View Full Version : Does this sound reasonable to you?

My parents tell me I'm not allowed to sleep at my boyfriends house, that they absolutely forbid it. But when I call them at night they won't pick me up. It's over an hour to walk home so what can I do? I have to sleep there.
They tell me they want me to finish high school, that its a necessity. But they wont pay 100 dollars for me to finish the one class I need.
I dont think this is reasonable. How can I explain it to them?

Well, it is kind of hard to say, we don't know all the details.
I find it funny that your folks would pay for your schooling all the way up to this point, then not pay for this one class? Sounds fishy to me. Was this perhaps a class you failed and now you have to take it again? If that is the issue, then no, in my opinion, you should pay for it. You fucked it up the first time, you only get one shot, then if you want to take it again, then you should have to pay for it. Do it right the first time. And a $100 is not hard to earn. Get an after school job or a weekend job. That $100 can easily be made in 16hrs of work.
An hour walk? That isn't the end of the world. Get walking, buy a bike, take the bus. Your parents shouldn't have to come pick you up because little miss princess wants a ride home.
Damn...kids got it easy these days. Spend 2hrs with my dad and things won't be sweet. Walking won't kill you, and earning a $100 won't kill you. If you think that is hard, you got a tough life ahead of you.

Rock, yes I had a phase of that. I have been clean for over 4 months. Smack was something a tried but never got into, probably because of limited availability. I fail to see how this is relevant, however.

Ride your horse home if your allowed to ride it? If not sell it and get a moped (scooter) or bicycle.

As for the walking home thing, eh, if you don't feel safe I understand. Ask them if it's just the hour that bothers them, & if so, ask what time would be more reasonable for them to come get you as you don't feel safe walking at night. Then be sure to call them by this time.
With the class, I agree... if you failed it, you should take the initiative to pay for the retaking. Babysit, clean houses, etc. if you don't want a 'real' job. Of maybe ask your parents if you can 'work' for them to earn the money (washing/detailing the cars, yardwork, housework, errands, etc.).
But like chowder said, hard to really say without knowing the full story. Best of luck to you anyway! :)

Its relevant, because maybe they have Trust issues with you now and want to know your Safe at Night and not out Rocking It Up! I mean they don't know who your mixing with, do they?

Your parents aren't your fuckin taxi cab or a pick up service. It's called responsibility. If I was your folks, I wouldn't let you out of the goddamn house by the sounds of it. They want you home so you don't relapse on drugs. They aren't your servants and you can't tell them what to do. You are under their house, their rules, their way. Until you start paying rent and paying your way, I suggest you do what they say. An hour is fuck all girl. Stop being so fuckin lazy and move that ass and get it home. Buy a bike. You can speed home on a bike in no time. Get a DL maybe, learners permit. Get a job, take the bus, pay for a taxi.

Hmmm, I remember when I was younger, I walked everywhere I went...all hours of the night. If I didn't want to walk home at night, I left the place early enough so I can be home at a reasonable time. Can your boyfriend walk you home? I just think that as long as you live with your parents, you have to respect their rules. I didn't ask my parents for much. I figured they did enough for me so I wanted to let them know that I can be responsible enough to take care of myself. You have a whole life ahead of you to do whatever you want and stay wherever you want with whomever you want.
You can try to talk with your parents so you can at least understand where they are coming from.

Not to mention your lazy ass boyfriend could fine a way to get you home. (and how did you get to his house in the first place) Maybe HIS parents could take you home.
Yes, your drug issues are relevant because I remember a post a long time ago when you thought your parents were being mean because they wanted you to ride your fucking horse every once in a wile and they wanted to know where you were after school because the knew about your drug problem.
If you were my daughter this thread wouldn't be an issue because you wouldnâ??t have a fucking boyfriend.

Heres how i got my parents to let me do whatever. Get a job, get OK grades (i got around 2.8 all through highschool) and dont argue with them. My sister was the opposite and my parents allways got into fights with her. When i got caught smoking bud my parents didnt flip because i am responsible.

