Assalamu alaikum and Hello

I'm not sure if this the right place to post a question, sorry about that.

When you are high on Cannabis, is it like being drunk with alcohol?

Does regular Cannabis use make you lazy?

Thanks!

Being high is NOTHING....i repeat NOTHING like being drunk...And no it doesnt make you lazy, but if you are lazy its very easy to blame the weed.
I would say the majority of the people here prefere to smoke than to drink.

they are very different
when you are drunk you have a lot less control and are alot more likely to be sick, say stupid things and just make a fool of yourself
being stoned, youre in control, theres so much more to it, but i cant explain..

Thanks guys.

What about addiction? Say compared to caffeine and nicotine?

it depends on your own mind.. do you think youll get addicted?
its certainly not physically addictive, mentally it can get to a few people but they do ask for it..
but anyway, id say its less addictive then caffeine..

I think it's pretty much impossible to explain being high to someone who has only experienced alcohol. Some people do have a problem with addiction (I have a small problem getting over the first dry day but after that there's no problem) but it's all mental.

yeh i wondered if that was common
the only time i feel addicted, is when i actually have some, strange it seems, but when ive got some, i smoke it, want/buy more and smoke more :) but when i wake up after a heavy night of smoking all my weed and have none left, i feel no addiction at all, and could go from that day, to the end of my life without smoking

of course im not going to though :D

Thanks for your replies.

I don't drink alcohol due to religious observance.

So there's no "cold turkey" thing?

Not really. You can become what they call "psychologically addicted". Which basically means you don't want to stop because you enjoy it, and when you're not high maybe you wish you were. But this is not the same as being phsyically addicted to caffeine, nicotine, alcohol or any other truely addictive substance. You can become psychologically addicted to pretty much anything that changes your state of mind in even an obscure way (excercise, food, or even doing math...).

No, I disagree. You can be physically addicted to weed, you just have to be careful not to go crazy with it. Yes, psychological addiction is more likely, but when you start suffering from insomnia, feel anxious, get night sweats and get jittery, not to mention loss of appetite, EVEN WHEN WEED ISNT ON YOUR MIND AND YOU STOP WANTING TO SMOKE, then, what else can it be? Those are physical withdrawal symptoms, and if I smoke a bunch of weed then stop cold turkey, I start suffering from those symptoms. And lets not kid ourselves. This happens to a lot of people, many of whom I personally know. They need it everyday just to go to sleep. That said, cigarette withdrawal symptoms can be much worse.

Well if they have to smoke they must require medical marijuana.

That's ridiculous. I've never in my life met or heard of anybody having psychical withdrawal symptons due to Cannabis. Even government studies say that it is psychologically addictive. If it was psychically addictive don't you think they would say that too?

According to NORML (http://www.norml.org);

"According to the IOM, observable cannabis withdrawal symptoms are rare and have only been identified under unique patient settings. These remain limited to adolescents in treatment facilities for substance abuse problems, and in a research setting where subjects were given cannabis or THC daily"

Ok.. lets ask the rest of the people here. Has anyone smoked 10 joints a day for months of years, then suddenly stopped? How did your body react? Be honest, now. And I dont see what the big deal is if one day its proven that it is physically addictive. Its not like it would deal a major blow to the marijuana movement. Alcohol can be physically addictive. You just have to make sure you dont overdo it. And of course some people can smoke enormous amounts of pot and not become addicted. Everybodys body is different. Some people can smoke two packs of cigs a day and quit cold turkey and be fine aftwards.

In the meantime, here are some studies that show that pot may produce symptoms of withdrawal. Of course more research needs to be done, but I think it would be naive to say that there is no evidence whatsoever of physical withdrawal symptoms.

I tend to smoke less if i know i have a stash,
so say i have an oz of green in my cupboard it would last longer than say scoring an eighth every other day.

i would say i am addicted just like it a lot...

just thought id say

Withdrawal symptons caused by psychologically addictive substances can manifest themselves as phsyical symptons, such as insomnia. Insomnia is usually a psychological disorder, not caused by any psychical problem. Cannabis is an appetite stimulant therefore when regular Cannabis used is stopped or reduced, you may feel like you are losing your appetite when in actual fact your appetite is only returning to normal.

Of course this is only hypothesis. I have no facts to back these assessments up, but due to the fact that many sources claim Cannabis to not be phsyically addictive and to not cause phsyical withdrawl symptons, I can therefore assume that the symptons you have encountered are caused by your psychological addiction to Cannabis.

woah! I read this in one of the links:

Robin Murray, a psychiatrist at King's College London, is one of Britain's leading researchers in this area and his results are worrying. "The conclusion was that, if you took cannabis at age 18, you were about 60% more likely to go psychotic. But if you started by the time you were 15, then the risk was much greater, around 450%," he says.

Luffy,
What religous observance do you belong to that does not allow alcohol - but allows other substances?

just wondering - don't be offended.

I saw that too, luffy. Looks like there's a %450 chance that i'm gonna develop some sort of psychosis. Ah well.

I'm Muslim so we don't drink alcohol or take any intoxicants.

With cigarattes/tobacco initially not much was known, so tobacco was given a "disliked" rating cause it smelled bad. Now it's known that tobacco causes cancer and so on, now it's given a "forbidden" rating.

From what I've read so far, cannabis is not an intoxicant. So the question is, does it cause damage like tobacco?
