my long sleeve shirt at the pump that morning. i was okay and shit, but 2nd degree burns all up my right arm and my hair looked fuckin stupid for like a month cuz it got all singed.

I hate white lighters and if you use them you're probably going to get hurt. Don't use them for smoking pot because pot puts you really in touch with natural energies and stuff, and white lighters have a very negative association to them. It's probably only mental, but lots of bad stuff happens with white lighters.

that's how i've always thought, like before i stopped believing in it at all, because i finally disproved it all to myself. i do however, believe in karma, and cannot disprove it to myself, no matter how hard i try.
