View Full Version : Need advice ! Customs spotted my LED Grow light ! Should I risk growing ? Ireland

Hey all,
So my LED light arrived from the US to Ireland today.
Unfortunately the manufacturer had 'LED Light' and beside that 'Hydroponics" clearly written on the packaging for everyone to see !
So I had to sign for the package today because I had to pay â?¬60 in taxes to have it. Customs stopped it, opened the attached document in the plastic cover and proceeded to
read everything about the contents in the box. WTF ! That doesn't sound right to me.
So my question is: Should I not grow weed for the first 3 months and see if the cops come to my door with a search warrent ? Maybe put some strawberries ans tomatoes up
there instead ? If customs told the local cops then the cops would be smart enough to wait 2 months before raiding the house.
Any advice would be great. Maybe from a customs official if possible ;)
Thanks
S.L.

Also let me know if anyone in Ireland has experience of this sort of thing.
Thanks

Wow,,That's pretty stupid shipping something out like that with all the markings on the box,,they should have put a green weed leaf on the box while they're at it,,,,you should make the company that sent it to you aware of this for the future,,not sure what would really happen, your idea is the best at the present moment to grow tomatoes and cucumbers for awhile,,,why take chances? good luck!

it's always better to be safe than sorry
if space & money weren't an issue, i'd love to have a veggie grow room with fresh, organic tomatoes, cucumbers, and the works for the winter
that would be awesome!
for all the customs guys know, you might have some exotic reptiles or fish that require extra UV rays
well, we know what they were probably thinking, but there are legitimate uses for those bulbs too

very true Seeds, they might think its for something else.
Are you involved in Rhino Seeds directly ?
Just interested..

I am involved directly with the company - feel free to ask anything you want.
We joined thinking we could comp some seeds to members here, but there's no PM feature.
We're still working out the details - maybe a special hashtag through twitter for members here so they could enter some type of giveaway exclusively for cannabis.com members?
Anyway, if you're interested, our Twitter site was giving away some Snow Bud Feminized seeds just a few days ago.
I haven't had a chance to see if that promotion is over.

Oh cool.
I like to make grow logs and I was interested in growing some interesting strains. I make them on WordPress.
You can see my last grow log in my signature. I would love to grow some colourful strains. All LED and CFL.
I have a tent for 4 plants and a friend has a tent for 6 - 9. If you might be interested in doing some business I would be happy to show off your strains ;)
Just let me know through my grow log.

leprechaun - i'm going to ask around a little bit
would you be interested in a UK-based source for lights & such?
it might not completely bypass customs - that's a gray area for me, but you could avoid having hydro stamped all over it.
the US is so big & nothing internal goes through customs. in fact, there are plenty of legitimate storefront shops that sell nothing but hydroponic equipment. they probably never thought it would cause you a problem.

Not from Ireland, But I have a question: Is it illegal to grow your own vegetables and fruits in Ireland. If not, than its none of their business what kind of growing you are doing. Id maybe wait a few weeks before starting up. But like I said, they have no idea what kind of growing you are doing..

Crap ! If cannabinoidz is right then maybe I should hold off on letting my friend do a grow for a few months... It will just mean that she misses out on her first crop.
This isn't good. Cannabis-Seeds sent me on 10 seeds to try out but my tent can only handle 4 plants... Hmmm... I could send her 6 seeds outdoors though.
Any advice on what sort of plants she could grow over the next 3 months as a decoy ? Wonder would Chinese roses do it ? Or different types of cactus maybe.
I think it would be a very good idea for my friend not to grow this time around. The cops will take her whole set-up if she is found growing weed. Th light alone is worth €400... and the tent €250.
Anyone got any ideas on this ?

Have her plant some of those decorative bushes, the ones which leaves are similar to that of a pine tree. You can grow them as tall you want and thereby you'll have no limitations on the height of her weed. Just a thought.

You missed my point apreminin.
Im looking for ideas on plants she can grow in the tent so if the cops arrive she can simply say she is growing something like orchids instead of weed.
This should take the coppers off her trail. And she can also see orchids in the market.

You should wait at least 6 months, I live in Ireland too and its absolute war on weed here at the moment. My neighbour had two small plants growing and the GardaÃ* bust him and he got a large fines totalling €850.
