I had a bong that was shattered by an ashtray and glued it together with J-B Weld it is water proof and i hear its drinking water safe...
it takes 24 hours to dry, doesn't expand, you can break glass before the "weld" will break and it looks somewhat clean. if you can fit the glass together it wont even look that bad.(i think it would look better if i got another try)
Heres some pictures

damn that's a shame! I've seen way too many pieces go in similar ways, which is why I came up with Das Boot! (http://www.thepipesaver.com)....
how exactly did it happen?
to answer your question about using JB Weld, I've personally smoked out of pieces that were "fixed" using "food safe & heat resistant" silicone, but it seemed like the lack of air flow on the inside of the pipe never really allowed the toxic smell to go away...
Perhaps you could try running something like a fish tank air pump through the female stem of the pipe for a couple days to make sure everything dries out and all the smell is gone.... but I'd personally just chalk this one up as a loss, and switch back to dry pipes or papers until you can afford another one... And on the next one you get, you can always protect it with something like a Das Boot!

@Glugg
Thanks for the compliment! I came up with it after watching waaayyyy too many nice pipes go the way of the one in this thread. Literally, I've seen thousands of dollars of glass broken in my day for the stupidest reasons.
The best thing about Das Boot (http://www.thepipesaver.com) is that it also keeps the water cold (or hot, if you prefer) while you're smoking, as well as protects the pipe from setting it down too hard, knocking it against the side of the table (or ashtray, as in this case), and has even been tested for small drops.
The sides are extra-thick 3mm neoprene rubber, and the bottom is non-slip and extra thick 5mm neoprene rubber, for safety and stability. This is not the same cheap foam or thin neoprene that you commonly find on other types of beer coozies. Plus the outsides, and insides are covered in a soft nylon fabric so they will slip on easily and never damage your glass.
I'm probably going to make some youtube videos to show just how effective these are.

i put it all together its works just as well as it did before it broke. no smell or taste.
Das Boot is cool how much can it withstand? is it rubber or cloth?

good for you! glad it worked out. i guess my experiences with silicone weren't the same as yours with JB weld...

it can withstand quite a hit... haven't fully tested the capabilities yet, but certainly much more than bare glass... it is made from neoprene, which is basically synthetic rubber...

I hope you don't get offended at a couple suggestions,I also like to make and sell things and I'm only trying to help.
First avoid the term synthetic when dealing with pot smokers..."the same material that wetsuits are made of" would be how I'd explain neoprene to anyone that didn't know what it was.
Secondly if you could get some decorative artwork silk screened onto your product,it would increase its value, function and make it more eye catching.(fantasy, nature, humor and sci-fi art work)
Like I said ,I like your product and your selling it at a very fare price...just wanted to give my two cents on how to make it easier to sell.

Neoprene, that soft spongy stuff, sure.... But what's a wet suit? Caught out in the rain perhaps?

lmfao i dont think your really that unintelligent to not know what a wetsuit is but ill tell you anyway its the suit divers wear when they go under water or surfers wear them for surfing too its made of neoprene and is completely heat conductive and waterproof lol

Wow! Thanks for the great discussion about "Das Boot"! I really do appreciate all the suggestions.
I'll definitely try to work the wetsuit reference into my product description, if you guys think that will help get the idea across of what sort of material they're made out of.... BTW, most "Wet" suits are not entirely waterproof, hence the name "wetsuit". The ones that are completely waterproof are called "Dry suits". Those are made from even thicker, less-flexible neoprene, and they are used in VERY cold diving situations.
The artwork that is on them right now are just a couple of designs that I came up with for the first production run to help get my name out there. On the next runs, I'll likely have blank ones that can be custom screen printed or air brushed any way you'd like, as well as ones with patterned fabric backing like Hawaiian prints or camouflage.
Thanks again for the suggestions Glugg!
Also, check out eBay for even better deals on them, or let me know if you're interested in wholesale pricing.
