I've been smoking pot for about a week, every time the first 10 minutes my heart would beat like crazy, but I didnt really care, because hey, I'm high right :)

The last time it was going alot faster than usual, I managed to time it (while i was high) and it was 170bpm. And now, today, my heart feels really bad. I feel like someone has their fist on my heart all day. And if I try and run or do anything that makes my heart beat faster, I just can't, it goes way too fast and feels awful.

Is this common? Does it go away after more usage/tolerance?

Probably cuz your new, everyone's heart beats faster, some up to 2 times faster when their high, but you probably wont have problems after getting high soon, just try it out a few more weeks.

Just try to relax and do everything slowly if it bothers you.

You will probably be fine as long as u don't have a weight problem.. one time i was on adderall and coke at the same time and my heart was beating 180 beats a minuet. (not saying that just to beat you) and i was fine. im no doctor but from what i unerstand if u don't have high colesteral you'll will probably be fine. but then again...im not doctor, but hey, if u die at least u'll be high doin it ;)

although weed does speed up your heart somewhat, 170bpm resting is somewhat dangerous. especially if you're feeling heart problems the day after. it'd help if you could tell me what your resting heart rate is so i'd have something to go off of. You could just have a naturally fast heart beat, which could be caused by not enough exercise or cardiac arythmia. this is all speculation of course, but i only tell you to try and encourage you to see a doctor if the pain keeps up, or before you plan on smoking again.

My resting beat is 74, and I excercise frequently and it gets up to about 140-150 when i excercise.

This happens alot because when you smoke less oxygen is getting into your lungs, causing your heart to beat faster. All you should have to do is relax for a minute, and get some air, you'll be fine. Hope this clears somthing up.

P.S. - However, 170BPM IS a little extreme, and if you've had prior heart problems you had best stop smoking it, or at least get a nice vaporizer.

thats another reason why vaporisers are good, smoke has the effect, as check minus said, of reducing oxygen supply to the organs, yer heart beating faster when youve been smoking is compleatly normal, and providing u dont do it to often, not very dangerous, its the smoke that reduces the oxygen supply, so if you vaporize even though yer heart will still beat faster, yer organs will be able to get a decent amount of oxygen. but the real trick to avoiding getting paranoid about yer heart rate when stoned is to not think about it!

If you can find an O2 tank you oughta have a verry good time... but other than that the trick is to get some air when you need it (breathe deep for a while to get O2 in, take a hit, then deep breaths of fresh air), make sure your diet is good (take vitamins perhaps) and get a good run in every now and then to make sure your ticker is in tip-top shape.

Some of it can be lack of O2 then paranoia, just lean back and breathe deep, put on some Floyd and meditate, breath in and out deep and relax, if you get all worry pushed out of your head while doing breathing exercies your heart rate sould be lowered majorly... when your in a pool next, try holding your breath for long amounts of time, the human body can do many things if you condition it to.
