I'm starting a new grow by putting some seed in damp paper towel. They should pop in 2-3 days and I'll put them into two window box planters. I have about 6-8 seeds each of four indica dominant strains as the last two grows were mostly sativas.

1) Vermont Bubblegum, seeds from my own grow in 2007

2) Nevilles Haze, from a European seed vendor. This strain was not haze at all, very indica looking and finished in 10 weeks in 2008. These seeds are feminized.

3) Mystery Seed, either my bubblegum or Foxy Seeds' Afghani Dream x BOG Medley from 2007

4) (Afghani Dream x BOG Medley) x Z11 indica, which is one of my creations from Afghani and Bubblegum.

Afghani Dream x BOG Medley is real good (I'm buzz-ed to the max on it this evening ;), the Z11 x Neville's Haze is curing but there should be some very nice phenos there, YUM!.
Before that I had SSH x NH, Blueberry x Bubblegum and Nevilles Haze. All those were awesome!
Early last year we had Dutch Passion Mazar, Super Silver Haze and Dutch Passion Blueberry. Each was very good in it's own way. I also ran NH, Z11 and G13 x NCDG. I had all male NH that time so I ran some seeds to get the Mr Nice Neville's Haze genetic so I crossed it with the one and only ever Z11 sativa dominant (Z 11 is a afghni x bubblegum sort of indica, though it isn't an IBL). Now I have that Z11 x NH seeds and this latest Z11 x NH selfed.

TMI?

I potted five more seedlings so now have around 20 or so little seedlings in week three. Not looking too bad, a little fert burned from the hot soil mix but they'll get over it. I'll post photos when they get some bigger. :stoned:

Starting out with the same batch of soil as last time with the same early results, too much fertilizer. So I'll just stay with water until they pick up their heads. Today I added a 400W MH. I'll keep an eye on them.

These are (2) Bubblegum and (3) Afghani Dream x Bog Medley
http://boards.cannabis.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=259633&stc=1&d=1290084690

These are from a seedbag that lost it's label. I thought it may be BG or the Afghani Dream x Bog Medley. Will wait to see how they look. They certainly are good germinators! I think they popped 100%.

These are from F2s I made from a bag I bought that was supposed to be Neville's Haze, but is certainly not any kind of haze. It's a decent indica hybrid so I'm growing it out again. I think I'll give it a new name just to make things easier. Cyril's Delight. My pal smoked some of this up with Cyril Neville, the musician and he was delighted to hear that it was named "Neville's Haze" and he enjoyed the buzz. Cyril is a big time cannabis and reggae lover and a cool musician.

The indica grow is in it's 4th week. I transplanted all 21 plants into 3 gallon bags. Many of the plants had health root systems but the five I transplanted two weeks ago had no root improvement. There's still room for all right now. The vegetative growth has not been great. I'm still waiting to see if I can identify the question mark strain compared to the others as they should be one of the other strains.

I topped all the plants over 12" to a max of 16". I'm working in a small footprint with limited light sources and the tops have been exploding.

Also after long consideration I have decided to work with my water Ph. My well water is hard and has a Ph of 7. I've had decent grows with this and little trouble so I just left it be. I will now be correcting the water and nute formulas to a lower Ph of 6. For the water it took about a tsp/gal to lower it. I haven't tried lowering the Ph of a nute solution yet.

No additional plants showing sex yet, just a few of each strain are female so far. No males yet. I have to re-arrange the grow soon, spread out the plants and lights. I'll cop some photos then. I'll be flipping to bloom cycle in another week or so.

It's getting way too crowded so I asked a bud if he was growing and he said not at the moment. So I borrowed another 400 watt hps so I can spread out my plants and transplant a few ladies into 5 gallon pails. If he was growing I'd have asked if he couple help finish off a few of these. Two 400 w and the T5HO side lighting should finish the plants I have here. If I have a bunch of males pop then I can cut back on the lights some..

Hi Polski. I'm using a few different brands.
I used Alaskan Fish/Kelp and a Cornucopia two part grow/bloom and Dr. Thomas' Plant Energy (carbolxylic acids), molasses, cal/mag, Super Thrive (vitamins) and Advance Nutrition's Big Bud. I'm out of Ph down and have used a little cider vinegar to lower Ph to 6.0-6.5.
Well water is hard and neutral Ph.
Soil is peat moss, vermiculite, composted cow manure, garden/kitchen compost and rich forest loam. As usual, the soil was a little hot and was rough on the seedlings but now they are getting strong as the soil inoculates are working well.

the tally is in. All plants now are female.
1 Bubblegum
5 Ceril
3 Afghani Dream x BOG Medley
9 Afghani (possibly bubblegum mix)

Some of the plants are getting very stretchy in spite of the topping. Also some of the plants are showing different phenos, some are sativa dominant, almost. Of course, only one Bubblegum but the other strains each have more than one pheno. I'll try and do some photos tomorrow afternoon. :hippy:

lamps are grow lights from HTG. I am using (2) 400 watt HPS right now and will change one out to a Sunmaster MH Neutral Deluxe conversion lamp for the last four weeks.

