What weapons can one carry legally?

My friends and I need to get armed because of some hobos that hang around a place we frequent, but I don't wanna get busted with an illegal weapon. My friend says any knife is legal to carry as long as the blade is less than 4 inches long. Anyone know?

conceled weapon laws vary from state to state and some local communitys have ordinances as well but i would try to just get along with them after many yrs of traveling in car and hitch hicking most hobo's i have come across are pretty laid back and as long as you dont bother them they wont bother you if you can make peace with them they may be a good asset to you by watching your back if you do the same for them

Seriously, you go out anticipating trouble, and you're more likely to find it. Somebody here already said to make peace with the bums; that's a pretty good idea. Maybe if you stayed away from areas you anticipate you might be attacked, you won't get attacked so much. Also, don't carry anything worth stealing, and fade into the background of wherever you are, to the best of your ability.
