how many weeks into a plants life before it begins this stage and what hours of light should i give it im a new growing any advicce is appreciated

3+ weeks, depending on the size you want from finished plant....
flowering cycle is 12 hours of light... 12 hours of dark.

The general rule of thumb is when your plant starts to get alternating internodes and some secondry growth, thats the best time to put your plant into the flowering stage. Have fun!

is that right?.. I though alternating nodes....showed it was male???
Every time I've had a plant with leaves across from each other... it was male...???

^^^^ Nah the alternating nodes are a sign of maturity and have nothing to do with sex. After the plant gets to over a foot tall it usually begins to alternate its nodes and that's when you can start flowering her under lights. It's not like you have to wait until the nodes start to alternate, it's just for best results you want to have a mature plant to flower.
So anywhere from 1.5 months+ of vegetative growth and then you can start to flower her.