Ceril are showing a couple of Neville's Haze phenotypes. (the original seeds were bought as "Neville's Haze" but none of them produced a sativa/haze looking plant.) These are f2 seedlings.

Yes, same guy. On this site I have the photos of each of four Neville's Haze buds on a plate (Spring 2010). That purplish pheno was really good but the gold pheno was the best I've smoked in years.
The Ceril strain I'm growing now came from (f2) seeds Neville's Haze but not Mr Nice. It looks a lot like MNS Neville's Haze, they both claw easily , no other plants in the grow claw but them. MNS NH went as long as 14+ weeks 12/12. The no name NH went 10 weeks. These are frosting up something wicked for week three.
Thank you for your thoughts.

Shovelhandle
01-27-2011, 11:15 PM
flush means so many different things to different people. To many peeps flush is 3x the medium volume, which would be 9 gallons of water to 3 gallons of soil. I never did that as far as I remember.

I will continue for this final four weeks or so with Advanced Nutrients Big Bud and soon adding Advanced Nutrients Overdrive and a little molasses and a touch of Superthrive. When a plant is about a week out I will give it it's last big drink of plain water (half gallon water into a three gallon bag) and see what it all looks like from there. :D Normal watering and feedings are 12-16 oz to 3 gallon medium. I was feeding this every 3 days then every 2 days and now just about every day. Last week I bottom fed each toi make sure the whole root system was getting wet. that is all. thank you.

Hey Shov, still shivering over there? I haven't been in for a couple of months and thought to have a read through your log... looking nice.

Interesting that you mention your haze strain suffering clawing... I started out growing sativas and found (when I started growing more indica dom strains, 20 odd years later) that my indies were always verging on half starved... yeah the difference in how much nitrogen they will tolerate is that significant.

If you're about, do give us an update... I'll be back in a fews days to check.

Much love, sara.

Shovelhandle
01-30-2011, 11:32 PM
That makes a ton of sense, Sarah Louise. Thank you. I will be more conservative with the nutes next time I grow the sativas and see what I can figure out.

I knew you were missing a bit. I tried pm to shake you from your tree. Good to see you on the forum.

I will update again the end of this week. The grow is just beginning week five. I expect these strains to go 8-10 weeks, even the Ceril Haze. :hippy:

Well I'm shook out Shov. Haven't been into many forums of late... apart from work. Not growing this season has been a real downer and the thought of not growing next season is an even bigger downer. LOL I'm learning to live with it though and beginning to enjoy seeing what other people are doing.

Damn hard not planting though, plant care was a part of my daily routine and it's been hard finding something as rewarding to fill the gap.

I hope winter is being kind to you.

Shovelhandle

I water to water to try and warm up the soil in the bags and buckets, it's been cool here. I just received AN Overdrive to add for week 6, 7 and beyond, if necessary. I warmed water to 75 degrees and hoped that the plants could use a watering/feeding of Overdrive. Basically, the cool temps slow down the plants and I was only able to lightly water in some Overdrive into the afghani crosses and the bubblegum. The Ceril's Haze and the Afghani Dream X BOG Medley X will have to dry out a little more before I water and feed Overdrive.
It's five and a half weeks into bloom the (9) afghani Xs are in 3 gallon bags and are very healthy with an even canopy. They are dropping a normal amount of fan leaves for the strain. The (2) Afghani Dream X in 3 gallon bags, are very wet and have moved to the warmest part of the grow area. One Bubblegum is doing great and seems very similar to the afghani x strain. The (5) Ceril's Haze are healthy but a little slow. They and the afghani dream have not dropped many fan leaves in the last week.
I am heating the grow area off light hours and a little less when the lights are on to keep canopy temps below 85º.

Shovelhandle

I'm at the end of week 6 and the trics on all the top buds are ripe to the way I like them. Mostly cloudy with 10-30% clear and some ambers. I plan to go ahead with my week seven watering and feeding with carbs, and Overdrive only. I'll keep an eye on all the trics on the tops and hopefully I can start to water only next time they dry up. I'm also going to remove the 400 w HPS for now.
These strains have previously gone 8-10 weeks and even 12 once. Inspite of the cool soil temps (60-65º) everything is coming to a close. The few seeded bracts I see are very new and soft and green. Any input, folks?

Love the purps. Why you ditching the 400? Canopy heat that bad? Shitty if you gotta lose that so close to the end. Or am I missing something?

Shovelhandle
02-05-2011, 08:01 PM
I don't need it. I have another 400 plus 216 watts of T5 florescent and the area is only 4' x 3'. I added a 750 w space heater to bring up the soil temps and I am returning the extra 400 I borrowed.

Purple doesn't impress me unless it's a killer purp strain. A purple pheno of most strains isn't anything special. I like the hashy or the gold tasting phenos, usually not purple.

Cabighed
02-05-2011, 09:21 PM
I just like the color purple. I guess I was thinking with the quantity you had a little more space. Looking good, even the green ones!

