I must say I don't really care. Thousands of people die every day, and if I took the time to feel sad for every one of them I would lead a depressing life indeed. I never met him and he never did anything significant to improve my life; in fact as leader of the Catholics he has helped to promote a system of beliefs that states that my beliefs (that a world with so much evil could not possibly be directed by an omnipotent benevolent being of any sort) are incorrect, immoral and that I will burn for eternity for them. So to me he's just another person, no more deserving of my tears than anybody else I've never met that dies. In fact, he deserves so little of my consideration that I'm going to stop considering his death right now.

koshea
04-01-2005, 09:29 PM
so is he dead? or no?

if he is, it is a sad day because im catholic....the thing i hate most is people who bash catholics due to ignorance....

and to ermitonto's post:

he was a human being, whether he helped you, or was unassociated with you dosent mean you cant be a compassionate human being, he found faith and comfort in it, whether he is right or wrong in his faith are arrelivent, he was an old peaceful man and to be so disrespectful to anyone who has died by not even concitering them is disgusting

Like I said, there are thousands of people who die every day that I don't consider. I don't mean them any disrespect, it's just that I don't have the time to consider every "old peaceful man" on the other side of the planet that dies. If he really touched you and you feel he contributed to your life, by all means feel sad that he's not going to be around any more, but I hardly know anything about him so to be honest I'm not that bummed and would like to continue with my happy day over here in this hemisphere. Hey, I can't control my emotions.

aye....yet another very common anti-catholic comment....the catholic religion is against protection has nothing to do with forming to the new ages, or power, or anything of the sort, but catholics are pro-life, and sperm are alive, sure they are indeed just organisms but theya re alive and have the potential of becoming a human being with gods grace, its own soul, and more, after all what is the REAL reason sex even exists?

to reperduce

people wouldnt die of AIDS if they knew the person they were fucking, god forbid somone have morals eh...and you are one soul far astray if yous ay you want the pope to burn in hell, you fucking idiot he didnt make the idea to be against birth controll, the vatican did, if you wernt such an ignorant popus ass you would realize that

and sex is better without a condom anyways

and P.S. the no birth controll is virtually a dead practice such as the no pork for JEWS....only extreme catholics follow those rules, which is probally around a thousand people in the USA all togeather

Like everything else in the Roman Catholic Church there are a series of rituals to go through first.

When the Pope dies, the Cardinal Camerlengo (currently Eduardo Cardinal Martinez Somalo) must verify the death, traditionally by calling the Pope three times by his name without response. He must then authorize a death certificate and make the event public by notifying the Cardinal Vicar for the Diocese of Rome (currently Camillo Cardinal Ruini). The Camerlengo then seals the Pope's private apartments. He would also arrange for the "ring of the fisherman" and the papal seal to be broken. He then makes preparations for the Papal funeral rites, the novemdieles, the nine days of mourning.

During the interregnum, it is the Camerlengo who is responsible for the government of the Church. He must arrange the funeral and burial of the Pope. He directs the election of a new pope, assisted by three Cardinals, elected by the College of Cardinals, with three new Cardinals elected every three days.

All heads of the dicasteries of the Roman Curia are suspended from exercising their authority during the interregnum (and are expected to resign their posts immediately on the election of the new Pope). The only exceptions to this are the Cardinal Camerlengo, the Cardinal Vicar of Rome, the Major Penitentiary (William Cardinal Baum), the Cardinal Archpriest of St Peter's Basilica and the Vicar-General for Vatican City (both offices are held by Virgilio Cardinal Noe). These continue in their posts during the interregnum.

After 15-20 days of "General Congregations", sermons at their Titular Churches and mourning for the Pope after his funeral, the Cardinal Electors enter the Conclave to choose which of them will emerge as Holy Roman Pontiff.

The Cardinals must take an oath when they first enter the Conclave that they will follow the rules set down by the Pope and that they will maintain absolute secrecy about the voting and deliberations. The penalty for disclosing anything about the conclave that must be kept secret is automatic excommunication.

The Cardinals all take seats around the wall of the Sistine Chapel and take a ballot paper on which is written "Eligo in suumum pontificem" -- "I elect as supreme Pontiff...". They then write a name on it, fold it, and then proceed one by one to approach the altar, where a chalice stands with a paten on it. They hold up their ballot high to show that they have voted, then place it on the paten, and then slides it into the chalice. The votes are then counted by the Cardinal Camerlengo and his three assistants. Each assistant reads the name, reads the name aloud, writes it down on a tally sheet and then passes it to the next assistant. The third assistance runs a needle and thread through the centre of each ballot to join them all together. The ballots are then burned, as well as all notes made. If a new Pope has been elected, the papers are burned with to give white smoke. Otherwise, they give off black smoke, so that the waiting crowds, and the world, know whether their new Holy Father will soon emerge from the Sistine Chapel.

I'm not Catholic or anything, but if you went with this "no protection" thing, weren't you also going with the "no sex til marriage" thing? Therefore you'd only be fucking your wife, so no AIDS.

Also, the Pope told Bush to get out of Iraq, so he gets big ups from me.

How do you know why sex exists? Even if you didn't wear a condom, only one sperm would survive the rest all die. Its a sperm, you have over a billion of them in your testicles, not exactly a shortage. Why would you value the life of a sperm over the life of a human being? I'm going have sex with my girlfriend while wearing a condom just to piss you off, call me a mass murderer :D.

If you think people are getting AIDS because of the degradation of morality then you need a serious reality check. Morality flew out the window long before AIDS came along, promiscous sex isn't the only reason people get AIDS. I wish there was a different disease going around, one that affected ignorant morons. Call it ARDS, Anal Retentive Dipshit Syndrome.

I don't know much about the pope, and I know a little about the Catholic religion. I do know however that one of the great Henry kings made it up because according to the religion they followed they we're not allowed to have more than one wife, this pissed one of them off so he made his own 'branch' of it. There are several 'branches' of this religion; None of which I follow. I have no doubt that the pope was a good man but he did not do anything of any real significance for me. Therefore he's another good old man dead and gone. Like Ermintonto said, 'hundreds of people die everyday'. People die, thats the way it is, just hope he's in "heavan".

Just to address the "what did he do?" question, don't forget that he was a Polish clergyman at a time when Poland was a communist country under the influence of the former U.S.S.R. It was risky to speak out against the oppression there, and speak he did. Poland and East Germany were among the first places the monolithic Soviet Union started to fall apart, and we should remember that religious freedom was one of the main rallying points, and that John Paul was right there in the middle of the controversy, when he was a bishop.

He was critical of all totalitarian activities, including our own (U.S.A.) at times. As the spokesman and titular head of the church, he was a representative of millions of people who believe in positive values and morality. However misguided at times, religious values are among the few organized systems opposed to the sort of things we regard as "evil"; totaliarianism, slavery, genocide, etc. Sort the conscience of the race. I think he did a good job in that respect. In some ways a chruch or faith is a nation, and he was a good "head of state".

How about a Jewish Pope this time, what do you think? (rim shot).

What you're talking about is Henry VIII (28 June 1491â??28 January 1547) and his breakaway from Rome to start the Church of England because he wanted a divorce from his wife Catharine of Aragon (Catharine had been pregnant about 7 times but only one child survived, a girl but no male heir).

This Anglican Church had the king as it's head (act of supremacist) the king got to decide whether the church was catholic or protestant. The king dictated and it was protestant.
