Voles!!!

Well, the little suckers have killed two out of five girls and this time of year it REALLY hurts! :eek:

I hate to kill anything but they have to go. :blueknife: I read that Juicy Fruit gum would do the trick but no luck. :beatdeadhorse:

Any help would be very much appreciated. I have animals, dogs, cats so no hard core poison... but anything else... I'm about ready to spend the night outside with a flashlight and a .22!! :gunfighter2: :jointsmile:

Surround plants with regular, spring loaded, mouse traps baited with peanut or almond butter... keep surface mulch fine so they don't have a nice warm hiding place above ground and plant within a moat of gravel.

Alternatively, keep ganja in containers with a couple of mouse traps and sit them in an area planted out with day lilies, irises or peonies.

Lastly, if you have cats and still have voles, I think you may be over feeding your cats.

Hope you can keep them of your remaining plants.

Sara, thank you so much for your help! :thumbsup: I have a couple of mouse traps and will set them this evening. Yes our cats are not lacking in the food department :D but in there defense we have 6 acres for them to cover... they do come up with some big rodents and always bring the dead and usually decapitated bodies to the porch for us to see! :jointsmile:

No worries, have a scout around your plants...

If you can see burrow holes fill them in and clear any thick mulch. If you can see their runways through the grass, these are also good places to lay a few traps.

try a mole repeller - they have gizmos at your lowes or home depot that you stick into the ground and it omits a sound every 22 seconds that sounds like an an animal in distress - the sound will cover a 15 feet radius underground - these things have kept small mammals away from my garden- they cost about $15 bucks
