So I listen to the typical hippie/stoner/whatever you want to call it music, and I hear about Jah all the time. I know that he is a higher being of some sort, but what religion is this? I am just interested in all the religions that my parents and schools have neglected to teach me about.

I am basically looking to find something to guide me since I lost religion about 3 years ago (when I was 14). So I just want a general discusison about aspects of religions other than Christianity, and the Judiesm (sorry I can not spell), because I am fairly informed on those two.

Thanks

Paul

Jah is the name commonly used for God in the religious Rastafari movement. It comes from the Hebrew which would explain why it's used in alot of stoner songs lol. Apart of the Rastafari is marijuana use..

well actually, Jah, or Jah Jah is specifically referring to Haile Selassie (a late King of Ethiopia), he arrived at Jamaica, greeted by 100-200 thousand people and spoke there. Rastafarians believe that he is God, himself (Rita Marley claimed she saw scars on Selassies hand, that look liked he was crucified, she instantly converted after he spoke). Selassie on the other hand, doesn't believe it, but had shown kindness to the Jamaicans, encouraged them to help their country first and move back to Arica (they wanted to move back), he gave them (i believe) around 500 sq miles of land in Africa.

He was a good man! Some quotes from his speeches are so powerful.

You guys started to get into the religion, but now I want details.

What does the rastafarian movement/religion compose of? I just want to learn and expand my horizons a little more. Any one know good books to read on the subject?
