I will say first off that you would be making a great investment going with the digital ballast.. I've had 10-15 different digital ones.. There are only 3 types I would recommend.. Not gonna say here which one I found to be the best! Simply because there will be conflicts of interests As far as the lamps go... I spent hundreds on finding the type that would work with the one I use now.. 4 years and no problems with lamp or ballast! I will say that any one you choose should not have a fan or an open end on it. That should narrow it down to the 3 I would recommend.

Depends on which type lamp you purchase... I use only SunMaster and Hortilux 1000 watt. The SunMaster is the best of the 2.. The Hortilux is a back up lamp... Go figure...

If I were going to run 1000K I would get a 600w ballast capable of firing two bulbs and run two lights instead. Much more efficient. You can run one when the other is not needed and you can cover more space with more light closer to the tops. If you are looking magnetic you can not beat the reliability or warranty of PowerHouse ballasts.

Hope you have a serious exhaust fan! Have we determined the room size? I didn't see it below but didn't look too hard either. It sounds like 1K may be too much for the space.
