View Full Version : GROWING ATOP TREE

I wish to grow outdoors. Insect, animals and water source have been a big issue. Has anyone ever grown in tree tops? This would seem to thwart the deer and rabbit population, and decrease the likelyhood of grubworm attack (as well as a million other ground bugs). Has anyone ever tried to use the tree itself as a water source? (ie. topping the tree trunk above predator or prey and suspending 5 gl bucket w/ planting soil and plant)?)
Cut a 3 " trunk, drill a 3" hole in the bottem of a 5 gallon bucket and perch the bucket atop tree trunk. What would you suggest as the best suitable tree to try this method? Pine? Oak? None?
Thanks, mutha may I

Do the birds like cannabis? If they do, you are going to their free provider!:p
LOL.. treetops!:D

Seriously Powder Puff, I would think the birds would act as industrious insect eaters...however, if a pair of birds were to attempt to build a nest in my plant, I,d sic the kitty on them. Really, want to know if anyone has grew pot in trees?

Ok, seriously..!:p
It might be a good idea, it might be a bad idea.. Were do you live? In the big city? In a little village? It will get smelly, so people who will walk by might smell it.. If it gets very windy, the plant might fall down..
And are you planning on climbing on top of the tree everytime the plant needs to be fed?
Still.. LOL.. Treetops..!:p

It works great if you have stealth problems and stuff.
It's just harder to get to it when you need to and unless it's a the top it will only get filtered sunlight. But my friend did it...it works.

thanks for the encouragment. Stealth is an issue, but so is the elements. I wish to keep my jaunts through the woods down to once a month - unless needed. I have a 1000 acre area that burned several years ago. Trees are nearing ten foot tall. I plan to cut the trunk of the tree off at six feet, cut a hole in the bottem of a 5 gl bucket and impale the empty bucket onto the tree trunk, fill it with dirt and a well established seedling. This untried method would seem too good to be true, but I am going to try it this grow season. My only concern is that the natural sap of the tree leaching into the miracle grow soil as the water seeps into the 5 gl bucket suspended above the cut tree trunk six feet above ground. The tree wont die either. It will simply be topped, and at the end of the grow season, I will yank the camoflouged 5 gl bucket from atop the tree and toss it in the dump...
I will let everyone know the results. If the skunk tastes like tree, I'll know the method isn't worth repeat. motha may i

Thats a great idea.Don't use miracle grow soil get fox farm or something else organic.I don't see why it wouldn't work.
Keep us updated ...this would be a great thread.

You have a good idea however you need to consider the type of tree you are using, does it gather moisture through its foliage or through the roots?

Dog, and All,
Will keep you abreast of this idea...
Artic, I'm planning to use the taproot connected beneath a 10 foot lolly pine as my water sourse, not a fern. The deer ate me alive last year. They wont this next grow!

will take your advise about the soil, dog.

yes man....tree tops are good
birds wont eat yer plants
get a nice 2-3 gallon bucket and put holes in the bottom for drainage
then make a pulyy system in the tree....throw a rope over a banch tie it to the bucket and raise it up....then ancor down the other end....and dont water too much....only a little bit every 3 weeks

I tried growing in a knot in a tree up high I put a seedling in a rotted knot high up in the tree, it was hell getting up there, but the next day I came back and it was gone I suspect rats or squirrels cause there was shit around the tree in spots along with stashed seeds from other trees (probably food for some animal) I dunno be careful with it. just my :twocents:

what would the cops in helicopters think when they saw buckets in trees?

Same thing they would think when they see them on the ground. And from my experience it goes a little somthing like this. "cop 1 : hey I bet if we steal those and sell them we can make money off that person" "cop 2 : ya and to make sure no ones finds out we can destroy thier life and put them in prison"

a little paranoid Karmaxel?
And they wouldn't see the bucket if yourt smart you use a green one or a camo 1.Paint it camo yourself, shit.
Get creative not paranoid. If every grower thought like that Karmaxel we'd all be screwed and you mine as well give up know. With that - additude.Just my 2 cents! I know your not like that bro...you just grow indoors ussually right?

seriously i was thinkin of doin this.. this way, the smell radiates higher, noone would smell it.. then they wouldnt steal it.. they wouldn't even think to look up there, they may think its just a bird's house or somethin.. i would say to set somethin lyk that up but have some kind of system, lyk a rope n pulley, to lower it to the ground when u take care of it.. i'd say to do that at night and work with a blacklight flashlight.. it wont disturb the plant's slumber..
i jus read what you wrote, thats not stealth at all homie.. the avg man is lyk 5"10.. that's gonna be oblivious to the naked eye.. :pimp:
