Girls more likely to be "druggies" than guys?

Adolescent girls abuse drugs and alcohol just as much if not more than boys, a new study indicates.

Contrary to popular belief, more girls are new substance abusers. In 2004, 1.5 million girls started using alcohol, 730,000 girls started smoking, and 675,000 started using marijuana, according to the 2004 National Survey on Drug Use and Health.

Girls smoke cigarettes and abuse prescription drugs more than boys. And since 2003, girls have caught up with boys in abuse of illicit drugs and alcohol.

Girls abuse for different reasons that boys. Drug and alcohol use has a more profound impact on teen girls, both physically and psychologically.

A desire to lose weight also contributes to drug abuse; girls pop diet pills four times more than boys.

I've heard the same stats about girls being more active with respect to drug use in the past few years. Than again, from what I've heard, today's young women are prone to doing a lot of things they didn't do 20 or 30 years ago. Either that or they are more willing to admit it. You rarely if ever saw teen girls in the 70's that had extensive tatoos or piercings for example. Much less the hooker costumes they wear in this new century.

i agree, girls usually become prosititues to feed drug habbits, i know more serious female druggies then male.

I have to admit i know a lot of girls whove tried drugs, but then they decide there wrong or some other excuse and quit.
