There is a birdflu going on in your city. Your mom is already dead from the flu, and each house gets 1 vaccine.
You: 18 year old male, healthy.
Father: 45 year old male, healthy.
What do you do? Why?
I believe that most people will take/give the vaccine to the 18 year old. We are programmed to survive, and we'll give the vaccine to whoever is most likely to survive (Kids over Old people, healthy over sick... even males over females).
Everything we learned while we were growing up is to sacrifice yourself for family/group/country. Maybe it's been like that to make sure we don't kill off each other and make sure that we have a chance to survive.
ONLY if you TRULY care/love someone, that you will die for them. If their lives mean MORE than YOUR life.

well if its a bird flu epidemic im sure my father would understand that whoever survived would be responsible for continuing the population and wouldnt want to take the vaccine although i would gladly give it to him but I would not suffer the flu i would take my own life before any suffering began, same for my father, id pop him in his sleep

id tkae a chance and give half to him and half to me, or i would just give it to him, because if only one person from each family or household survived then most of my friends would be dead and so i wouldnt want to live.
Me and my dad dont see eye to eye but i dont want to see him die, id much rather die than watch anyone i love die.

At one point of human history, there were only 2,000 humans left in this planet. Those who adapted to the lifestyle and made decisions to survive is the only reason we're here today.
It's not depressing, it's reality.

When, in the course of civilized history did the total human population ever total 2,000? Hell, I can not think of one point in prehistory where 2,000 was even a fesiable number. Durring human evolution we were a largely tribal speices that had little contact with each other, but even then, 2000 is total lowball estimate.
But to your scenario, I would say that I would break into my neighbors house and steal thier vaccine, saving both father and son.