I'm with you Smokey. I am smart but didn't apply myself and had around a 2.9-3.0 GPA (Just graduated this June) but I have had a job since before I turned 16 (January 2003) and am responsibile and don't make stupid choices. They let me do whatever I want, for the most part (within reason).

holy shit some of you people seem very bitter. I'm glad Im not like that.
my boyfriends living arrangements are different from most. I'm not going into detail, but he does not have parents that will drive me home. I get to his house by bus. I do not have money to take the bus back in the evening. Im not going to ask him to walk me home, he would just say sleep at my house anyway.
I never thought my parents were mean for wanting me to ride my horse more. If thats how that came out, well thats not what i meant.

come on guys! Am I the only one here that thinks this is really bullshiting parenting? They told her not to sleep over his house but they wont pick her up! Its really stupid!!!! Shit if my parents did that to me (which they wouldent) i'de be very pissed off.
i figure your learning responsibility the hard way....im 20 and i still gotta walk home everynight....its about an hour walk from my mates which isnt too bad if your listening to music or got somthing to take your mind off it...i get soooo paranoid when the street lights stop, i think im halucinating the most of the time...(cause im stoned and i worry about shit)
my GF is also 20 and her parents wont let me stay at hers, imo this is being a little over protective but what can you do...i have no idea why they wont let me stay.....maybe their worried about her getting pegnant or somthing...but her parents are really nice people and have nopthing against me.....to my knowledge.
there really isnt a lot you can do....do as theysay before they say it to inpress them.

you may disagree to this all you like but it is the honest truth...........when your under your parents roof you have to obey their rules..........you may not like it and they may even not like it but rules are there for a reason.

My parents dont like me. Ever since way before I had ever tried anything other than pot, they were constantly hassling me to change the way i dress, the way i talk, my values and opinions. They told me they were ashamed to bring me to functions they attented (my dad being a doctor) because I shop at thrift stores. They bought my brother a car, give his as much money for booze on the weekends as he could possibly want, bought him a mac laptop, ipod, they paid for him to live in an expensive house in calgary, and they even pay for his fucking gas. I asked for new shoes because mine had holes in the bottom and was told i could damn well get a job and pay for it myself. Oridnarily, that would be reasonable. But not when my brother gets every single fucking thing he asks for, no questions asked. The favoritism in my family is sick. I dont understand it at all.
Like i said, this was before I experimented with anything. I was even a virgin lol. But I began to not really give a fuck if what i did bothered my parents, because they could care less about me. I thought i would at least give them a viable reason to hate me.
Now all the drug shit and not living at home is in the past. It has been for a few months. I quit all drugs exept pot, lsd, mushrooms, all on my own accord, no help from them. I dont do anything they wouldnt approve of at home. They dont like me smoking pot but they accept the fact that i often do when I'm out. I still dont dress the way the want me to, or have the same opinions on basically everything about life, but I dont see that as any reason to treat me as such a lesser to my brother.

I have a nephew thank you very much. I've been raising him for 3 years now because his real parents rather be getting high than taking care of their kid. So I have some, issues, with spoiled brats and crackheads. Really smart girl...I know where you'll be in 5 years. Good luck in life. :(

Powair, I can somewhat, relate to your situation since my younger sister was my parents's favorite. My parents celebrated my birthday maybe twice (?) in my entire life but for my sister's birthday, it was trips to Canada, or wherever she wanted to go and it was celebrated every year. She always wore name-brand clothes and I don't remember getting "new" school clothes. I don't believe that my parents hated me. They have also said to me, when I was younger, that I embarrassed them because of the way I dressed and looked.
Still, I never thought to disrespect them and I eventually came to terms with how they treated me and how they treated my sister. I love my parents and my sister. I knew that if I didn't accept how things were, I was the one that was going to be stuck in that miserable way of thinking and maybe even do things, bad things, to myself to numb the pain. I would've paid for it, in the long run.
You DO have the power to change how you feel. You just have to be strong enough, for yourself, to have a healthy outlook on life.
