I am new to growing outdoors. So Im making this thread to log all of my progress and for others to input there knowledge. I started a little early but I live in california and its already been hitting 80 degrees everyday. Im only growing 2 plants from seed, both are the same unknown "purple" strain. Enough talk, heres some pics.

This is from the beginning of Week 1, I germinated the seeds using the paper towel technique and put them in these ceramic pots with Miracle Grow potting soil

290957

By the end of Week 1 they started to turn a little yellow and I was concerned but I figured it was because it was a little early to start growing.

290958

Beginning of week 2 started to show some growth. I havent used any nutes yet.

290959

These are from today, Week 3.
I transplanted them out of the ceramic pots to these 7 gallon plastic pots a few days ago. because I hear nothing but bad stuff when using the ceramic ones. They seem to be liking their new homes  (both pots have probably only 5gallons of fresh miracle grow soil in them because I didnt have enough) The one on the left has always seemed a bit bigger for some reason, hopefully its not male. I also started using a very small dose of Fox farm Grow big (2teaspoons per gallon) and in the past 2 days they are growing much faster.

So thats it for now, any input is greatly apreciated!

easy with the grow big its strong. i wouldnt use more than 25% of the recommended ratio especially where they are in perfertilized soil. just keep an eye out for burn.

Im also dealing with a pest problem already and I wana nip it in the ass now instead of later.

Those obviously arent my plants haha those are my moms roses. But everyday, around 3 of these fuckers will fly over and land on my babies :wtf: I just pluck them off, they dont seem to be doing any damage but they dont look pretty and I dont want them to take over like they did with the roses. What pesticides do you guys recommend? Or is there an organic solution that I could try?

holy crap that is one of the worst infestations i have seen in a loong while.....thats bad juju. kill them with extreme prejudice. never had a problem like that. my old man used to use tobacco juice and a tiny bit of dish soap on his roses. not sure what a good commercial solution is. probably anything that will kill aphids.

I will do that to the roses to test it out, but if they infest my babies would it cause damage if I sprayed the leaves? Not in direct sunlight of course

Yup, my girl recommended spraying a little dish soap (have an organic based) & performed gr8t. Watch the ladies cuz they will hop on board!!! Had an infestation on my indica's & they were fubar (toast). With that said ur girls look nice. I'm working my babes indoors for now & hopefully move outdoors soon. We should compare notes cuz I'm approx. 2 weeks behind you. Oh, don't over water!! Peace

Thank you.
I have a 6 foot fence and a shit ton of tweekers in my neighborhood, so Im already getting parinoid lol. Im planning on putting some barbwire up and a trip wire that goes to a small alarm once they start flowering. But Im debating doing LST or fimming them so they arent sticking their beautiful coloas over my fence. Any thoughts? Ive never done it but it seems pretty easy to do

Both plants are getting attacked by what I believe are Thrips.
They sorta look like caterpillars but they dont crawl around like a caterpillar, the run and hop like fleas.

About three days ago, the taller plant had a spot on one of its leaves. It was the first sign of damage on either plant, so I flipped it over and sure enough there was one of these "thrips"

The next day it turned into these brown spots, but after I removed the pest, no further damage was done to my girl.
290980

Yesterday I noticed a few walking around on the shorter plant and they left these little white dots.
290978290979

So I used a mixture of plant based biodegradable dish soap and water and sprayed both plants. I believe it got rid of them.
But I still found an aphid on my taller plant this morning so I still have to figure out how to get rid of those.

try neem oil. u can get it at ur local gardening stores...pretty cheap and organic....it makes the bugs retarted or something. they stop mating and eating and die

I know that these are not spider mites but I had a problem with spider mites during my last grow which was indoors. I sorted it out by mixing few drops of neem oil and dish soap in water and giving my girls a good shower just before lights out, because the oil will magnify the light and your girls will burn. I did this every other day for a week, then I put a few drops of the neem oil into the feed every week while in flower and problem sorted.

Why am I seeing orange hairs?!?!?! There are these 4 pistols where the second set of nodes were on the taller plant. Both plants are now on their 4th set of nodes and there arent any other hairs.. Do you think its because maybe it started to flower prematurely, and then kicked back into veg?

I figured I would post an update every week or so. So here ya go, about to finish Week 3 of veg. The shorter plant is starting to catch up in height, and is alot wider now too. Im also getting a few more plants from a buddy this week or the next. Supposed to be some trainwreck.:smokin:

Not much of an update, but I got another plant from a buddy a few days back. He said it was some kind of purp. So now I have 3 unknown purple strains and I have 2 Blue Dream seeds germinating and they should be planted in a few days. I also topped the two oldest girls today, I believe it was their 8th node. And I bought some neem oil that Im planning on using on a 7 day schedule.

Im also thinkin about building a greenhouse. Ive searched around and most people say its the best way to grow outdoors. But I have a feeling it will get extremely hot in this california weather. I mostly want to build it to help with insects and thieves. But what are some advantages and disadvantages to growing in a greenhouse, compared to keeping them outside in direct sunlight? Which will most likely yield the most buds? And which is easier for a first time grower? Thanks in advance.

Looking very good, I love your beating the bugs. Make your greenhouse so you can vent it, saw some photovoltaic fans just for grow tunnels. In fact you might look into grow tunnels, super f easy to build.

I have to share this with you guys lmao. So I found a lady bug chillin on the topsoil and it gave me an idea. Why not go round up a bunch of them and set them on my ladies lol. So I did. I put around 3-4 on each plant. But little did I know, these ladybugs were very horny. :S2:

291271

After 5 min of watching them, they started moving around. Then 2 of them on each plant starting fucking on my little girls hahaha.

291272

Now you guys can say youve seen ladybugs get dirty. lol

Quick question.
I topped the too oldest plants beacause I want them more bushy instead of tall. But after a few days I think I FIM'd them. (Fuck I missed). So my question is will each of these nodes sprout 2 sun leaves? So will it have 4 instead of the regular 2? Thanks.

291295

[EDIT] Also. How many times can you top your plant during veg before it starts to become unhealthy? How long should I wait until I top again?

Only time will tell. :)

Depends on how healthy it is when you start, yah?

I let mine get 2 sets of leaves between nips.
I stop when the branches begin to alternate.
(That means it's ready to flower)

The little purp that I got from my buddy is now 4 weeks old and got her first feeding. I am now using just under 1 tsp per gallon every other watering, because some of the mature leaves on my older girls started to burn.

291360

My older girls are finally recovered from me topping them and Im very satisfied on how they turned out.

291361

The mature leaves are almost bigger than my hands now. And the stocks are twice as thick.

291362

Lots of under growth appeared after the topping.

Im still dealing with those flea like bugs, I relized that they can fly and they are pretty much like nats but they are to small to capture on my phone. Ive been using bayer advanced neem oil, (got rid of all the aphids) and started using 3 in 1 insect, disease and mite control (granules) today. I have the blue dream and a cheese seed germinated and in little solo cups for now and once they sprout Ill post another update. But thats it for now. Peace.
