An Australian, Van Tuong Nguyen, will be executed for drug trafficking unless more attention is drawn to his plight. I believe that together we may save the life of this man.

To this end, I have written an open letter to the President of the Republic of Singapore asking for clemency. The open letter, which includes a dozen related e-mail addresses, is online:

http://www.joot.com/dave/writings/articles/capital-punishment.html

It is my hope that the interactivity of the Web can save a young man's life. Please read the above site and if you agree that a human should not die for being caught with drugs, then I beg you to send an e-mail asking the President of Singapore for clemency on behalf of Van.

Sincerely,
Dave Jarvis

You know I read this yesterday and I meant to post. But I got on with my day coz stuff's been busy round here. Then later that evening I remembered my winter schedule for our local Buddhist centre had arrived and on opening it I saw this quote.

"Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little". Edmund Burke

So I've sent my letter off, with my best wishes for a happy outcome.

the australian Government has informed the Queen of england and she is Not willing to Make an effort untill her Parliment Passes a bill.(what a load of bullshit)..

I wouldnt hold much hope for him considering the Plight of the Bali Nine who are also facing the death Penalty for the same charges and our good old aussie govenment aint
lifting a finger...

Were in the year 2005 people whats going on.?

Let the government do what they have to do. Everything will come in due time.

that's ridiculous. I don't believe in the death penalty as it is, but if you're going to use it as a 'punishment' at least use it on people that have inflicted that same fate on someone else. Needless to say i'll be sending an e-mail. I just hope enough people get on board to make a difference.

she didn't intentionally bring it

basically, she thinks someone put it in her bag.

She is getting 31 years i think...

It was 2 kilos of weed that a baggage handler put in her Bag.

she basically had 2-3 KG of shitty weed put into her bag by a baggage handler, then she got caught.

This happaned in thailand

it was a setup ofcourse... and she is doing something like 15+ years for something she didn't do :-(

I couldn't do it. If there was no way i could be released i'd kill myself.. i'd rather die than do 15+ years for something you didn't do!

The lady doing 15 years+ probably won't even make it out of a Thai prison alive. And this man's fuck up is none of my concern.

Did he have it up his ass? Sorry I'm just not in the mood to really carry on a real conversation tonight.
