Morning all:)
Ive been thinking(danger here), My plant will be 5 weeks tomorow. Ive read somewhere that I can go into flower at 5 weeks veg.I think? I have 5 nodes, its hard to tell, because, some seem to be doubleled. If you know what I mean. Its like theres a thick bracnch, then a skinnier smaller one growing just abouve it.
I measured plant its 6 inches tall

I'd wait until it's a foot. 7 to 9 nodes. looks very healthy. well done.

Hello Rasta :) Like I said personally I would just try and wait a little longer before going on 12/12, but that's just me ;)

The present lot I started at about 7 weeks (still early for me), anywhere from 12 inch to 18 inch is my average for inducing.
However I'm not too fussy about a bit of streching so mine do grow taller pretty quickly ;)
The height I like to have when harvesting the plants is somewhere around the yard (metre) mark.

My impatient time is right now just before harvesting, I know they are not ready yet but I keep looking at the sisccors, thinking "shall I just cut this lot so I can get the next lot started" :o

mandy I posted a new pic I took this afternoon, there is a bud like thing in the middle, should I top this? I mean when its time to top?
ps my plant is starting to get a kind of pissy citrussy smell? I hope this is good?

as a beginner, you want to stay away from topping, etc... just focus on getting a good grow going

you CAN go to flowering whenever you want, but most wait until thier plant shows alternating nodes, which usually takes about 4 weeks, i always start flowering early, around 2-3 weeks @8-10'', because my plants have to stay shorter than 3ft

since your plant has been through so much (frost, etc), it is really small for its age

just count on it getting between 2-3x its size when starting to flower by the time it is done flowering and start it whenever you want

thanks mighty so I can stay away from topping? good I was nervous anyway. Im thinking of waiting two more weeks before switching lights to 12/12, hoping plant big enough by then, yet not too big, as you say it can double triple?? heres hoping:)

Hello Rastagal :) It (she ;) ) is coming on really well :)
The bud thing is just new growth, I think it does take on a different look as it gets older ;)
You don't have to "pinch" (top) if you don't want too, some people do and some don't ................I suppose it's just down to personal choice.

I always pinch mine about five days before inducing flowering, it's really very simple ;)
Using small sharp sisscors is a more acurate way but I just use my finger nails. You just simply "pinch" or cut off the new growth at the very top of the plant. However you have to be very carefull not to take of any of the shoots were the new stems will grow from.
With the new growth removed the diagonal shoots at the last node will grow and form two new main stems replacing the one original stem..............and hopefully increasing yeild :)

Honestly love you don't have to do it if you don't want to, I didn't start "pinching" untill after a year or two of growing ;)

let it get a little bigger and you 'l;l get more bud.

yea.. i was never a fan of topping, or any method that involves chopping the plant

LST or scrog are just as good, usually better, for increasing yield

i like to LST, that way all secondary growth will grow upward while the main stalk is tied down, leaving you with MANY main colas, as opposed to just 2

Now I just need to get me some of that patience...:)

LST stands for Low Stress Training. it is the same thing as tying.

you dont have to do anything other than feed and water your plant

oh and give it light and fresh air :D

amstron

ye, I find not much differnce, but if your going to train it i'd bend over, as your plant is small for its age, you dont want to waste your time waiting for it to heal after it's been topped, wheras bending has no healing time

mightymarijuanabuds

LST is the best method for a beginner to start training with, but that plant is still too small to start LST... IMO

ye, you dont want to do it yet.

You got some nice plant bro I siggest just let her grow. Then change it to 12/12 when she gets atleast 1 foot. Then let her bud for a while AKA:Flower for like 3-5 weeks and your good. Good luck man

mightymarijuanabuds
12-07-2005, 01:26 AM
LOL

flower for way longer than 3 weeks

unless you know the strain you gotta read the plant to tell when it is ready... the quickest finishing strains go about 45 days or just over 6 weeks... the average harvest window is 6-8 weeks, longer if you have a highly sativa dominant plant.. which it doesnt look like you do

wait until your 6th week of flowering to start looking for signs of maturity on your buds

Hello Rastagal :) Well love you have been getting lots of different advice....................It kinda makes growing a plant sound difficult doesn't it, It's not.....honest ;)
I can tell you that after you have grown this plant and then maybe a little crop or two, then you will think "this is easy, I don't know what all the fuss was about" ;) . Mind you problems can still ocurr but usually they just grow themselves with the minimal need of interference.

It really is up to you when you want to start inducing ;) . Everyone has their own little methods of growing and after a few grows you will find which way is best for you :)

Morning, pet, how are ya:)
You know Mand, I think i take your approach better than others. You do it simply without all the Science blinding bits :) thats what I want too, just to let it grow simply. The advice can get confusing cant it:) but still it does help, its great to hear different ideas I spoze.
I was looking at plant a while, ago, and I said to myself, Self, this is easy, Mand is right:)
Im bad at checking soil ph.
So I dont, I just let it grow, and it seems to be working like you told me.

its starting to smell great tho mand, you'd be proud of me :)specially the bits in the middle.

respect ,

Rastagal :rasta:

And Morning to you love as well :)
I would never knock any of the advice that you had, honestly there are a lot of very knowledgable people on these boards. Also the more technical side does yeild some fantastic results but maybe I'm just to thick or lazy (or both ;) ) as long as I can grow enough for me then I'm happy :)

You know I have no idea what cannabis actually smells like, or anything else for that matter I have no sense of smell whatsoever, never ever had. However when the plants are thick with resin I can taste it in the air when they are disturbed, that kinda gives me a clue that they are getting ready for harvest, oh and how they look as well ;)

I wouldn't reccomend that you pinch the plant, not on this grow anyway..............prehaps with future grows :) As for bending, there really is no need for you're plant, mind you that's something I've never done.

You're doing absolutely fine, looks nice and healthy and the new growth is coming on great :)

Yea your gonna need to at that age. An estimate time for a plant to grow good I'd say i anywhere from 3-4 months to fully develop

thers no way in hell Im waitng that long :) Uh uh! Actually the guy in grow shop said I could at about 8 weeks, because of the strain.
im so confused.
I'll just play it by ear.

Sorry did you mean that you have to veg for 3-4 months. This is not true as most people would have a large tree in that amount of time, a normal plant can go into flowering at 4 weeks, a clone even less. Even though rastagals plant is small for its age, she would still have a beast after this amount of time. Rastagal, you could flower now but I would wait for a bit longer to get a higher yield. I put my plants into flowering at around 7-8 weeks old, as unless you have a very powerful light then there can be disadvantages to vegging this long due to the light not being able to get to lower growth. There is no point in having a large tree inside as you would get a higher yield from having more smaller ones in the same area.
