View Full Version : Walking Life
Anyone seen this film......?
i've just got it and am waiting to watch it.....i might wait till i have some people round.....
but i was just wondering what your opinions of it were....
here is some info on it if you havent seen it
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243017/
if you cant be arsed to click the link here is a comment on it.....some people say its shit some say its amazing
"Okay, i haven't read any comments yet, but a lot of the "one line summaries" sound negative. I just finished watching this film, and registered an account with IMDb solely to speak of this film. These are the types of movies that we should be expecting from filmmakers today. Aren't we all tired of the blockbuster bullshit by now? True, it's not a "typical movie" and yes...it is a cartoon. But, the style is completely unique and entirely necessary for the story. If it were simply caught on film and released in that same manor, it would not have had the monstrous effect that it had, and it would not have come across in a way that would retain the interest of this generation's ADD youth (which SHOULD be it's primary demographic...they are the ones who can still change this world, and create the paradigm shift that is necessary) This movie is the fiber of all life, it IS that collective unconscious from which we all draw our own, personal beings. It explains the philosophies of years gone by and minutes gone by in a way that anyone could understand them. While I know that some closed minded people are going to be scared and confused by all of this necessary information, if only one mind is opened because of it, I know that Richard Linklater would be greatly pleased. "
is this that movie where this guy is stuck in his dream state and he talks to all sorts of people about dreaming, existentialism, etc.? i thought it was called waking life.

Thank you so much for making this thread!!! Otherwise I would have forgotten all about that movie today, but this got me thinking about it again, which then got me thinking about lucid dreams. I usually have lucid dreams after thinking about them, and I just took a nap for about two hours in which I had the most amazing lucid dream. I'm still amazed at how completely awesome it is to know you're inside a dream, to know everything is just in your head and you can do anything you can imagine. Fucking that Japanese girl was the best thing I've experienced since, well, my last lucid dream! :D

Waking Life is one of my favorites. I watched it then bought it. I lend it out to friends who need a little enlightenment and expansion of their minds.
I highly reccommend it. I watch it now and again for a little grounding.
enjoy!

You have to tell yourself to be calm. It gets easier with practice. I've only had them occasionally (like once every couple months or so) before I really started getting into them. But then about a week and a half ago I got my hands on a copy of the book Lucid Dreaming by Stephen LaBerge. I read half the book on the first day, and had an awesome lucid dream that night. That's what made me really start researching them. I had two more in the couple nights after that, but they only lasted a few seconds before I woke up. Then I started keeping a journal of my dreams and doing regular checks throughout the day to see if I'm awake. Since I started doing that about a week ago, I've had four more. Maybe I'm just a natural. In any case, it's really fucking awesome. :D

So basically you now have a fantasy land where you control every fucking thing that goes on, that you can visit every night.
You lucky bastard. :) I've only had a few lucid dreams..a couple felt like actual real life (moreso than normal). Like..I've said to myself..is this a dream? Naw, it can't be, this is real..and then once i woke up i realized I could've done whatever I wanted! (it was like a situation where I wouldn't have done something in real life, but gone ahead in the dream).

I have been doing it as long as I remember.
It takes some practice to have them at will and to be able to be aware and not compromise the experience. I suppose the biggest obsticle to overcome is suprise and doubt. At the moment of reaslisation it is easy to bet excited. This alone can kick you back to a state closer to consciousness. When you feel suprise and excitement then doubt is not far behind. Its like "wow! look at this!I cant believe it!...." then 'pow' back to waking reality.
If you can curb the doubt by experience you will be one step closer to being fluid with it.
The easiest way to accomplish this is by deliberate attempts to experience 'lucid dreams'. Through deliberate attempts you will come to expect it to happen and be less likely to sabotage your own experiences.
A good book I can recommend for techniques is "Adventures beyond the body" by William Buhlman.
There are many techniques to set yourself on a wondeful journey, this book explores some of them. Your beliefs may not be the same as Mr Buhlman but the practicle ideas will work regardless of your beliefs.
Have fun!

hehe I just read your other post mellow...never mind about what I said about beliefs....it is obvious you are on the same page. Astral Projection and 'lucid dreaming' are closely related. The major difference is awareness and intent . Words cannot contain the wonder of this experience.

I really like that movie. It's fun to watch and see which character represents which philosopher / writer / whatever. My film teacher is the guy who lights himself on fire; it was filmed right down the street from my house.

Hey monkey man....
I can do the same kind of thing.....when I was younger I used to be able to change my dream at will.....or if I wanted to i could go backwards in my dream and change things....kind of like a rewind or a "do over." I don't know if that makes any sense.....but I havenā??t done that in a long time.
The weirdest thing is the only time I remember my dreams is during the daytime. Sometimes I'll get the opportunity to take an hour and a half / two hour nap during the day.....and I'll have very vivid dreams......but NEVER at night.
