Drugs are bad....mmmmkay?

Just wondering...how did people on here first get told that smoking pot or doing other drugs were bad? Did you parents sit down with you and have "the talk" about drugs. Did you hear from gym teachers at school? Was it your probation officer who first told you????

My first and only introduction that I can remember came in the 8th grade. We got this stupid sex video with stick figures to teach us about "reproduction", followed the next week or so by forcing us to watch "Reefer Madness". Our junior high football coaches told us after the movie that we'd go insane just like the characters in the movie did if we smoked pot. I was sooooooo unworldly and naiive to things like that, but even I spoke up and said something like "Coach, nobody believes smokers act like that. We all know people who smoke, and none of them act like that." Funny thing is that I had never even seen pot, had no idea exactly how you used it or how it affected you, but knew that story they were telling us was total B.S.

If memory serves, I got to run a BUNCH of windsprints for making my comments.

Then I had to defend myself that I wasn't a drug user to the principal, coaches, my parents, etc. All because they chose to lie to us, and didn't want anyone to speak up.

my buddy from school got a joint from his older brother.. and we smoked it down at the patch of woods near the train tracks.. never looked back after that .. .. the school told us all kinds of propaganda like pot is just as addictive as coke or heroin and it will make you sterile and grow tits on men ..ect ect youve heard it all before im sure..but they didt have that shit they got now trying to turn kids in to snitchs... that's just wrong making kids believe thier parents need "help" because they smoke weed and then they "help" them by putting them in jail and taking thier kids away from them ..

My first recollections come from elementary school. I remember having a health teacher that told the class that acid stays in your body forever.
Then middle school I had this guy telling us that pot caused damage to the reproductive system and made your dick shrink.
Freshmen year of highschool a different health teacher asked the class to write an essay about what we thought the government should do about drugs, to be rebellious my thesis was that they should be legalized and I surprised even myself by comming up with several reasons. That started a debate with the teacher that lasted until the end of the year, his only remaining argument was that he feared more people would use drugs if they were legal.

I went to elementary school in the years of the Nancy Reagans "Just Say No" campaign. We were bombarded with all kinds of propaganda in the form of cheesey comic books, stupid videos, ribbons and buttons.

I heard all kinds of shit like that, and was probably scared shitless of drugs until like middle school when curiosity takes over. Then it was like smoke a few cigarettes to be cool or impress someone, and then it's like "holy fuck I didn't die, fuck all of that bullshit". And then I heard about other people using shit and realized it was nothing like the bullshit they we're feeding us in school and it all gradually progressed. I wish I never did try cigarettes though, now that I think about it, they actually weren't lying to me. I'm addicted as a mother fucker, and probably would pick out of garbage cans for cigarettes if I didn't have any money.

I remember DARE in the fifth grade. For a while I thought that weed really was as bad as they say, that it would completely and irreversibly change your brain chemistry for the worse (somehow), and so forth, until I noticed my sister smoking it and not suffering any ill effects. The people who told me that drugs were bad were my junor high teachers. They wouldn't preach it or nothing, but if it came up in class, we were kicked out in the hall for speaking "bad" things.

My parents never once told me that MJ was dangerous. The first time I got busted smoking it, I was on my front step, coughing my ass off. My dad got up, came out and said, "what are you tokin up?"..."ya I am, you busted me"..."well keep it down, I can hear you coughing from the backyard" The morning after he found me passed out on the couch, my pipe laying on the table. He told me, "If you smoke pot, I don't care. I can't give you shit for something I do, but if you smoke crack, I'll kick your fucking ass"...that was all. Pot has always been accepted in our family. I told my grade 9 principal he was dickhead because my buddy was joking around that I stole a scale from the lab. My principal says, "what, to weigh your drugs on?" I said ya dickhead, so what? Ah...to be young again.

when I was in fith grade I had DARE and shit. I didn't agree with any of that stuff, 'cause I allways had my sister to set me strait. I never even wrote my final essay thing, I had my mom write it. I always liked DARE though, cause I got a free t-shirt and discount ID that I was only spose to use for a year, I scraped off the experation date, and used it for three years. lol good times

we had some cop in fith grade come for dare and he was sayin if you smoke pot it will get you high then the next time you will need twice as much and then blah blah blah and then you will need it to feel normal and all kinds of b/s and he said your tolerence will always remain the same and you will forget everything and just the usual crap

I remember being told that smoking pot kills brain cells permanently. I wanted to know if something could be killed temporarily....I didn't draw a laugh at all. Just stern looks and a warning to keep my mouth shut.

I also remember being told that if you drop acid, something that was VERY common in the 70's, it would never leave your body, and you'd have flashback trips for the rest of your life. Hell, that made all the kids want to try it even more!!!

Know what's sad? I think that most police and anti-drug propagandists truly believe all the nonsense they tell kids. They have convinced themselves that smoking pot is against Christianity, against all morals, against all decent human behavior. So they are easy to convince that all those ridiculous stories about going insane the first time you try it, etc, are true. And then the stories just keeping spreading to the next generation of kids who realize they are being lied to, so they tune out their parents, teachers, etc.

You're right, in fact they are so convinced that pot is evil that they immediately discount any arguments to the contrary since they already "know" them to be false before even looking into the matter.

Also had to go to a stupid little kids rehab for weed, stupid rediculous shit, they kept insisting that everyone who smokes weed does heroin and shit.

Mmm. i must have been in school, in RE or something. I thought that all people that done drugs were junkie fools. The at 16, i had a yogurt with dope in and i was converted. My mother always said that if you do dope it leads to harder drugs! What bull shit, ive been smoked for almost 7 years and i've only taken a few E and no other drugs, Cannabis is good. It should be available in the supermarket

I've had my dose of " anti-pot" programs

first off, in fifth grade we had Dare.
So some cop comes in, has a gun on his belt etc. , and starts talking to us about the dangers of drugs and alcahol. a couple problems, every 15 minutes he would start talking about his new born baby that his wife just had. He'd tell us things like that marijuana will kill your brain ( and possibly making you "retarted"), and how marijuana will make you addicted after the first puff.

Most people didn't take it seriously, i thought it was hillarious.

In 6th grade, i basically had the same thing... but it was called family life and they had like a short 2 hour session on drugs. Again funny stuff, i remember my teacher said " you shouldn't eat magic mushrooms because they grow on cow shit"...

In 8th grade, i got caught. Was sent to a class for 10 weeks ( 2 hours a week ) ...
basically, we played drug jerporady

I've been bombareded in every catergory. School home the whole shabangabang. Which is ironic because my dad is the biggest pothead i know. both my parents used to do coke, my mom one time accidentaly gave my bro and i hash brownies cuz she was high ( yea i know it sounds like fun but i was 4)....my gym teacher in charge of dare was arrested at school on red ribbon week for poseeion of meth coke and weed and all this from supposedly the best school system in georgia..btw im pretty sure i was born a coke baby. anyway, i know the teacher thing sounds fake but i garuntee that its the truth. But the worst part of all was the damn animal show. they were in the animal suits and crap. and of course the shady dealer was a vulcher the cop a bulldog and the buyers was the young influencial turtle. maybe i wouldnt have ended up on drugs if at the end they didnt take the masks off. Seeing a bulldog pull his head off is emotionally scarring for 2nd graders...its been downhill ever since. God bless weed
