The balloon trick also works for spilled coke or whatever. Obviously, a clean carpet to start with provides best results MacGyver ... that's funny. Forgot where I got that trick from.

If you spill weed or other items on the carpet, get the vaccum hose and place a pair of nylons over the hose nozzle then suck away all the larger particles will stick to the outside of the nylons while sucking up any particles small enough to fith through the nylons. Works for coke too.

Warning: do not use fish net stockings :)
