View Full Version : Have a Coors!

Hey folks. I live just outside Denver, in Golden. The home of Coors beer. I don't like the beer, but at least it is a place people have heard of because of the television ads. It really is a cool town.

I hadn't smoked for 20 years, but decided to start again recently when I was up at the ski hill and caught a whiff of some kids off in the trees. Its hard to find when you've been out of it for a while! None of my friends smoke, so I had to look elsewhere. I tried all the "seedy" parts of Denver and Boulder I could think of to try to buy some off the street. I guess I look like a cop, because nobody would sell to me.

I am not much of a concert person, but I went to a bluegrass concert and asked everyone who looked even remotely like they would know where to score. I felt like a 12 year old again! That sucked. I managed to find some dudes who I had met at a ski shop. They hooked me up with a few hits. Was it sweet!

I still didn't have a bag of my own. Bummer. I had to hang with them for about a month before I could convince them to sell me some. After trying to get a 1/2, I wound up with only an 1/8th. Better than nothing. Right? Kept trying to score some more, and they kept saying they were dry. Sure they were. Maybe I came on too strong?

Anyway these dudes were kids in their early 20's. I tried keeping up with them for a while, but I just can't stay out all night drinking like I used to. Staying up until midnight is a stretch for me. Everytime I went out with these guys they would just be getting started when it would come time for me to split. 2 am seems like a good time to go home?

In the old days, the only way to hook up was through friends. Now all my friends have jobs and kids. They have less idea where to score than I do. It would be nice to hook up with some laid back older folks. I am sure, that if I give it time it'll happen.

Back to the bud... So, I thought the net might be a good place to look. I did some searching and found this site and a few others. I've been following them for about a month. I've learned a lot! I am not the only "older dude" who smokes. I wonder how many others are "professionals"?

I was encouraged when I came across DD's site. <sigh> We all know what happened to that! What a racket. Lost a bundle. Boy was I dumb. I've got a few smaller MOM order in. I am pretty sure they can't all be scams. A couple look promising. (Naming names is uncool, so I'm not gona do it.) I should know in a few days if they all ripped me off. At least one was a scam, but two others look much more promising. We'll see.

Well, that's my story. If your still reading, thanks for sticking with me. Not really looking for anything. Just wanted to give an introduction. Hope to meet more nice people on here. Maybe even a local hook-up some day.

Be well!

If you're really interested in smoking again do some research into stealth growing. You can keep 1-2 plants in a very small space. Enough to supply yourself and friends if you wanted. I think this is probably the way the majority of "professionals" smoke as it gives them a hobby, security, and a completely clean product. You'll find a number of threads from older people on here who have problems finding stuff. I'm sure it's just because the age gap makes it hard to fall into the main-stream "stoner scene". Good luck to you and welcome!

hey, i'm in the same boat....recently moved to a new town, past 40 not into the all night club scene, can't find a hookup. MOM works, you prob. associating with one i associate with, but hate the wait! doing the "stealth grow" lemonboy described, should have my first harvest in may. nothing sticks out like a sore thumb more than a forty something trying to gain connections thru twenty boppers! didn't floyd pepper play bass in "dr. teeth and the electric mayhem"? muppet band featuring gonzo on drums?? or was it animal?

I play Bluegrass music and i have wandered through the crowds and i am never amazed at the different folks toking up. Young, old, long hair, short hair, no hair. Our last gig was the "Hardly Strictly Bluegrass" Festival in San Francisco. www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com
I am always asked by some in the audience to smoke a joint with them before going on stage and i always have to tell them " i cant, i forget the words, but i'll see you after our set"

Yea man! That's it. Animal played the drums. Gonzo would often announce them, but he wasn't in the band. And don't forget special effects by Crazy Harry. (See attached photos.)

Diama, It's great to see another bluegrass fan! I really like younger bands that play traditional grass, like Nickel Creek. (Hmmm... "Grass" is short for bluegrass. No wonder I like it so much!) Older dudes that don't play too much gospel are great too. I like the music of Larry Sparks, but he looks and acts like a fool. I would never want to see him live. Too much like Branson, MO. <grin> Ever since I got hooked up with XM radio, I've been able to listen to it all the time. Nothing like a festival though.

