hi i'm new to growing cannabis and i thought my plant should have more bud on it at 3 weeks into flower.

i'm growing, the diamond girl
in a soil and pirlite mix 75% soil, 25% perlite.
under a 600w hps. no nuterants only water.
veged for 8 weeks from seed
been flowering for 3 weeks

any help would be great

Looks O.K. for 3 weeks into flower. I don't think you are going to get a small final harvest, those buds are going to explode in size over the next 4 weeks.

edit: Look into L.S.T. for your next grow, it will help you get a more even canopy and increase your efficiency/yield.

I think you are looking good there. It;s all about patience now.

PhatJay was right on the money when he talked about low stress training to make a lower, more even canopy. LST is basically bending the plant and tying it down. This creates more top colas.

Lots of bud heads, it works, I'm doing it right now as we speak. Well, I tied them down weeks ago :)

You can compare your grow with mine if you are wondering about how the buds are looking. I documented, with photos, every week of growth. I'm at harvest very soon, 2 weeks max.

I'm in week 11 of bloom by now too... Quite some time. I hope my grow will help you along. The link is in my signature. I went LED.

Take care

you should really feed that girl, it will fatten her up plenty in the next month. just flush before harvest.

Might be a good idea to start your own thread as your question is not directly related to this one. Jacking someone elses is considered bad ettiquette. :)

You will probably need them this grow. The plants food needs increase during the later stages of flowering. When you stated that you had used no nutrients I thought you meant "so far" which is normal in the earlier stages of a nuted soil grow.

5 weeks left in flowering so if i start using nuteriants now, when would i start to flush? i'm new to this growing lark. has anyone heard of starving plant of both water and light for 48 hours before harvest? i have heard of it but what dose it do? anyone please?? :rastasmoke:

Flush is between 7-14 days, depending on grow style and medium. The dark period you are talking about is called Stress Ripening, give it a google, there are mixed opinions about it.

Just keep an eye out for nute burn and red stalks (excess phosphorous). Looking forward to seeing the pics.

I would have expected her to fill out a bit more more than that. She is not hungry and looks healthy so I don't know why she hasn't filled out more. I had a look at the pic for the strain on two seedbank sites and the bud in the picture looked really small, yours look bigger than that pic already.

if i'm wanting bigger buds i might try growing big bud or big bang next time, not really impressed with how this strain is turning out

LST. should help next time round or you could try sog or scrog, those big colas are stopping you getting your light nearer to the rest of the plant. A better yielding strain will also help.

I think most first time growers are disappointed with the amount of bud they get. I grow White Rhino which is a big yielder, a friend of mine who has growing pretty much locked down was able to get 12oz of good bud (White Rhino) under a 600w HPS, but he had 4 smaller plants not one big one.

Also bear in mind that a lot of people exaggerate how much they crop.

How old they are also makes a massive difference. I was judging them as 5 weeks old, but in another thread you have said they are 4 weeks old. Your week 3 pics looked good, if these are 4 weeks then these look good, if they are 5 weeks then they might be a bit behind. Just 3 days can make a big difference...

http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/181831-phat-jays-2nd-grow-cfl-coco-w-pics-2.html#post2096069 < 2 pictures of the same bud taken 3 days apart.

You have done fine for a first grow. Also... even though this is supposed to be an 8 week strain, I would be tempted to push one of them to 9 weeks (depending on how they look).

yea mate like the idea about pushing towards the 9 weeks to try and get the most out of them, just dont want to leave them to long, need to get a 30 x magnifier to see when the tricombs start turning amber. is it about 90% amber tricombs for harvest? liked the pics of ur buds wouldnt beleve they were taken 3 days apart looks fat mate. for a bigger harvest what plant do u reconmend?

It is definitely worth getting a 30x magnifier. They are a cheap and useful tool for getting your grow right.

This thread post has a link to a site with some good pics and info on when to harvest....

I cannot really advise on strain. All I know is that WR is the best yielder I have found so far. Your strain is listed as producing 750 grams per square meter indoors, WR is listed as 900 grams per square meter.

I think your plants look great, and the final weeks of flowering really add weight and volume to your harvest, so just be patient and I'm sure you'll be satisfied with your first harvest. After all.. there are plenty of people out there who do not end up with something as good as you have on their first attempt... keep with it and you'll get better and better. I think its good to pick a strain you like and grow it out a few different times, trying different methods, before you rule it out as a weak yielder or something. Certain seemingly minor changes can cause large, positive reactions by your plants.

I do agree that nutes would be a great addition to your grow, even if it was some FF Beastie bloom in the last few weeks before you flush.

Just remember... even if your harvest isn't completely up to its maximum potential... there is still value in the lessons you've learned along the way, so don't be disappointed.
