Drugs are bad....mmmmkay?

Just wondering...how did people on here first get told that smoking pot or doing other drugs were bad? Did you parents sit down with you and have "the talk" about drugs. Did you hear from gym teachers at school? Was it your probation officer who first told you????

My first and only introduction that I can remember came in the 8th grade. We got this stupid sex video with stick figures to teach us about "reproduction", followed the next week or so by forcing us to watch "Reefer Madness". Our junior high football coaches told us after the movie that we'd go insane just like the characters in the movie did if we smoked pot. I was sooooooo unworldly and naiive to things like that, but even I spoke up and said something like "Coach, nobody believes smokers act like that. We all know people who smoke, and none of them act like that." Funny thing is that I had never even seen pot, had no idea exactly how you used it or how it affected you, but knew that story they were telling us was total B.S.

If memory serves, I got to run a BUNCH of windsprints for making my comments.

Then I had to defend myself that I wasn't a drug user to the principal, coaches, my parents, etc. All because they chose to lie to us, and didn't want anyone to speak up.

my buddy from school got a joint from his older brother.. and we smoked it down at the patch of woods near the train tracks.. never looked back after that .. .. the school told us all kinds of propaganda like pot is just as addictive as coke or heroin and it will make you sterile and grow tits on men ..ect ect youve heard it all before im sure..but they didt have that shit they got now trying to turn kids in to snitchs... that's just wrong making kids believe thier parents need "help" because they smoke weed and then they "help" them by putting them in jail and taking thier kids away from them ..

My first recollections come from elementary school. I remember having a health teacher that told the class that acid stays in your body forever.
Then middle school I had this guy telling us that pot caused damage to the reproductive system and made your dick shrink.
Freshmen year of highschool a different health teacher asked the class to write an essay about what we thought the government should do about drugs, to be rebellious my thesis was that they should be legalized and I surprised even myself by comming up with several reasons. That started a debate with the teacher that lasted until the end of the year, his only remaining argument was that he feared more people would use drugs if they were legal.

I went to elementary school in the years of the Nancy Reagans "Just Say No" campaign. We were bombarded with all kinds of propaganda in the form of cheesey comic books, stupid videos, ribbons and buttons.

I heard all kinds of shit like that, and was probably scared shitless of drugs until like middle school when curiosity takes over. Then it was like smoke a few cigarettes to be cool or impress someone, and then it's like "holy fuck I didn't die, fuck all of that bullshit". And then I heard about other people using shit and realized it was nothing like the bullshit they we're feeding us in school and it all gradually progressed. I wish I never did try cigarettes though, now that I think about it, they actually weren't lying to me. I'm addicted as a mother fucker, and probably would pick out of garbage cans for cigarettes if I didn't have any money.

I remember DARE in the fifth grade. For a while I thought that weed really was as bad as they say, that it would completely and irreversibly change your brain chemistry for the worse (somehow), and so forth, until I noticed my sister smoking it and not suffering any ill effects. This got me curious, and a couple years later, I'm as big of a pothead as she is. Ain't life grand?
