I'm attempting a scrog and was just wondering how long i should let them grow through the screen before putting them on 12/12? These pics are of day 16 veg. These are clones. Should i top them so the under growth has a chance to catch up? Any input is appreciated. Thanks ahead.

I'm not yet an expert..but is that a sea of green or a screen of green??? incase u arent aware a ScrOG involve the use of a mesh or chickenwire!..perhaps u should add a mesh and you can then TRAIN the canopy horizontally under the screen and thus the plats will not get too tall and the canopy will be on an even horizontal plane! the buds will naturally turn up through the mesh towards the light! maybe u knew that ...but i cant see mesh screen in the photos!

The screen is there. You can see it best in the forth pic. Its a home made version of chicken wire. I'm just not sure if i should change the light hours now or when the tops start coming up through the wire. I started training them on day 7 by tying them down. The lower growth is about an inch from the screen. I'm sure in the next 7 days they will be coming through the screen. What i am thinking is waiting one more week and starting 12/12. With seven more days that would be a total of 23 veg days. Is this enough vegging time?

Assuming that the mother plant was in her PRE-FLOWERING phase ...the clones should be ready.....but u need to look to see for yourself...im sure the buds will all burst through if u start the 12/12 cycle..and u can train them accordingly..the dcision is yours ..maybe wait 2-3 more days....is that a bubbler?? and what size are those pots?? i fancy using the same set-up!!

Puffy they will grow anywhere from 8"-16" more in the flower cycle dude. Most people I know who grow Screen of Green method crop their plants so the side shoots and the main cola all grow at the same height. That way all they need to do is to poke the through the holes in the screen and tie back the rest. There is no lower light or buds. You almost lollypop the plant in fact.
Did that help?

Question Zandor,
So, I 'poke' the buds/colas up through the screen's holes.... right?
When you say 'no lower light or buds'... Can I assume you're refering that no light penetrates 'downstairs', and, because of one's training, there are no buds 'downstairs'? You place all the buds 'over' the screen...
Z, do I have this right?
Or am I assuming wrong?
BTW: Yes, it is helping.

You have it correct.
Screen of Green is where you flower only tips of the plant. By the time you poke all the end tips through the screen the light will not penetrate worth a dam. You can add sidelight but then it's not a Screen of Green.
SCOG is top light only so you only get the tips of the branches or main colas that are long enough to poke through. Once they do and fill out (you still need fan leaves) there is no light for the rest of the plant. If you lollypop it then the plant will not put energy into saving the lower parts of the plant and trying to flower them. You want the plant to put all it's energy into flowering the tops.
Hope that help.

Well you still need fan leaves so you can't cut them just tie them back. You will bend alot so just use caution and make large slow bends or  something may happen you don't want to happen. :cursing: It's not that hard just common sense you will be fine.

I think i know why my last attempt didn't go so well. I read somewhere (don't remember where) that the top 1/3 of fan leaves needed to be removed, so me like a dumbass, i clipped away. Well now with more advice and reliable info, i hope to have my first hydro harvest. Thanks Z. I will be starting 12/12 in two days and i can use all the help i can get. More threads to come with more questions. This time i won't be a mole just looking around for answers and not asking questions. Thanks again.

It's the top 1/3 that hold more then 1/2 of the Trichomes the plant will yield.
Puffy just ask away dude, good luck with your next round.

puff4twentynow + zandor,
I have the same General Hydroponics Rainforest system that I saw pictured in your setup. I would really appreciate it if you could give me a little background going into my first multi-plant grow. I would like to collect enough info to create a system-specific growing guide, but at first I really just need help with my own grow. I have established a new thread here:

Thanks in advance for taking time to answer any questions that you can. I know you don't have to and I appreciate your time.

So even if you have several lights hitting the side buds ... the BUDS themselves will grow however the potency of the lower 2/3's of the plant isn't on par with the Kola? Or isn't as "concentrated"...?

I was lollypopping my ladies again today to make sure i do that as best as possible and i noticed that the fan leaves had trichomes on them. They were clear and few but still they were there. I just put them into 12/12 three days ago. Has anyone ever noticed trichomes this early? This is the first time i notice trichs this early? Anyone?

Yes it normal for some strains. The THC percentage is not the same as on a flower but it's still there.

You need to provide the same power of light to all sides of the plant to grow evenly. I'm just guessing but I bet 98% of the time people only light from the top and that is where they get their numbers from of the top 1/3 because that's how much light penetrates in a normal grow.
The mail stock will hold more trichomes and a higher percentage of THC in them then the other parts of the plant will. The cola is where the antioxidants are that control a lot of the growth and other characterâ??s of the plant. (Itâ??s like the general in charge)
That's why when you crop the main cola the plant stays short and bushy.