How do you feel about the New Grass sound? Ever think it sounds more like jazz?

Scoot and Lemon, As it happens I used to be big into growing orchids. (They all died when I moved to Colorado. Nasty fungus.) At one time I had about 20 plants. At $50 a pop, that was a pretty big collection! I have lighted grow cabinets, fertilizer, pots, and just about everything I would need! Funny thing is that my wife wants me to set one of the cabinets up so she can grow herbs. heh heh Maybe I should try to germinate some of my own "herb" along with hers.

She knows I go off whenever some politician or activist starts talking about legislated morality. My biggest topic is, of course, the idiocy of making pot illegal. She doesn't know that I started smoking again, but I don't think she would be surprised if a few MJ plants appeared. How long does it take from germination to buds?

Thanks for y'alls replies. I really didn't expect anyone to reply!

I'm an ol' Doc Watson, Old and in the Way(Garcia, Grisman, Vassar Clements,Johm Kahn, Peter Rowan), Bill Monroe,
Clements fiddle work on , High Lonesome sound, is amazing. He just died not long ago.
I also dig the Austin Lounge Lizards, Poor mans whiskey, Earl Scruggs, Tony Rice, etc etc.
You will find no better flatpicker than Tony Rice. He did some stuff with Jerry Gacia before Garcia died called, The Pizza Tapes. David Grisman on the Mandolin. Fuckin sweet.
Let me know if you're even in San Francisco. We'll smoke ya out and then sit down in the garage, open the door, and break out the guitars and banjo.

Right-On Scooter,
The dawg plays one hell of a Mandolin. When my Grandfather first came to America from Austria he played the Mandolin over the radio in Manhattan for a living. Of course this was years and tears before TV came along. People whould sit next to the radio and listen to stories, listen to plays, and of course, listen to live performances, like my grand dads. Here in San Francisco we have a really really great Bluegrass Festival every year. Around 50 bands, 4 stages, in Golden Gate Park. It is appropriately called Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. You can access past and future shows by going to www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com.
We also have one up in Mendocino in June.
Ol' Doc was just here in October. I was hanging backstage with Guy Clark, Tony Rice,Peter Rowan, Dolly Pardon, and the Doc himself. What a great bunch of human beings, and talent. We are set to go to the Fillmore to see Willie next week. I saw him a few years back and smoked a joint with him and his manager. He now has his own "Willie Gas" for sale in Texas. I cant wait to see him. I have a hat that i wear to all festivals that i get autographed. I have his from before, but it's faded over the years.

Peace,

when i saw dave grisman, he stopped playing and chastized the mostly college age crowd for being too loud! MerleFest is held every year in Wilkesboro, NC to celebrate the too short life of Merle Watson. it is a "not to miss" event on my calendar. here in the capitol city of SC, we are also lucky to have Bill's music shop and pickin' parlor. i saw Dr. Ralph Stanley there along with Rhonda Vincent and the Rage. oh, coincidentally, i used to play in a band named for the tv gameshow host from the muppets, Guy Smiley. loooong time ago!

I'll have a brew..........THANK YOU!!

Its not too often i get to sit back and enjoy a local beer. I appreciate it. From the FaT TIRES of the world to the Boulder Beer to Coors, we are definitely BLESSED here in the Rocky Mountains for brew.

Of course, if you analyze my recent taste test availability, you will find that Colorado is to be appreciated for BUD too. NO, not BUD-WEI-SER, I am talking about da GREEN. AND YES, i am a MMJ patient listed with the Colorado Registry. In the past couple weeks, I have tried AK-47, alaskan ThunderF*ck, Amsterdam Bubble Berry, and I currently have a big fatty of a first taste of BUBBLE GUM spliff in my mouth. WISH you were ALL here to taste and enjoy.

The Rocky Mountains can also be a cold and distant place for making new friends. Everyone is on an 'individualized' wavelength, was my initial impression, but now that i have been here for six years, my social circle is finally starting to pleasantly expand. I welcome anyone in Colorado to contact me, and maybe we can establish some good VIBE.//Timothy(aka COmidnightrider46):D
