Summary:

Cooked oil at 310 F for 30 minutes and it is all brown and I am worried that I ruined it :(

Details:

I usually make firecrackers, but I got some really primo bud and wanted to make sure I got the most out of it, so I decided on coconut oil instead of firecrackers for a better extraction.

I decarboxlated at 290 F for 7 minutes. I always do this, even for fire crackers.

Then I ground up the bud and dumped it in a glass bowl containing some melted coconut oil and stirred. It was a nice green color.

I put the bowl of ganja coconut oil in the oven at 310 F (155 C) for 30 minutes. I've used this temperature plenty of times before, but I usually dont have time to do it for 30 minutes.

To my horror, it was all brown and not great smelling. I don't know why this happened! I've even done 320 F for 20 minutes and it didn't turn brown.

I have an important concert to go to tomorrow and this was the last of my stash. Should I be worried that I ruined all the THC goodness or did I just destroy all the pigments and terpenes?

How bad is this? Suggestions for the future?

I know bumping threads is lame, but I'm leaving for that concert in a few hours

Ever tried to extract using butane? VERY easy and not a real risk if you just do it outside, I made some oil out of the leaves left from my plants last year and it produced oil but low grade and I won't waste butane on leaves again, I have a bunch of trim I'll use next time.

Please do it outside if using Butane...Seems more than a few people have blown themselves up around here lately doing it indoors. Just your refrigerator compressor turning on or a water heater click can blow you up. There are many electrical devices around that can cause a spark. If you must do it indoors turn off all your circuit breakers!!!!

The other replies did not read your post correctly. They are talking about oil for smoking, not food. I have used all types of cooking oils and sometimes yes, it can turn amber/brown depending on the plant matter. If it smells bad, or taste burnt, you probably lost most of the THC.