Would a four tray seedling heating mat be enough for the soil? Hella cheaper to run.

Shovelhandle
02-05-2011, 09:31 PM
Most folks love colorful plants and nuggets. Purple is super popular.

Well I have six pails and eleven grow bags. That's a good idea to make a mat to cover the grow floor (the floor is 6" off the ground at the moment.) I just have to finish this grow another week or two at most. I'll come up with something by next Winter.

Checked the trics and they look about ready. Mostly cloudy. I trimmed every leaf that I could get at the petiole. I had a few bugs on one or two of the Ceril plants on the dried up lower leaves so I washed them with Safer Insecticidal soap and later rinsed off all the dead little buggies and bombed the grow area while the plants were out being trimmed and washed. I watered them all and now I plan to harvest next week when the soil dries out. I'm still running a heater as the temps are friggin frigid outside and the grow area is cooler than they like. It looks like the low soil temps during the peak bud growing weeks (week 4-6) has stunted the bud growth quite a bit but the buds are nice and frosty. Some bottom buds are having a growth spurt and if they continue to do that I may harvest just the tops. One more week. :hippy:

Three Ceril and the little bubblegum clone from the main plant (bubblegum is the largest of all the plants but I didn't catch a good photo this time)

How the ladies looking? Trimmed pre dried pics would be super. hint hint. I'm in Texas for a few days, sun is nice. Wish we had this winter growing weather in the north. My ghetto connection wasn't the best, but they didn't shoot me. Medicated cookies went through airport security no problem, unfortunately I had to pack clothes so only brought eight. Kinda too far from my babies here, I wonder if they miss me.:(

I had to leave the grow a couple of years back while we went to Caribbean for 8 days. I had a house sitter that I didn't want to burden with the grow situation so I huddled them all together in a cool dark corner to sleep while we were away. They appeared none the worse for wear. If I can remember correctly they were just about ready to harvest so the cool and dark did not effect any of the bloom cycle.

Well, the trics all look like 'Ready, Steady, GO"! And they have stopped drinking pretty much. So I plan to roll off this grow. Today I took each of the plants from their container and keeping a decent root ball with a little soil I put 2-4 plants each in a 3 gallon bag by strain.
[attachment=o265938]

I shut down the heater so the air temp will probably go to 60º with lights off. The canopy will still be 80-85º lights on. These bags will now sit directly on the cold concrete (50-55º). I another day or two I'll stop the lighting cycle and leave them in the dark for a couple of days before I cut and hang.

Nice group of girls there!

How's that Bubblegum smell? Looks sweet!

I'm always on the lookout for some of the "sweeter" smellin' and tastin' strains.
Please post up your opinion on this one when ya get a taste. :)

I've got a "Big Buddha" Blue Cheese @ 5 1/2 weeks that's giving a strong "Bazooka Joe" bubblegum odor. First strain I've grown that smelled like this.

I've grown this strain of New England bubblegum for 10 years, off and on. No fruit smell or flavor. Very nice floral smell and sweet taste. One of the best.

As I closed in the grow area (I have movable Mylar reflector panels) the canopy temp went to 90º today.
As a preparation to harvest all the plants go into darkness for 48+ hours after 'dusk' this evening. Ambient temp will be 62º. :hippy:

A couple of days of drying. Shouldn't take long as the buds are pretty thin.

MMmmmmmm. Tasty. Nice long Ceril cola. Sativa's get some length. What seeded the bubblegum? Better yet-any viable seeds?! BubbleCeril would be nice.

hey Shovel, hopin i could bug u with a question - how come you put the plants in 48hrs dark before harvest? does it enhance yield, flavour, something else? thanks much

What seeded the BG? Bitch Afghani Dream hermie. It's too bad though because the AD x BOG looks like some killer bud this time. I wouldn't use any of those seed. I have some nice Bubblegum x Blueberry and some 2007 Bubblegum seeds, among the collection. I should grow some more BG seeds made as it's a great strain and the 2007 are getting lowered germination rates.

I put into darkness as a course of habit.
(1) I've read that the plants are best harvested before dawn.
(2) I've read that the dark period actually may increase resin production some little bit.

I trimmed the buds and put them into the jars. I screwed up and put the bubblegum plant in jars with the Ceril. Oops. Everything smells real nice already and was dry as hell. I put a fresh leaf in each jar to add some moisture for the cure. Lots of seed in some plants, others hardly have any. Total dry weight is 10 ounces. Not a very long bloom, less than eight weeks but the yield was greatly reduced due to the chilly soil temperature.

Nice grow, Shov. 10 zips of green is better than 10 zs of pond water. I'm sure the BG and Ceril will get along fine in a spliff. 'Bout time to get ready for our outdoor season here. I'm gonna go heavy indica heavy, some kush some aurora some hmmmmm, others. Guess I should log it on here.

It's early for Vt but if one wanted to get a bunch of plants started to pick from and then sex and clone, that would take a while. I can't start until after our vacation.
