Hello, I am wondering if I made the right decision I used to smoked bud all the time maybe a blunt a day, or some bowls, started a few months ago doing that. Quit 3 weeks ago. I wanted to be something in life and also not to have to play alot of money for college, so I joined the Military, army reserve. I did everything sworn in for 6 years. I did 6 so i can get some money for college. So that means I will not be able to smoke weed for 6 years. it was my hardest decision ive ever made, man i love getting high with my friends having big sessions, playing Xbox, PS3 while your high all that, going to miss the munchies lol. Let me ask do you think it is the best decision. My friend told me I should have waited I took my last 3 hits last night and i was higher then I ever was lol, off of some purple. It felt like it was something new to me because I havenā??t smoked in a month. So do you think it was the best decision, the next time I will get to smoke is when Iā??m 26 and I wont have to worry about getting drug tested. I am going to miss weed :(

I do not think people on a forum can answer if joining the army was the best choice. That is way to personal. I give you some props. You are going to have Adrenalin overload witch feels better than any drug (In my opinion). Most of my military friends still smoke.
Good Luck.
I am sure it will be real fun. I daydream about joining the military.

What makes you think going into the ARMY will prevent you from smoking??? The ARMY is where we got the term "shotgun"...

You will end up smoking. Maybe not at first but like I said, most of my friends in the army smoke.

I think so. You learn to work your way around it. Just wait till you make some army friends.

military drug tests go by your SS number,at least that was the deal when I was in there(Active Duty),and I know some folks who were in the Army and recently got out that had no issues with smoking. Hell your gonna be a reservist its not like you'll be doin much ;)

I was active AF Reserve for the last 7 years of my career and every drill weekend there was random urinalysis. How they pick who will test is by drawing a number out of a hat. That number is the place in the SSN. Another number is drawn and that is the number from the SSN. So if they picked a 7 first and a 1 second, everyone with a 1 in the 7th place in their SSN had to test. I went through my career without testing once on Active Duty, but I sure didn't count on it. I gave it up for 20 years to finish my career without the fear of losing it all at any time.
I've known a lot of folks who play the gambling game that they won't have to test. Some win, most lose. Most urinalysis testing uses trusted agents that have to watch you pee. So you can forget urine kits. Also you don't get a heads up, you just get tabbed and taken over to the hospital for testing. I suppose if you have very little body fat and flush before each drill, you might be ok. I wouldn't chance it, but that's just me.

Do they only drug test you when you come down to drill? That one weekend a month? or can they call you saying you need to take a drug test lol.

Just during drill and your two weeks a year (or any other time you're on active duty).
You won't get recalled just to test, however, your unit might deploy. Then you'd be recalled to go on the deployment and could possibly have to test then also. That could happen any time.

Yep.
In the event that your unit will deploy, they'll give you notice. It may not be enough time to "clean up" though. I really doubt they'd pee test you right before a deployment, but again, the chance is there.
You are not going to get a call to come in and pee test while you are not on military time ever. I've never even heard of that happening.
Some units will let you pull your 12 drill days consecutively with your 2 weeks. That's something you may want to look into.

I think you are making a smart decision joining the military. Giving up marijuana for 6 years will be worth it. Don't take any chances while you are in. It's not worth it.
When you think about it, 6 years is not much. It may seem like a long time now. After all, six years is a large portion of your life. Later it will seem like the time zoomed by, and you will have all them benefits.
For me the best benefit is the VA hospital. I never have to worry about health insurance for myself again. I could be poor as dirt (and I am), and I would still get fixed up for any health matter. With the cost of a health insurance policy now days, that counts for a hell of a lot.
Don't worry about it, not being able to smoke reefer for a while. Marijuana is not the "be all, end all". I laid off for it for over 25 years because I was working on aircraft. Now all them years have passed and I am once again able to get high. This will happen to you too. One day you will be doing something and BAM, it will hit you. Where the hell did all them years go?
Then you will kick back, being a mature man with experience of the world, and light up that bowl. While drawing in that sweet smoke, you will think about the years past and smile with satisfaction of a job well done.

Yes i realized I am not a kid no more, my life must change for the better, I can't be a pot head my whole life, got to make choices in life for the better, and your right when my term is done i will smoke again, " once a pot head, always" a pot head. I would rather be something then sit at my house getting high all day every day. 6 years seems long, but it will fly bye, well I hope :| thank you for the help man made me feel better about my decision, Iā??ve been thinking i threw my weed life away, but i threw it away to get money and live my life to the fullest.

I got a question, there any way you can change the length of you military contract?

There is always a way to do things in the military. Trouble is finding out how. Don't listen to "barracks lawyers" who don't really know what they're talking about. Next drill, ask to visit personnel and ask your question there. If you were AF Reserve, I could tell you exactly what office to seek at personnel. Army has different terminology, but whatever the personnel function is called is where the folks who can help you out are.
Word of advice. When asking how to shorten your enlistment, be careful how you act and mind your military bearing, because news always seems to have a way of finding it's way back to your First Sergeant.
