to tell you the truth i cannot figure out this math hw so it would be nice if you can post answers: solve each inequality for y:
A. 84x+7y is bigger than or equal to 70
B. 4.8x-0.12y<7.2
just those 4 now....

umm.. technically either answer could have a whole range of multitude of answers... it's not like there's only certain numbers that could fit in the variables to complete the equation...

the book says solve the inequality for y, so there is only 1 answer- i know its hard

A. 84x+7y is bigger than or equal to 70
in example to my post...
(84 x .50 = 42) + (7 x 4 = 28) = 70...
or..
(84 x 1 = 84) + (7 x -2 = -14) = 70...
or....
(84 x .60 = 50.4) + (7 x 4.5 = 31.5) = 81.9
i could just keep going on and on, i was just trying to give you an idea...

thats 84 X, not times. this is algebra

Yea but 84x would be 84 times another number....right? I dunno. I suck at math.

what it means is to put the answer in terms of y... as in just make it y is greater than or equal to whatever. for instance.
20x+4y ≥ 40
-20x from each side
4y ≥ 40-20x
everything divided by four
y ≥ 10-5x
theres your answer for that

no you're right, when a variable (letter) is next to a number in an equation, like right up beside it, it's multiplied... been a while since i've been in school.. but i know i haven't smoked myself that stupid yet....
and are you sure there isn't some set numbers you have to choose from to fit in the equation... like i said it's been a long time but i'm pretty sure i know wtf i'm talking about....

A. 84x+7y is bigger than or equal to 70
B. 4.8x-0.12y<7.2
just those 4 now....
84x + 7y ≥ 70
everything over 7
12x + y ≥ 10
subtract 12x from both sides
y ≥ 10 - 12x
pwnt
the next is
4.8x - 0.12y < 7.2
multiply everything by 100
480x - 12y < 720
subtract 480x
-12y < 720 - 480x
divide by -12, inequality sign flips
y > 40x - 60
done

You can't solve either equation without either another equation or a value for x as there are two unknowns, you can only put them as y in terms of x.
Neither mind, just read the other posts.
